Be a Part of the May Days Parade

Businesses and organizations are invited to apply to join our 2026 May Day Parade! As one of the longest-running community parades in the Lower Mainland, the May Day Parade is a cherished tradition in downtown Port Coquitlam. In 2025, the parade featured over 90 participants, lasted 1.5 hours, and attracted 22,000 spectators from across the region.

Applications are open until April 14. Apply at portcoquitlam.ca/maydayparade.

Register for the May Days Kids’ Bike Race

Get your helmets ready for one of May Days’ most popular family events. The May Days Kids’ Bike Race gives children the chance to ride a fun, non-competitive course in downtown Port Coquitlam while being cheered on by family, friends, and spectators.

This well-loved event is a great way for young riders to be part of the festival and enjoy the excitement of May Days. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged. Registration opens April 1.

Building Port Coquitlam’s Future

Gates Park Enhancements

Stay tuned for the enhanced space to open this summer. Learn more at portcoquitlam.ca/soccerhub.

Multisport Facility

A new multisport facility is coming to Port Coquitlam, bringing exciting new opportunities for athletes, families, and the community. This major investment will help meet growing demand for indoor recreation space and support year-round sport, training, and active living for residents of all ages.

Pump Station Upgrades

Exciting progress is being made on the Maple Creek Drainage Pump Station project. Once complete, the upgraded station will help improve flood protection for the community by increasing pumping capacity, while also supporting safe fish passage and habitat conditions for migrating salmon. Work is well underway, with environmental monitoring and mitigation measures in place throughout construction.

Seasonal City Services & Reminders

Watermain Flushing

The City’s annual watermain flushing program started in February. This 12-week program is essential for maintaining the City’s water supply system and ensures the continued delivery of safe and reliable drinking water to residents and businesses.

• Flushing is a process that rapidly moves water through the piping system using water velocity to scour out materials that accumulate in the City’s pipes.

• During flushing, residents and businesses may experience some discolouration of water and intermittent drops in water pressure. It’s temporary and not a health concern.

• Clear the water by running an indoor cold water tap for 20-30 minutes after the flushing period. Avoid doing laundry and using hot water if your water is affected.

• Flushing generally takes place between 7am and 5pm, Monday through Friday (some exceptions may apply).

Weekly updates on which parts of the overall watermain flushing zone are being flushed will be posted on the City’s website at portcoquitlam.ca/watermain.

REMINDER: Utility Bills Due March 31, 2026

Utility bills are due March 31, 2026. Bills are mailed out each year by the end of February. Please note solid waste fees are billed on your Annual Property Tax Notice.

Late payment penalties

Property owners are responsible for making the payment by the due date regardless of whether or not they received a bill, problems with postal service, inclement weather or other circumstances.

• A 5% penalty will be added to 2026 current utility levies outstanding after March 31, 2026

• A further 5% penalty will be applied after June 1, 2026

For more information about utility bills visit: portcoquitlam.ca/utilities.

Be Bear Aware and Safe – Secure Waste and Attractants

Residents and businesses can help reduce bear conflict and avoid a $500 fine by properly securing garbage and food scraps.

• SECURE garbage and food scraps in either a wildlife-resistant enclosure (e.g. garage or shed) or keep carts upright using the City’s wildlife-resistant cart lock.

• SET OUT carts between 5:30-7:30 am on collection day and re-secure carts by 7pm.

Properties without secure storage space for carts are required to use a City cart lock, or certified alternative, at all times except on collection day. Instructions for proper lock use are available at portcoquitlam.ca/lockitright.
