Examples include however are not limited to: Autism, ADHD, FASD, physical disabilities, developmental disabilities, mental health issues, behavioural issues, and language barriers. It is important to remember our program leaders are responsible for the entire group and are not able to focus extended periods of time on any one participant. Therefore it is important to consider the following when choosing a program for a participant: • Our Children Services day camps are fast paced, active programs with many transitions and can be very noisy at times. • All of our recreation day camps consist of a high percentage of active games, walks and often endure all types of weather when out in the community and can often be in busy public settings. • If you are unsure if a program is the right fit, please contact the Program Supervisor to find out more. • To assist participants who require additional support we offer our LEISURE BUDDY PROGRAM. Our Buddies are trained volunteers who trained to help participants stay on task, be involved, make positive social connections and build strong community ties. • Our Leisure Buddies do not provide any personal care including changing, toileting, feeding or administering medications.

2

If appropriate support cannot be found, the participant will be withdrawn or transferred to a more appropriate program. Adapted Aquatic Opportunities TIDAL WAVE AQUATICS

Tidal Wave Aquatics is an exciting and unique program offered by Kidsfirst Physio. While the positive impact of physical exercise in the buoyancy and resistance of water is well documented, we have added an extra plus to our program. Under the personal supervision of Brenda Horton, B.S.R. P.T. (reg), MCPA, carefully trained youth assistants who work directly with the children in the water offer one-on-one ratio of assistance to each child. Each specifically prescribed pool therapy program is developed and maintained by Brenda, yet presented with the unsurpassable enthusiasm and energy of the youth. The benefits of this combination to those involved in our pool program are unmistakable. The unique socialization atmosphere provided develops a bond that makes the “therapy” even more fun, appealing, and valuable to the children.

HYDROTHERAPY CLASSES

Port Coquitlam Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic offers advanced physiotherapy for the whole family from chronic pain and post-surgery to sports, auto and work-related injuries. APRIL 1- MAY 2 CLAIRE SARFELD Claire Sarfeld is an artist living and working in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia. Sarfeld grew up in small town southern Ontario, and moved out to B.C. after completing her degree in Fine Arts; Drawing and Painting from OCAD University in Toronto. The primary source of inspiration for Sarfeld’s work has been an exploration of her travels between Canada and the States and the affective experience of camping and exploring nature. This, combined with her time spent living in Toronto has developed her characteristic style that merges influences of the city and nature. Borrowing aspects of both her traditional training and the more intuitive expressions of abstract style Sarfeld manipulates colours and textures inspired by her travels in nature, and the geometric lines of the city – her focus has been creating a balance of order and chaos.

MAY 4- 30 MINDFULNESS IN MAY – YOUTH ART EXHIBIT

JUNE 1- JULY 31 P. THOMAS WOOD Psychology and visual art share several areas of interest, one of which is visual perception. Within this field, the investigation of abstraction explores the concept of Gestalt. Art is a visual language, an ideal vehicle for encompassing these reference points, while exhibiting similar concepts in pattern, colour, repetition, abstraction and mathematics. P. Thomas Wood is fascinated by colour and the architecture of paint. Wood’s investigation of the “Opstraction” series (optical abstraction) encompasses pattern, colour, repetition and mathematics. The grid system employed to exhibit these ideas is the back drop for rotating patterns and exploring colour combinations within the mathematical confines of the grid. His “Cubestraction” series uses a Dada starting point of torn pieces of paper randomly dropped onto a gesso wet canvas as a compositional starting point, then it is claimed as a colour theory expression with patterns employed for visual continuity.
