Avanzando contra viento y marea

Moving forward against all odds

El inicio de un nuevo curso siempre es duro y esperanzador a la vez.

Los buenos resultados de la industria del packaging en 2021, en algunos casos incluso superando las cifras pre-pandemia, se han unido este año a la escalada de precios de la energía y el aumento del coste de las materias primas y el transporte, que han llevado a un freno de la producción en sectores como el papelero. El papel y el cartón protagonizan nuestro artículo central, donde se registra esta situación: el sector papelero ha crecido en su conjunto (celulosa+papel) el 6,5 % en 2021, pero, en el primer cuatrimestre de 2022, la producción de papel apenas se ha incrementado un 0,4 % y la celulosa ha experimentado una caída del 8,3 %, según datos del Informe Anual del Sector de la Celulosa y el Papel facilitado por Aspapel (Asociación Española de Fabricantes de Pasta, Papel y Cartón).

El aumento del precio de materias primas como el papel ha afectado a numerosas empresas, aunque otras se avanzaron al problema y tienen stock. Así, por ejemplo, Eurobox, tal como nos comenta en la entrevista que publicamos, realiza previsiones de compra de materia prima con una anticipación superior a 8 meses, lo que les permite garantizar un stock de seguridad. Por otra parte, la escasez de materias primas no afecta a las empresas que no dependen de Asia como es el caso de Liasa La Industrial Algodonera, que también entrevistamos en esta revista, aunque sí sufren el aumento importante de precios de las materias primas y de la energía.

Por último, queremos destacar la entrevista a Bulldog, un estudio creativo de diseño gráfico especializado en packaging y branding, y la entrevista a Santiveri, que lleva más de cien años preocupándose por el cuidado y el bienestar de las personas. Con nueva imagen y logotipo, están en un interesante proceso de transformación de la marca con Summa Branding, que les invitamos a descubrir.

The start of a new year is always tough and hopeful at the same time. The good results of the packaging industry in 2021, in some cases even surpassing pre-pandemic figures, have been coupled this year with the escalation of energy prices and the rising cost of raw materials and transport, which have led to a slowdown in production in sectors such as paper. Paper and cardboard star in our central article, where this situation is recorded: the paper sector has grown as a whole (pulp + paper) 6.5% in 2021, but, in the first four months of 2022, paper production has barely increased by 0.4% and pulp has experienced a fall of 8.3%, according to data from the Annual Report of the Pulp and Paper Sector provided by Aspapel (Spanish Association of Pulp, Paper and Cardboard Manufacturers).

The increase in the price of raw materials such as paper has affected many companies, although others have anticipated the problem and taken stock. Thus, for example, Eurobox, as it commented in the interview we published, forecasts the purchase of raw materials more than 8 months in advance, which allows them to guarantee a safety stock. On the other hand, the shortage of raw materials does not affect companies that do not depend on Asia, as is the case of Liasa La Industrial Algodonera, which we also interviewed in this magazine, although they do suffer from the significant increase in raw material and energy prices.

Finally, we would like to highlight the interview with Bulldog, a creative graphic design studio specializing in packaging and branding, and the interview with Santiveri, which has been concerned about the care and well-being of people for more than a hundred years. Más de 225 asistentes se reunieron en el Hotel Melia Villaitana de Benidorm para asistir al XXII Congreso de AIFEC, con el título: «Nuevas formas, nuevos tiempos, nuevas oportunidades».

El programa ofreció 8 sesiones técnicas realizadas por los patrocinadores: AB Graphic, Fedrigoni, Xeikon, Esagraf, HP, E21, Bost y Martin Automatic; y 4 ponencias organizadas por AIFEC. Jules Le Jeune, director de la FINAT, presentó las líneas directrices y los datos principales del sector de las etiquetas desde la asociación europea, situando a España en el centro. Fernando Botella, CEO de Think&Action, proporcionó una experiencia motivacional, divertida, con su ponencia «Juntos hacemos futuro», patrocinada por UPM Raflatac. Alberto Salviejo de ISDI respondió a las preguntas: ¿Cómo incorporar tecnología a la relación con clientes, proveedores y empleados? ¿Cómo monetizar las inversiones en digitalización y mejorar ventas y eficiencia interna? ¿Cómo movilizar a nuestra organización en la era digital?. Sara Escudero abordó las claves para ayudar a incorporar el sentido del humor como actitud vital y al mundo laboral.

