Poogan’s Porch

72 Queen Street, Charleston, SC 29401

Poogan’s Porch was originally a spacious, commodious home, erected in 1891. By 1976, the character of the neighborhood had changed suitably to allow for the conversion of the house into a restaurant. The last residential owners sold their home and moved away.

A little dog stayed behind. As far as he was concerned, the porch at 72 Queen Street was his. He had been a neighborhood fixture for years, graciously accepting table scraps and back scratches from every family on the block. He was no purebred fluffy puppy; he was a good ol’, down-home Southern porch dog. His name was Poogan. Poogan became the guardian of the fledgling restaurant. From his perch on the front porch, he presided over the renovation process, and when we opened our doors for business, he greeted our first guests warmly. The restaurant family cherished him. He became an institution. Poogan died a natural death in 1979. Some guests who dine with us say they can still feel a gentle brush against their legs just as their meals arrive, as if Poogan is still here, making his rounds, ever the gracious host. This building is his monument. We still miss him.

Our Favorite Nearby Hotels The Mills House (50 feet) The Palmetto (0.4 miles) The Ryder Hotel (0.4 miles)

Our Favorite Nearby Attractions Rainbow Row (0.5 miles) Charleston City Market (0.3 miles) Joe Riley Waterfront Park (0.4 miles) White Point Garden (0.6 miles)

Our Favorite Nearby Parking Spots We recommend the Charleston County Public Parking Garage at 85 Queen Street. It’s covered, multi-level, affordable, and just a short walk from the restaurant. There is also a privately owned lot next door, but it is not affiliated with Poogan’s Porch.

FAQs Food & Beverage Can your culinary team accommodate allergies or special dietary requests?

We're all about catering to your needs, whether it's allergies, dietary restrictions, or plant-based preferences like vegan and vegetarian options. Just give us plenty of notice, and we’ll make sure everyone can enjoy their meal worry-free! For steak and salmon, we'll serve them medium unless discussed otherwise.

Can I bring in a cake? Do you provide cake-cutting services?

Count us in! Should you choose to bring in your own cake, we can take care of cutting it for you. There's a small fee of $3 per guest for this service.

Do I have to source third-party vendors for food & beverage service at my event?

We’ve been mastering the art of Southern cuisine since 1976, so you could say we're experts in the field. We're the exclusive providers of food and drinks – no outside catering is needed! Our menus are customizable, and we're here to collaborate with you every step of the way.

When do I need to provide my menu selections and bar details? What about the guest list?

Your guaranteed guest count, final menu selections, and bar details are due 14 days before your event. Because food costs can change with the seasons, menu prices and selections may vary, but we’ll confirm all details with you before your selections are due. For plated meals, hosts will select the main courses presented on a limited event menu. During the event, guests will order their selections for each course tableside. We’re happy to provide printed menus for your event. If you’d prefer to create or provide your own, you’re welcome to do so.

Do you provide bar service?

The choice is yours! We offer a variety of options for bar service for your guests: • Add a beverage package per adult 21+ • Offer a full bar, charged on consumption • Offer beer and wine only, charged on consumption • Offer limited drink tickets • No alcohol service offered to guests We handle the pouring, but don't worry, you're in good hands with our talented bartenders! As the party winds down, we'll give your guests a friendly heads-up with a "Last Call" 15 minutes before we wrap up the bar service. We kindly ask that no outside alcohol joins the party.

Do you provide any menu tastings prior to our menu selections due date?

While we do not provide any complimentary menus tastings for events being hosted at Poogan’s Porch, you’re always welcome to join us for a meal to get a sampling of the flavors and dishes you can expect. We highly recommend making a reservation at poogansporch.com/reservations.

What happens if I don’t reach the food & beverage minimum?

Our food and beverage minimum is the minimum amount required for the private space. If that amount is not reached during the event, the difference will be added to the final bill as an unmet minimum.

FAQS FAQs Venue & Logistics Can I bring in my own decorations? If so, are there any limitations to what I can bring?

You're welcome to bring in decorations! Please avoid decorations that need nails, staples, or permanent adhesion. Candles with real flames need to be contained – we suggest hurricane glass or votives. As much as we love a bit of sparkle, confetti and glitter aren't allowed, but don’t worry, we'll still make sure your event shines.

How much time do I have for setup and breakdown? Can I add on additional hours?

You'll have 30 minutes of setup time before your event begins, giving you plenty of time to add those special touches. We've also set aside 30 minutes for breakdown afterward, so you can wrap up the celebration stressfree. Need a little extra time to set the stage or say goodbye to your guests? Please inquire. Additional hours may be available at a rate of $250 per hour, depending on restaurant capacity.

Are you handicap accessible?

We host events in our second-floor dining rooms, accessible by stairs only. If anyone in your group has special requirements, please consult with your Sales Manager.

What about music? Can I bring in musicians, bands, or a DJ?

If you are hosting an event with specific audio/visual needs, please contact your Sales Manager prior to your event for confirmation and recommendations.

Are you dog-friendly?

While we love our four-legged friends, dogs are only permitted in our outdoor dining spaces

Additional questions? Your sales manager will happily assist.
