Adult Active Programs Tennis in the Parks: Practices and Play For adult players who have completed at least one session of Tennis in the Parks or a similar introductory program and are now ready to practice, improve their game and have FUN! This program is run by a USTAapproved coach, players will receive instruction and do rotating match play to gain experience. Players should bring their own racket, the coach will provide tennis balls.

Tai Chi Chih (TCC) Join us for a Chi-driven practice of just 19 moves and one pose, connecting mind, body, and soul in a course that is more easily learned than many traditional, longform styles. TCC is meditative while feeding the need to move. With proven health benefits and no special equipment required, this practice goes anywhere you do, and it’s a perfect modality for cultivating “calm in the midst of chaos”.

62+ Club Join the Coolest Club in the City!

The 62+ Program is an activity group where seniors can get together and socialize while enjoying a variety of different activities, offered more than 15 times per month, year-round!

This program is a great way to explore the area and make new friends while staying active.

Activities include local fairs, theater trips, concerts, museum visits, shopping trips, bowling, local walking trails, themed luncheons, guest speakers, holiday parties, arts and crafts, boat rides, and much more. Participants are able to drive to most of our activities or we can pick up residents right up at home with one of our mini buses. Registrations for activities take place bimonthly.

Tai Chi (62+) Class #1: Entry Level Class: Sun Style for functional movement, joint mobility and fall prevention. Nurture your mind, body, and spirit in this gentle, accessible class. Using the Sun Style, participants will practice stationary and flowing movements designed to improve posture, balance, and mobility. This class is welcoming to both beginners starting their practice and returning students looking to maintain their progress.

Participants will learn range safety, proper shooting mechanics, and foundational archery skills while also developing focus, confidence, and physical coordination. Vacation Camps Youth Futsal: February Vacation Camp NEW! Stay active during February Break with our Youth Futsal Camp! Participants will develop their skills through fun drills, small-sided games, and skillbuilding activities in a supportive environment. Futsal's fast-paced format helps players improve ball control, passing, decision-making, and overall confidence on the ball. Camp is divided by grade level, with a morning session for Grades 1-2 and an afternoon session for Grades 3-4. Youth Sports Jr Celtics Academy Youth Basketball Leagues Portland Parks, Recreation, and Facilities has partnered with the Jr. Celtics Academy to create a new, exciting, engaging basketball program for Portland's youth.

With a strong focus on youth development, Jr.Celtics Academy leagues are built on evidence based data and frameworks that allow a young person to grow into their best self. Through a detailed curriculum, players and coaches will have structured content for individual and team skill development, pre and post game preparation and reflection, practice and game play.

Youth Sports Little Cleats NEW! Little Cleats introduces young children to soccer through imaginative games, exciting activities, and age-appropriate skill development. Participants will practice basic soccer skills such as dribbling, kicking, and ball control while building coordination, balance, confidence, and social skills. Each class uses creative themes and engaging activities to keep children moving, learning, and having fun in a positive environment. Players will receive a shirt!

Fun Chefs Baking 101 NEW! Come spend your Monday afternoons baking delicious treats. Each week, we will learn what it takes to be a great baker. We will learn how to measure, explore the science of baking, work with various types of doughs and batters, and share decorating tips and tricks. We will also bake holiday favorites. Youth Programs Reiche Playgroup NEW! Portland Public Health Nurses offer a free, drop-in playgroup for children on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month. Children can play with age appropriate toys on our colorful mats while parents and caregivers socialize or seek guidance from our nurses. Our nurses are also Certified Lactation Counselors and can provide feeding support and weigh your baby. They can also answer questions about infant care and child development. Please note that this is not a childcare service; parents and caregivers are expected to stay.

Nature & Conservation Programs Critter Crawls: September NEW! Critter Crawls Nature Walks are a way for young children and their grownups to learn in nature. During a walk, children can borrow a small backpack full of tools for exploring. Julia and Angela will guide a small group through a series of nature-based activities - like scavenger hunts, fairy house building, or a story and craft. Be sure to come prepared with a sense of curiosity, wonder, and a supervising adult!

Troubh Ice Arena (TIA) is an indoor ADA compliant skating facility equipped with a National Hockey League (NHL) regulation-size ice surface, five locker rooms, and seating for over 650 spectators.

Programs at the arena run year-round and provide skating opportunities for all to enjoy at one of Portland's finest recreation facilities. We are proud to offer public skating, skating and hockey skills group lessons, freestyle ice, adult and youth hockey programs, high school hockey, and curling programs. Riverside Golf Course This Is Golf As It Was Meant To Be Played The popular and traditional public golf facility first opened in 1932. The facility features an 18-hole course, a 9-hole course and a 3-hole practice course.