También se celebró la Asamblea General y se dieron a conocer los ganadores de los Premios a las Mejores Etiquetas: Etygraf, Etiquetas Jufe, Grupo Lappí, Navarra de Etiquetajes, Gaez, Etiquetas Adhesivas Rever y Ovelar.

More than 225 attendees gathered at the Hotel Melia Villaitana in Benidorm to attend the XXII Congress of AIFEC, with the title: "New forms, new times, new opportunities".

The program offered 8 technical sessions carried out by the sponsors: AB Graphic, Fedrigoni, Xeikon, Esagraf, HP, E21, Bost and Martin Automatic; and 4 presentations organized by AIFEC. Jules Le Jeune, director of FINAT, presented the guidelines and the main data of the label sector from the European association, placing Spain in the center. Fernando Botella, CEO of Think&Action, provided a fun, motivational experience with his talk “Together we make the future”, sponsored by UPM Raflatac. Alberto Salviejo from ISDI answered the questions: How to incorporate technology into the relationship with customers, suppliers and employees? How to monetize investments in digitization and improve sales and internal efficiency? How to mobilize our organization in the digital age? Sara Escudero addressed the keys to help incorporate a sense of humor as a vital attitude and into the world of work.

The General Assembly was also held and the winners of the Best Label Awards were announced: Etygraf, Etiquetas Jufe, Lappí Group, Navarra de Etiquetajes, Gaez, Rever Adhesive Labels and Ovelar.

Akcoat ha confiado en Hinojosa Packaging Group, líder en soluciones sostenibles de envasado en el sur de Europa, para desarrollar conjuntamente un sistema de packaging para líquidos 100 % reciclable, que permitirá reducir la generación de residuos en el uso de tintas de inyección en la industria cerámica, así como facilitar la manipulación de este producto durante toda la cadena logística.

Con este envase, se elimina hasta 3 veces el plástico que contenían hasta ahora los bidones utilizados tradicionalmente para el envasado de tintas y se reduce considerablemente el volumen de residuos.

La solución de packaging está compuesta por una bolsa flexible y un envase de cartón, fácilmente separables para su reciclaje. La bolsa que contiene el producto cuenta con un tapón que permite su dosificación y está protegida por el envase de cartón.

De apariencia elegante y diseño único, el mecanismo interior patentado ayuda a juntar el producto hacia la cámara de aire, lo que permite una máxima eficiencia. La botella rellenable es una alternativa al envasado en aerosol tradicional y es ideal para envasar formulaciones en polvo como champú en seco, fragancias o polvos corporales y formulaciones de purpurina. La exposición «El mejor diseño del año», que permaneció abierta del 3 de junio al 28 de agosto de 2022 en el Espai A del Disseny Hub Barcelona, estuvo organizada por el Fomento de las Artes y el Diseño (FAD) y promovida por el Disseny Hub Barcelona con la colaboración del Museo del Diseño de Barcelona. En la undécima edición de la exposición se recogieron más de quinientas obras y proyectos finalistas y ganadores de los galardones organizados por las asociaciones del FAD, premiando proyectos relacionados con el diseño gráfico y la comunicación visual, el diseño industrial, la arquitectura y el interiorismo.

Hubo tres ámbitos expositivos: Diseño gráfico y comunicación visual Premios ADG Laus, Diseño del espacio - Premios FAD de Arquitectura, y Diseño industrial y cultura del diseño - Premios ADI. También se propusieron cuatro itinerarios multidisciplinares, tres alineados con los principios de la Nueva Bauhaus Europea y un cuarto sobre la innovación tecnológica. The exhibition "The best design of the year", which was open from June 3 to August 28, 2022 in Espai A of the Disseny Hub Barcelona, was organized by the Fomento de las Artes y el Diseño (FAD) and promoted by the Disseny Hub Barcelona in collaboration with the Barcelona Design Museum. In the eleventh edition of the exhibition, more than five hundred finalist works and projects were collected and winners of the awards organized by the FAD associations, rewarding projects related to graphic design and visual communication, industrial design, architecture and interior design.

There were three exhibition areas: Graphic Design and Visual Communication - ADG Laus Awards, Space Design - FAD Architecture Awards, and Industrial Design and Design Culture - ADI Awards. Four multidisciplinary itineraries were also proposed, three aligned with the principles of the New European Bauhaus and a fourth on technological innovation.

