2026 COMMUNITY EVENTS
TOGETHER, WE MAKE SCIENCE FOR OUR COAST POSSIBLE
Pontchartrain Conservancy hosts community events that range from hurricane preparation & volunteer cleanups to film screenings & special events at the holidays. These events not only educate the community but provide a fun way to bring locals together in service and celebration. Local and regional businesses can gain tremendous exposure during these events through sponsorship. It's also a great way for companies to build teamwork by volunteering as part of a sponsorship package.
We cannot protect our region alone. That is why we are compelled to leverage a more diverse set of collaborators and grow our base of support. And, why our priority is to drive stewardship, so that everyone understands why their role is crucial in protecting our waterways, our coast, and our nation.
Our Board, staff and supporters worked together to save our lake; now we must work together to maintain the basin's vibrancy while saving our coast. Thank you, Kristi Trail Executive Director Pontchartrain Conservancy is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization who’s mission is to drive environmental sustainability and stewardship through scientific research, education, and advocacy.

STORM AWARE & PREPARE
Cleanup and preparedness event to protect and inform our community ahead of storm season
STORM AWARE & PREPARE May 30, 2026
EVENT PURPOSE: Our goal is to help prepare the public for the 2026 storm season, while educating our community about the connection between coastal restoration and reduction of storm risk. The event will feature giveaways and resources, educational activities for the whole family, and snowballs for kids and adults too. Residents are encouraged to clean up their neighborhoods and storm drains before hurricane season to minimize the risk of flooding in the summer.
MOVIE NIGHT AT THE LIGHTHOUSE
MOVIE NIGHT AT THE LIGHTHOUSE Spring and Fall dates
EVENT PURPOSE: In partnership with NORD, we are presenting free movie nights in spring and fall. At our inaugural event in Fall 2023, the showing of “JAWS” was a phenomenal success. The event is designed to showcase fun ways to engage with Lake Pontchartrain and interact with STEM exhibits before the show. Beverages and snowballs are on site for purchase, and sponsorship helps make the event free to the public.

LIGHTS ON THE LAKE December 12, 2026* Pontchartrain Conservancy holds its annual Lights on the Lake holiday celebration every December. This community event features performances by local choirs and musicians, children’s activities, food trucks, and more!
Round out the night’s festivities with delicious hot toddies and refreshments! Best of all, Lights on the Lake provides a wonderful view of annual West End Christmas Boat Parade on Lake Pontchartrain. This fun, family-friendly event is an opportunity for your business to reach New Orleans families as they enjoy a festive evening on the lakefront. Support coastal restoration, STEM education, and efforts to keep the Pontchartrain Basin healthy for this and future generations. All proceeds from Lights on the Lake allow Pontchartrain Conservancy to continue its mission of restoring and preserving the water quality, coast, habitats, and public access of the entire Pontchartrain Basin, as well as offering education and outreach opportunities though the New Canal Lighthouse. *Date subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances
