Thank you for the trust you have placed in me by electing me Trustee to the Village we all love! I am humbled by your support and encouragement. Your vote demonstrates that you trust me to be your voice, and I cannot thank you enough for that trust. I would be remiss if I didn't thank Trustee Snaden for her hard work and dedication to Port Jefferson, she will be missed! I look forward to working with Mayor Sheprow the Board of Trustees and with all the residents of our village for a be er Port Jefferson. I am but a cog in a wheel, I will not be able to accomplish anything alone, but if we all work together, I know we will be able to accomplish greatness!

Since I was installed on July 4th , I have hit the ground running on some various projects. I was appointed Liaison to the Department of Public Works, Parks, Port Jefferson Harbor Education & Arts Conservancy (aka The Conservancy) and the newly established Liaison to Tax and Assessment Departments.

I have given our new Village A orney a proposed Code Change that will hold the Village harmless of for any loss of Village property tax revenue in the event an applicant obtains tax relief from the IDA or any other agency that has tax relief authority.

In late Winter the previous administration passed a code change allowing traffic to make a le turn on to Perry Street when approaching from the north, unfortunately a sign prohibiting that turn was not removed. DPW has removed that sign and pole.

As I promised, I will be establishing time to informally meet with residents to discuss concerns or difficulties that may be having with the Village. These “Saturday Sit-Downs with Bob” will take place every month at the Village Center Living Room on the Second Floor from 9:30 to 11:00. The first one is scheduled for September 9. Please feel free to visit and discuss any item you may have. I may not have an answer for you, but I promise to get back to you as soon as I can.

I have reached out to establish a “Village Volunteer Portal” on the Village Website that will enable residents the ability to see what volunteer options are available; sign up to volunteer for a specific commi ee and/or post their qualifications for future opportunities.

When I was walking in different neighborhoods the residents of Laurita Gates complained about the sight issue when exiting on to North Country Road. DPW has removed some of the sight obstacles and will keep an “eye” on it to correct any issues in the future.

The conservancy had a very successful Port Paws Dog Festival July 15 & 16. Unfortunately, the 16th was rained out. But July 15 was very successful – we had over 120 dogs participate and had a record turnout of people passing through the gate.

UPCOMING EVENTS TO KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR:

PORT PALOOZA – JULY 29

VILLAGE GOLF OUTING – AUGUST 17

MUSTANG SHOW – SEPTEMBER 17

PORT JEFFERSON HILL CLIMB – SEPTEMBER 23

Make sure to check out the Village Website, for the Summer Concert Schedule, Art Exhibits and Summer Farmers Market at the Village Center.

I look forward to seeing everyone enjoying the beautiful summer weather walking, shopping and dining in our lovely and charming Village.