The classic layout, rolling hills and tree-line fairways are bordered by the Presumpscot River.

Riverside Golf Course is a 30 hole facility located on 200 acres on the outskirts of Portland. Pool Rules Children under the age of 12 may not be unaccompanied at the pool. A parent or emergency contact will be notified to pick up any child left unattended.

Minors (ages 17 and under) are required to be included by a parent/guardian in the MyRec household account to gain entry to the pool. Minors will not be allowed entry if they are not registered in MyRec. Ages 7 and under (or under 4’ tall): Must be within arm’s reach of a supervising individual age 15+ at all times, unless they pass the deep water test.

Ages 11 and under: require the direct supervision of an individual age 15+ at all times.

Food and drink, with the the exception of water, are prohibited on deck.

Glass and ceramic are strictly prohibited anywhere in the facility.

Alcoholic beverages, tobacco or other illicit substances are strictly prohibited.

Clean and appropriate swimwear must be worn. Thong bikinis, transparent clothing, nonswimwear, and underwear are not permitted.

A thorough cleansing shower is required before entering the pool. Showers are available in the locker rooms.

Flotation devices (life jackets, water wings, etc.), toys, snorkels, and goggles with nose-pieces that enclose the nose are prohibited.

Animals, with the exception of service animals, are not permitted. Service animals are not permitted in the pool per State of Maine health code, but can be on the pool deck.

Any individual with an infectious or communicable disease, open wound, or rash is prohibited from using the pool.

Adapted Aquatics Designed for individuals with a qualified disability, the Adapted Aquatics program offers swimming skills development, personal safety training, self-help opportunities, social interaction, generalization of skills and most of all - fun!

If a participant is new to the Adapted Aquatics Program, there are required forms to be completed prior to registration. Please contact Jane O’Conor at joconor@portlandmaine.gov

Each student swimmer has the opportunity to improve their skills with the expectation to tolerate and swim 30 minutes in the water.

Our staff are trained in Adapted Aquatics and certified in Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED and First Aid. All swimming instructional programs are guarded by a certified lifeguard.

Policies & Procedures CANCELLATION POLICY

REGISTRATION

A full refund will be given for withdrawal from a program two weeks before the start date. An 80% refund will be given for withdrawal from a program one week before the start date. A 70% refund will be made for withdrawal from a program after the first week or class, but prior to the second week or class. No refunds will be given after the second week or class of a program start date unless accompanied by a written medical note.

If the minimum requirement is not reached after the registration deadline, the program will be canceled, and you will be notified. If we are required to cancel a class or program, either a program credit or a full refund will be granted. Individual programs may be canceled or postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions. We reserve the right to postpone, reschedule, or cancel programs, change locations, substitute staff, or make other changes as necessary. Childcare is not provided during adult programs. An individual must meet the age requirements of the program by the start date of the program. Register early, as programs have a minimum and maximum enrollment requirement.

Portland residents have priority in all classes and activities up to three weeks before the start of the program. Proof of residency is required when registering for programs. Residency priority means that the individual resides in Portland, Maine. Those individuals owning property in Portland and not living here do not qualify for residency status when registering for programs. We require an additional non-resident fee for programs, unless otherwise specified. Not all programs are eligible for non-residents.

PARTICIPATION OF INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES The City of Portland Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Department (the Department) is committed to providing interested participants equal opportunities in and access to its recreation programs. The Department, as part of its mission, provides inclusive programming in an open and welcoming atmosphere. Qualified individuals with a physical or mental disability are encouraged to request reasonable accommodations to allow them to participate in public programs and services provided by the Department. FEE WAIVERS The City of Portland provides a fee waiver program.

Limited fee waivers are available for Portland residents who have applied and qualified for the fee waiver program. All requests will be held in confidence and are considered on a household and yearly income basis.

Proof of residency is required when applying for fee waivers. Fee waivers are granted on a first-come, firstserved basis, per program. When a program is full, we maintain waiting lists in the event that a space opens.

There is no fee to be added to our waiting list. If a space does become available, fees would be collected at that time. Fee waivers only apply to certain youth programs run by the Recreation Department.

NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY Portland Recreation provides its services, programs, and activities to all children and families without regard to race or color, sex, physical or mental disability, religion, ancestry, or national origin.