Berlin Packaging adquiere acquires Vidrierías Pérez Campos, Verrerie du Comtat y and Bark Packaging Group

Berlin Packaging ha adquirido la empresa española Vidrierías Pérez Campos SL, distribuidora de envases de vidrio para los mercados del aceite de oliva, de las fragancias para el hogar y de las bebidas espirituosas.

Fundada en 1987 y con sede en Rute (Córdoba), Vidrierías Pérez Campos ofrece soluciones de envasado de vidrio de alta calidad. El director general de la empresa, Juan de Dios Pérez, permanecerá en la compañía.

Asimismo, Berlin Packaging ha comprado también Verrerie du Comtat, proveedor de envases de vidrio para los mercados finales del vino y el aceite de oliva en Francia. Situada en Sorgues, Verrerie du Comtat suministra botellas de vidrio, tarros, corchos y accesorios de packaging.

Berlin Packaging has acquired the Spanish company Vidrierías Pérez Campos SL, a distributor of glass containers for the olive oil, home fragrances and spirits markets.

Founded in 1987 and based in Rute (Córdoba), Vidrierías Pérez Campos offers high quality glass packaging solutions. The company's CEO, Juan de Dios Pérez, will remain with the company.

Berlin Packaging has also acquired Verrerie du Comtat, a supplier of glass packaging for the wine and olive oil end markets in France. Located in Sorgues, Verrerie du Comtat supplies glass bottles, jars, corks and packaging accessories.

Premios ADI de diseño industrial y cultura del diseño ADI Industrial Design and Design Culture Awards

Los Premios ADI 2022, organizados por la Asociación del Diseño Industrial ADI-FAD, aglutinan los premios Delta, para profesionales y empresas de diseño industrial; las Medallas ADI, para estudiantes de diseño de producto; y los Premios ADI Cultura, que reconocen los proyectos que ponen en valor la cultura del diseño.

El jurado destaca aquellos proyectos que recuperan formas y materiales tradicionales, ofrecen nuevas herramientas para la vida contemporánea y son más respetuosos con el medioambiente.

El Premio ADI Cultura Oro ha recaído en MaDe - Materials Designers (Laura Cleries, Valentina Rognoli & Seetal Solanki), de Elisava Research, Politecnico di Milano y Ma-tt-er.

MaDe es un proyecto cofinanciado por el Programa Creative Europe de la UE, que impulsa el talento joven hacia las economías circulares.

Las dos Medallas ADI de Oro ex aequo recaen en proyectos de carácter social: Balisa de Ariadna Sala Nadal (Elisava), que visibiliza la problemática del abuso sexual infantil, y Sway de Xueyu Ji (IED Madrid), un sistema de medida adaptado a personas ciegas.

Premios Delta 2022 El jurado, formado por Sabine Marcelis, Alessandro Riga, Clara Guasch, Aleix Ingles y Aurelie Tu, otorgó 7 Delta de Oro, 14 Delta

de Plata, 1 Mención Delta y 124 Delta de Bronce. En la categoría Packaging, cabe destacar el premio Delta de Plata a Simon 270, diseñado por el departamento de diseño de Simon. Es un embalaje duradero, práctico y sostenible, que evita tener que teñir toda la caja utilizando el color kraft y el color corporativo.

Destacar también que la junta de ADI-FAD concedió el Premio Delta Trayectoria a BD Barcelona Design, empresa editora fundada por un grupo de arquitectos con vocación por el diseño que durante 50 años ha sido capaz de construir un modelo de negocio transgresor, contribuyendo a proyectar el valor del diseño corno fenómeno inseparable de la cultura.

ADI Industrial Design and Design Culture Awards The 2022 ADI Awards, organized by the ADI-FAD Industrial Design Association, bring together the Delta awards, for industrial design professionals and companies; the ADI Medals, for product design students; and the ADI Culture Awards, which recognize projects that value design culture.

The jury highlights those projects that recover traditional forms and materials, offer new tools for contemporary life and are more respectful of the environment.

The ADI Culture Gold Award went to MaDe Materials Designers (Laura Cleries, Valentina Rognoli & Seetal Solanki), from Elisava Re-

MaDe is a project co-financed by the Creative Europe Program of the EU, which promotes young talent towards circular economies.

