Semaglutide is a medication used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and for long-term weight management in individuals with obesity or excess weight. It belongs to the class of drugs called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. Developed by Novo Nordisk, semaglutide is designed to mimic the action of the GLP-1 hormone, which is released after you eat and signals to your brain that you are full. Wegovy and Rybelsus:
Ozempic is an injection form of semaglutide used to lower blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, in addition to diet and exercise. Ozempic is also approved to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, or death in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and known heart disease.
Wegovy is an injection version of semaglutide.
