ABSTRACT Changes occur all the time, in the past we believed that only faith or religion could change the world. Today, we realize that digital technology has a this potential, but it also causes a significant disruption in our lives and learning behaviors, especially in the age of digital museum.

The disruption for museum designer is applying design theory to meet digital generation demands.

The objective of this paper is to study current virtual museum design and related theories, to create design guidelines and evaluate virtual museum design. This dissertation used mixed

method process utilizing statistics accumulated from interview with open ended questions. Looking at areas s u c h a s fo r m s o f v i r t u a l museums, principles of design to satisfaction of visitors. In addition, qualitative investigation of 25 current virtual museums and their best practices were evaluated.

The results found that a design-based approach can enhance learning efficiency and user experience of virtual national museum users.

This research defines virtual museum components and graphic design principles that can be apply to communicate with digital generations about virtual museum. More over

result indicated, that realities of museums are perceived differently from past to present, with variance in environments and users perceptions over time.

The virtual museum of today, is not only a communication tool between user and museum, but also are communication platforms among multiple users, who can share, exchange interest and learning from one to another.

Current virtual museums is not limited as digital form, but also immersed into traditional media, it can focus on very niche information, that can be delivered quick and concise, creating interest for self-learning and understanding.