XIII Premios Nacionales de Envase National Packaging Awards El acto de entrega de los XIII Premios Nacionales de Diseño y Sostenibilidad de Envase y Embalaje tuvo lugar en Valencia con más de 250 asistentes y la presencia de la secretaria autonómica de Economía Sostenible, Sectores Productivos, Comercio y Consumo de la Generalitat Valenciana, Empar Martínez; la presidenta del Clúster de Innovación de Envase y Embalaje, Amaya Fernández, entidad que promueve estos Premios, y el director del Clúster, Jesús Pérez.

Ubesol, Solan de Cabras, Trolli, Grupo la Plana y J2 Servid lanzaron sus retos a los 614 alumnos de más de 30 centros educativos.

Proyectos ganadores El reto propuesto por Ubesol, fabricante de productos de higiene, cosmética y salud, ha sido el de mejorar la sostenibilidad de sus envases, en concreto conseguir una tapeta reutilizable que garantizase la estanquidad. El primer premio ha sido para Ariadna Montiel y César Izquierdo, estudiantes de la Universitat Jaume I con su proyecto IMANtap.

Solan de Cabras ha propuesto a los estudiantes crear un gran formato para el consumo de agua en los hogares que pese a su volumen fuera fácil de manejar. La «Nit ADG Laus» fue la gran cita en la que la Asociación de Diseñadores Gráficos y Directores de Arte del FAD, ADG-FAD, entregó los Premios ADG Laus de Diseño Gráfico y Comunicación Visual. Organizada en el marco de la Barcelona Design Week (2-22 de junio), tuvo lugar en el Disseny Hub Barcelona.

Más de mil doscientos proyectos se han presentado este año a los ADG Laus. En total, han resultado 335 proyectos ganadores en las cinco categorías. Los premiados se reparten así: 2 Grand Laus, 1 Young Talent, 1 Laus de Honor, 1 Laus de Empresas y Entidades, 37 Laus de Oro, 66 Laus de Plata y 229 Laus de Bronce.

Los proyectos se dividen en seis categorías: Diseño Gráfico, Digital, Publicidad, Audiovisual, Estudiantes y Aporta. Dentro de cada categoría, los proyectos, presentados en diferentes apartados, compiten para conseguir los Laus de Bronce, Laus de Plata y Laus de Oro. Los proyectos premiados con un Laus de Oro en cada categoría compiten para alzarse con un Grand Laus y, en el caso de los estudiantes, un Young Talent. Por último, un comité de expertos escoge dos premios de relevancia: el Laus de Honor y el Laus de Empresas y Entidades.

More than one thousand two hundred projects have been presented this year to the ADG Laus. In total, there have been 335 winning projects in the five categories. The winners are distributed as follows: 2 Grand Laus, 1 Young Talent, 1 Honor Laus, 1 Companies and Entities Laus, 37 Gold Laus, 66 Silver Laus and 229 Bronze Laus.

The projects are divided into six categories: Graphic Design, Digital, Advertising, Audiovisual, Students and Contribute. Within each category, the projects, presented in different sections, compete to win the Bronze Laus, Silver Laus and Gold Laus. The projects awarded a Gold Laus in each category compete to win a Grand Laus and, in the case of students, a Young Talent. Finally, a committee of experts chooses two relevant awards: the Laus of Honor and the Laus of Companies and Entities.

Grand Laus Digital: «Digital Guide to Cardiac Surgery» by Estudio La Negrita Multimedia platform with information to solve all the doubts that arise to the patient who has to go through a cardiac operation. The resulting web is a simple and functional tool.

Ventas de Perfumería y Cosmética premia las iniciativas más sostenibles rewards the most sustainable initiatives

Los VPC Green Beauty Awards, creados por la revista profesional Ventas de Perfumería y Cosmética, han premiado a las mejores empresas, marcas, productos e iniciativas verdes del sector beauty en España. De entre las muchas candidaturas recibidas, un jurado experto seleccionó a los tres mejores para cada una de las 11 categorías. La última categoría, la de Premio del Público, es el resultado de una votación online por parte de los consumidores. Finalmente, el 1 de junio se revelaron los ganadores. La entrega de premios tuvo lugar en el hotel H10 Metropolitan, de Barcelona.

Los trofeos han sido realizados en material sostenible y pinturas ecológicas.

En esta segunda edición, los VPC Green Beauty Awards han vuelto a obtener el apoyo de todo el sector que está volcado en conseguir cada día políticas y productos más sostenibles.

