Dear Community Member, Portland has an incredible system of parks, trails and open spaces, as well as a great network of community centers and pools throughout

the city. All told, we have 67 parks, 30 playgrounds, over 40 miles of walking trails, 8 miles of multi-use bike paths, 11 community gardens, 20,000 street trees, dozens of basketball, tennis, pickleball courts, along with over 40 athletic fields, along with 4 Community Centers and 3 public swimming pools. Our park system is full of interesting history, including the fact that Portland’s original parks plan was laid out by the world-renowned Olmsted firm that also designed the Emerald Necklace in Boston and Central Park in New York. But parks and community centers on their own only go so far to improve the quality of life for a community. The programs, sports leagues, concerts, and events that take place in our parks and facilities are what bring them to life and make them attractive and accessible to all members of the community. This Recreation Program Guide details many of those programs that will bring our parks and community spaces to life this year. There is something for everyone in here—from youth recreation programming, to our very popular Before and After School program, to our youth Basketball League, to our Senior 62+ adult program and trips, to Therapeutic Recreation programs and activities for those with disabilities and special needs—our staff have been working hard to respond to the needs of the community and offer programs that will benefit all Portlanders. We hope you take a look, sign up, and get involved in your community!

Sincerely, Ethan Hipple

Riverside Riverside Golf Course

158 Riverside Street, 797-3524, riversidegolfcourseme.com Located on the outskirts of Portland, Riverside Golf Course offers three courses. The 18-hole north course, the 9-hole south course, and 3-hole practice facility. The municipality-owned golf course provides a challenging but forgiving layout that gives an experienced golfer or beginner golfer an enjoyable round on either course. Winter Recreation

Snowshoeing

Riverside Golf Course (North), built in 1932, is a 30-hole facility located on 200 acres on the outskirts of Portland. During the off season, Riverside provides a great winter layout for crosscountry ski trails, two outdoor ice skating rinks, snowshoeing, fat tire biking and many hills for sledding. Riverside is a great destination for a leisurely workout or outdoor activities with the whole family.

Snowshoeing is available throughout the golf course and is open to the public seven days a week, 24 hours a day. The groomed skate trails are used to make your experience more enjoyable. We ask that you stay off the groomed classic tracks and out of roped off areas.

Skiing

Sledding is available throughout the golf course and open to the public seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Please stay out of roped off areas.

Riverside Golf Course grooms cross-country ski trails throughout our three golf courses. For easy access to our trails there are two starting points: one at the Riverside South Course clubhouse, and one at the Riverside North Course located by the maintenance building at the end of the parking lot. Our trail measures about 6k, groomed for both classic and skate skiing with great scenery and wildlife to see. Whether it’s for the experienced or beginner skier, the trail are great for both. The trails are open to the public seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Please stay out of roped off areas.

Ice Rink Riverside offers two outdoor ice rinks with fresh ice made in the morning as needed for an enjoyable experience. The ice rinks are located on the North Course and are accessible using the access road by the maintenance building at the end of the parking lot. One of the rinks is lit nightly to accommodate skating at night. The ice rinks are open to the public seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
