Foreword by the Dean of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts This publication is designed to accompany a visitor to the Chula Art Town digital exhibition on the Google Art and Culture platform, which is a collaboration between the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University and Google Arts and Culture. Chula Art Town digital art exhibition project was created by Fine and Applied Arts Multidisciplinary Art Innovation Program (FAAMAI). We intend to make our Street Art accessible to the global community by presenting a range of local narratives from over 50 street artists, on Chulalongkorn University’s grounds, in the thriving heart of modern Bangkok, as well as in Suanluang, Samyan and Siam Square districts. The public artworks may also be viewed on-site as well as online via electronic devices. The Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts would like to thank Chulaongkorn University’s Second Century Fund (C2F), Property Management of Chulalongkorn University (PMCU), Urai Paints and ATM Spray (U.R. FAAMAI (Fine and Applied Arts Multidisciplinary Art Innovation Program), funded by C2F (The Second Centenary Fund, Chulalongkorn University), is aimed at developing arts that support economy and society through one of the most ubiquitous tool nowadays – digital arts. This program has also received generous supported from PMCU (Property Management of Chulalongkorn University) and Pico (Thailand) PCL. Now, FAAMAI is responsible for 2 facilities: FAAMAI Studio – at Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, and FAAMAI Dome – at Chula Centenary Park (100 Years Park).

How to use this book

On the front page, there is a Braille notation, indicated by QR Code on the lower right-hand of the page. On the lower left page, there is QR Code that can be scanned and linked to each Artist web page for more information beyond the book, such as a 360-degree virtual reality scene, GeoTag that links to Google map and navigation system, the artist’s social media like Instagram and Facebook, and the artist gallery. On the lower right page, if there is an AR icon, the viewer can scan the artwork by using a smartphone ARTIVIVE App on both Android and iOS to view the artist’s short clip over the artwork.

Concept The end that always brings something new tomorrow. In the past, the Samyan–Suanluang district was filled with people who came to shop and enjoy delicious food from well-known restaurants. Currently, some original buildings have been demolished for future development. I compare this area with the end of a TV program, when we were young. When we turned off the TV late at night, we would see a TV signal test picture with color bars. We didn’t know what it was called but we recognized instantly that it was the end of the progamming that night. However, it also made us realize that tomorrow, there would be something new to watch. Samyan–Suanluang district as the end that is always waiting for a new beginning every day. 76

Collaborative work and design of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts alumni, Class 16 Concept To look at old buildings with a new perspective. Despite time, their value remains as a symbol of culture and the way of life and soul of the people at that time (zeitgeist). To me, painting an old building should not be interpreted as various matters or covering up other matters that one is not happy with. If the building is compared to a person, my painting should help people look more admirable, while still being true to themselves and not becoming someone else.

Our characters are mostly sweet girls in pink, with varied poses for each space, to change the feeling of space to cuteness. Artist – BigDel Biography In the beginning, I was known as ‘Del’. However, my name was spelt as ‘Dale’ which I felt was a little short, and with my body size, I changed it to ‘BigDel’. It is now part of my identity, especially when I autograph my name ‘BigDel’ as a part of my paintings. Concept My work shows the location of a motorcycle taxi station and an ice-cream character, which communicates that this is a delicious food area in Samyan. Moreover, the main color is pink which is the color of Chulalongkorn University.

The participants included students and children from the Samyan and Suanluang communities. The training consisted of lectures and practical hands-on experience through spraying on a wall. The creative workshop was fun and brought many smiles to all the participants.
