Nature is never far away An extensive trail network encircles and criss-crosses Port Coquitlam, providing easy access to nature from anywhere in the community. You don’t have to leave Port Coquitlam to get away from it all.

Accessible and central Located in the heart of Metro Vancouver, Port Coquitlam is easily accessed via Lougheed Highway, Highway 1, the Pitt River Bridge and Port Mann Bridge. City initiatives such as the Coast Meridian Overpass, new roads in the Dominion Triangle and the trail network have also made it easy to get around the community.

Our spirit Port Coquitlam’s tradition of community spirit and pride are unique in an urban setting. The City’s special brand of PoCo Pride is evident in the attendance at community festivals and the strong culture of volunteerism. Check out our many civic events on page 8.

Hometown hero For many who live or were born in Port Coquitlam, it’s a source of pride and inspiration to share a hometown with national treasure Terry Fox. Hundreds of residents and visitors attend the Terry Fox Hometown Run each September to honour the enduring legacy of this Canadian hero.

Family-friendly Lots of activities and services are available for children and youth, including family events, after-school programs, youth centres, a skate park and a bike skills park, a wide variety of sports programs, and excellent schools and daycares.

Affordable living Housing and property is among the most aordable in the region on the north side of the Fraser River, and City property taxes and levies are below average in Metro Vancouver.

Historic downtown Port Coquitlam’s authentic downtown has a unique historical character and is anchored by City Hall, which was built in 1914. See page 7 for more information about the downtown.

Exciting growth Growth in the up-and-coming Dominion Triangle area is bringing hundreds of new townhomes and apartments, shopping, services and employment opportunities to east Port Coquitlam. New businesses and development are also being seen in other areas of the City.

spend a day in Port Coquitlam

Hit the trails Cycle or walk the 25-km Traboulay PoCo Trail to get back to nature and link to amenities such as the Gates Park sports fields, the outdoor gym, Lions Park and Hyde Creek Recreation Centre. City trails also provide access to nearby recreation spots such as Colony Farm Regional Park. Check out the map on page 10.

Check out our recreation facilities Hyde Creek Recreation Centre is a completely renovated aquatics complex with a lap pool, leisure pool, river run, climbing wall, waterslide, whirlpool, steam room and more. Other features include racquetball and squash courts, a full service weight and fitness room, an aerobics studio, a youth centre and more.

Explore our parks Port Coquitlam has numerous parks to explore.

Port Coquitlam is also home to Colony Farm Regional Park, a bird-watcher’s delight.

Head downtown Grab a latte and stroll through Port Coquitlam’s charming and walkable downtown, with its unique shops, gardens for relaxing and people-watching, the historic City Hall, and dining and entertainment options.

Downtown is also home to the Leigh Square Community Arts Village, where you can catch a free outdoor concert, visit the Farmers Market, peruse an art exhibit, or drop by the Heritage Centre. You can get downtown by road, trails or transit.

The City provides a range of volunteer opportunities, including recreation programs, emergency preparedness, citizen advisors to City Council, and various boards and task forces.

Volunteering is a great way to share your talents, learn a skill, meet people and give back to the community.

Business licences Do you have a licence?

All businesses must have a valid business licence to operate in Port Coquitlam, including temporary, non-resident and home-based businesses.

The Wipe Out Graffiti program provides tools, techniques and discounts on paint and supplies to help you keep your business graffiti-free.

Licences are valid for one calendar year and are renewed each January 1. Fees vary based on business type.

Living green Sort waste properly to avoid rising disposal fees Sorting your waste properly is good for the environment as well as your pocketbook. The City closely monitors the contents of waste carts to prevent major spikes in disposal costs caused by improperly sorted waste. These costs are eventually passed on to Port Coquitlam taxpayers.