The VPC Green Beauty Awards, created by the professional magazine Ventas de Perfumería y Cosmética, has awarded the best green companies, brands, products and initiatives in the beauty sector in Spain. From among the many applications received, an expert jury selected the best three for each of the 11 categories. The last category, the Audience Award, is the result of an online vote by consumers.

Finally, on June 1 the winners were revealed.

The awards ceremony took place at the H10 Metropolitan hotel in Barcelona. The trophies have been made of sustainable material and ecological paints.

Eurobox celebra este año su 25 aniversario. ¿Qué balance hacen de estos 25 años?

Nuestra filosofía de trabajo junto con nuestra pasión por el trabajo bien hecho es lo que nos ha llevado a ser una de las principales empresas de packaging de metal de Europa, pudiendo encontrar nuestros productos en cualquier parte del mundo.

La identificación de un nicho de mercado con necesidades sin cubrir empujó a la primera generación del negocio a invertir en la fabricación de envases metálicos especiales. ¿De qué manera han influido las nuevas tecnologías en la evolución del sector?

Tenemos un gran equipo que apuesta por la investigación y el desarrollo de nuevos productos con el fin de estar siempre a la vanguardia con las últimas tendencias del mercado para ofrecer siempre las mejores opciones a nuestros clientes y aplicar los últimos avances tecnológicos disponibles en la industria.

Están especializados en envases metálicos, ¿qué ventajas tiene el metal como material para packaging?

En este caso tenemos que agradecer al consumidor europeo la gran concienciación en cuanto al reciclaje. Todo metal que depositamos en el contenedor amarillo es aprovechado para posteriores usos. En el caso de la hojalata su ciclo de utilización es infinito, por lo que las acererías, como Arcelor Mittal, acaban recuperando este metal y lo utilizan de nuevo en el proceso productivo. Además, los envases que fabricamos tienen un componente de colección, por lo que son envases que el cliente final reutiliza y se queda a vivir en su hogar por mucho tiempo para un segundo uso. ¿Les ha afectado la escasez de materias primas y la crisis energética?

Nuestras previsiones de compra de materia prima se realizan con una anticipación superior a 8 meses, lo que nos permite generar y garantizar un stock de seguridad para poder hacer frente a las campañas. La clave en estas situaciones es una mezcla entre previsión y toma de riesgos.

En relación con la crisis energética, son nuestros proveedores los que se han llevado

la peor parte en cuanto al aumento de los costes que, lógicamente, nos han trasladado al resto de la cadena productiva. ¿Trabajan exclusivamente para perfumería, alimentación y bebidas?

Básicamente el 90 % de la producción atiende a estos sectores, con especial mención a la perfumería y la alimentación, ya que desde la pandemia nuestros clientes han realizado un gran ejercicio de adaptación en las nuevas formas de consumo, condicionadas en el caso de la perfumería y cosmética por la compra online y, en el caso de la alimentación, a los nuevos hábitos de consumo en el hogar. Todo ello condicionado por la cadena de suministro que demanda productos fabricados en Europa con una entrega rápida. ¿Qué medidas están implementando a favor de una producción más sostenible?

Desde Eurobox siempre hemos defendido la reciclabilidad de ciclo infinito del metal, así como el doble uso que los consumidores le dan a nuestros envases una vez éste cumple su función principal. De cara al futuro el foco está puesto en la fabricación de la materia prima. Ya está en marcha un proyecto en el sector en el que la fabricación de la hojalata se prevé que sea neutra en emisiones de carbono en los próximos años. ¿Qué importancia conceden a la I+D? Contamos con un equipo de ingenieros que trabajan día a día diseñando nuestra propia tecnología y maquinaria para adaptar todas las líneas de producción y todos los detalles

¿Tienen previsto ofrecer algún nuevo servicio a sus clientes?

Desde la irrupción del teletrabajo, observamos que ha cambiado la forma en la que los equipos interactúan en el proceso de desarrollo de nuevos proyectos. Es por ello que estamos reforzando el área de diseño gráfico e industrial apoyándonos en la realidad virtual con el ánimo de ayudar a los clientes en acortar el proceso de toma de decisiones, ahorrando etapas en el proceso. ¿Cuáles son sus objetivos a medio y largo plazo?

