Right to Information Act The Right to Information Act was passed by the Indian Parliament on 15th June 2005 and came into force on 12th October, the same year.

The intention of the act is to enable and empower ordinary citizens of the country to access the information of the governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Many democratic countries have empowered their citizens with this right to access restricted information and bring it to the public forum much before India.

Sweden became the first country to do so by enacting the “Freedom of the Press Act” in the year 1766, at a time when the rest of the world was dominated by the likes of monarchy and colonies. This legislation of Sweden marked the beginning of a new era in the world.

The whole of humanity started to rise against different monarchies and dictatorships in the subsequent centuries.

The values and thoughts of democracy and patriotism thronged amongst the people. India was not an exception either.

The barracks and buildings of the British Empire in India were razed down by efforts of the freedom fighters.

But since then, the country has witnessed more of corruption and scams than development.

So far, the Right to Information Act has had a firm hand in curbing the corruption and has aided numerous social workers, the brave warriors who have been fighting the corrupt people and systems of the country.
