O problema de Esmeralda foi sempre o mesmo: a tradução para Eric e outros visitantes do Canadá do que falavam, o que na narrativa deste livro a autora se queixa por todo o lado que visitavam, e entre todos com quem conviviam. Só lhe ficava ou fica bem. Leio agora que a autora enviava várias caixas de livros portugueses para o Canadá, mas que ler aí na nossa língua também comum era-lhe mais difícil do que lê-los em Portugal, na sua terra natal, na terra onde tinham sido escritos ou pensados. Não se preocupe, cara autora, a portugalidade pode e vai ser sempre continuada em qualquer língua. Os seus filhos são a prova do que acabo de escrever. Não creio que eles passem toda a vida sem se lembrarem da sua rica herança bi-nacional. Quando, como foi sempre o seu caso, ouvirem Amália ou Carlos do Carmo, Lisboa e Portugal no seu todo, no continente ou a meio mar nas ilhas, vão surgir continuamente na sua mente e na alma.