Estamos detectando posibles oportunidades en el mercado debido a los cambios de legislación en el mercado de los envases de un solo uso, por lo que esperamos seguir ofreciendo alternativas y novedades que puedan seguir promocionando el metal como envase seguro, atractivo, de múltiples usos y reciclable de ciclo infinito.

Our work philosophy together with our passion for a job well done is what has led us to be one of the leading metal packaging companies in Europe, being able to find our products anywhere in the world.

How have new technologies influenced the evolution of the sector?

Eurobox specializes in metal packaging, what are the advantages of metal as a material for packaging?

In this case we have to thank the European consumer for the great awareness of recycling. All metal that we deposit in the yellow container is used for further applications. In the case of tinplate, its cycle of use is infinite, so that steel mills, such as Arcelor Mittal, end up recovering this metal and using it again in the production process. In addition, the containers we manufacture have a collection component, so they are containers that the end customer reuses and keeps at home for a long time for a second use.

Have you been affected by the shortage of raw materials and the energy crisis?

Our raw material purchase forecasts are made more than 8 months in advance, which allows us to generate and guarantee a safety stock to be able to face the campaigns. The key in these situations is a mix of foresight and risktaking.

In relation to the energy crisis, it is our suppliers who have borne the brunt in terms of increased costs, which they have logically passed on to the rest of the production chain.

Do you work exclusively for perfumery, food and beverages?

Basically 90% of our production is for these sectors, with special mention to perfumery and food, because since the pandemic our customers have made a great effort to adapt to new forms of consumption, conditioned in the case of perfumery and cosmetics by online shopping and, in the case of food, to new consumption habits in the home. All of this is conditioned by the supply chain that demands products manufactured in Europe with fast delivery.

What measures are you implementing in favor of a more sustainable production?

At Eurobox we have always defended the recyclability of the infinite cycle of metal, as well as the dual use that consumers give to our packaging once it has fulfilled its main function. For the future, the focus is on the manufacture of the raw material. Do you plan to offer any new services to your customers?

Since the irruption of teleworking, we have observed that it has changed the way in which teams interact in the process of developing new projects. That is why we are reinforcing the area of graphic and industrial design by relying on virtual reality with the aim of helping clients to shorten the decision-making process, saving steps in the process.

What are your medium- and long-term objectives?

We are detecting possible opportunities in the market due to changes in legislation in the single-use packaging market, so we hope to continue offering alternatives and novelties that can continue to promote metal as a safe, attractive, multipurpose and recyclable packaging with an infinite cycle.

Ulé es la nueva marca natural para el cuidado de la piel de Shiseido, construida sobre una visión sofisticada y eco-responsable de la belleza. Esta joven marca necesitaba un packaging que cumpliera con sus objetivos eco-responsables.

Ulé optó por fabricar sus envases con vidrio ligero, que tiene una huella de carbono reducida, para lo que seleccionó los tarros y botellas de Bormioli Luigi, principalmente de su colección verde, ecoLine. Para sus tapas con material de origen orgánico, contó con la experiencia de Faiveley Plast Beauty (VPI).

VPI produjo todas las tapas para la nueva gama, incluyendo: dos cápsulas de diferentes tamaños para la crema Je suis Chill (cápsulas de 15ml y 30ml) y un tapón para la bruma floral equilibrante Le beau Reset. Estas tapas se componen de dos partes hechas de Sulapac.

Shiseido launched Ulé - its new natural skincare brand that has been built on a sophisticated and ecoresponsible vision of beauty. Ulé opted to manufacture its containers from lightweight glass, which has a reduced carbon footprint, and selected jars and bottles from Bormioli Luigi, mainly from its green collection, ecoLine. In addition to this, Ulé chose the recognised expertise of Faiveley Plast Beauty (VPI) to manufacture its organically-sourced caps.

VPI produced all of the caps for the new range including: two caps of different sizes for the ‘Je suis chill’ cream (15ml and 30ml caps) and a cap for the balancing floral mist ‘Le beau Reset’.These caps comprise two parts made from Sulapac.

Para estas ocho minibotellas de fragancia de 4ml, se construyó una caja rígida, con una tapa y una bandeja que se levantan y se quitan por completo para facilitar el acceso y una funda de cartón. Los accesorios internos permiten que el producto pase a ser el centro de atención. El uso de la impresión 2c, el estampado en lámina de oro y un patrón de relieve repetitivo alrededor del packaging añade un toque de lujo y complementa las tapas doradas y los adornos de los frascos de perfume.

For these eight mini 4ml fragrance bottles, a rigid box was build, with a completely removable lift-off lid and tray for smooth access, and a paperboard sleeve. The fitments within allow the product to step into the spotlight. The use of 2c printing, gold foil stamping and a repeating emboss pattern around the packaging adds a touch of luxury and complements the gold lids and adornments of the perfume bottles.

Con esta nueva creación, el diseñador Anthony Gambus explora las múltiples facetas de la feminidad. La original forma del frasco de Duality revela sutilmente con elegancia los armoniosos pliegues, realzados por un color ciruela muy glamuroso. Todo ello está delimitado por una banda de silicona negra grabada con el nombre de la marca. Este efecto de materia texturada contrasta con el resto del frasco de cristal. Las estrías de este modelo hicieron necesario realizar ajustes al modelo en la línea de partición, para evitar cualquier alteración del diseño durante el desmoldeo. Además, el lugar donde se ubica el accesorio de silicona (y por tanto deformable) requería un trabajo de adaptación muy especial en cuanto a tolerancias y dimensiones With this new creation, the designer Anthony Gambus explores the multiple facets of femininity. The original shape of the Duality bottle subtly reveals with elegance the harmonious pleats, highlighted by a very glamorous plum colour. All this is outlined by a black silicone band embossed with the name of the brand. This textured material effect contrasts with the rest of the glass bottle.The striations of this model made it necessary to make adjustments to the model at the parting line, in order to avoid any alteration of the design during the removal from the mould. In addition, the place where the silicone (and therefore deformable) accessory is located required a very special adaptation work related to tolerance and dimensions.

La impresión digital HP Indigo ha sido el partner estratégico de Incapto para la producción de sus envases flexibles y cajas de envío de cartón ondulado. El primer paso de la colaboración conjunta fue HP Garage Innovation Workshop y, con las opciones de personalización de HP, se ayudó en la creación de envases. Después, se conectó la red de HP de Impresores para llevar a cabo las primeras producciones y actualmente ya se ha firmado un acuerdo para la impresión de envases flexibles en una HP Indigo 20000 en España.

HP Indigo digital printing has been Incapto's strategic partner for the production of its flexible packaging and corrugated cardboard shipping boxes. The first step in the joint collaboration was the HP Garage Innovation Workshop and, with HP's customization options, assisted in the creation of packaging. Later, the HP network of Printers was connected to carry out the first productions and an agreement has already been signed for the printing of flexible packaging on an HP Indigo 20000 in Spain.

Truyol Digital, compañía especializada en impresión digital, hace más accesible la impresión de braille a través de sus tiradas cortas a medida para packaging folding carton, etiquetas en bobina y cualquier producto impreso en hoja. De esta manera, fomenta el diseño inclusivo. En un futuro, tiene previsto incorporar la impresión de braille para señalética, cartelería y cajas para envíos sobre materiales de gran formato.

La impresión de braille con tecnología digital se realiza con la técnica de braille sólido, que consiste en la impresión de los puntos de relieve mediante gotas de barniz.

Truyol Digital, a company specializing in digital printing, makes braille printing more accessible through its custom short runs for folding carton packaging, reel labels, and any sheet-printed product. El packaging es nuestro sector principal y somos el mayor fabricante europeo. LIASA es una empresa familiar, con más de 100 años de experiencia, exportamos a los cinco continentes y

ropea y tenemos muy poca dependencia asiática en materias primas. Es una filosofía que llevamos aplicando y que tenemos claro que queremos seguir practicando. La dependencia asiática no es sostenible y es importante que toda la cadena del packaging también lo entienda así. Las marcas y el consumidor también lo tienen que entender y tenemos todos que seguir en esta línea sostenible. El depender menos de Asia ha permitido que podamos gestionar mejor la escasez de materias primas y no hemos tenido ninguna rotura de producción por este motivo. Lo que sí hemos sufrido es un aumento importante de precios de las materias primas y de la energía, una situación preocupante y que vuelve a recordarnos la importancia de tener más producción nacional, para poder gestionar mejor nuestros recursos.

generación y en I+D+I, para poder ofrecer a nuestros clientes los mejores productos y los más competitivos. El packaging es un sector que necesita servicio rápido y cortos plazos de entrega, una gran capacidad productiva es una necesidad para poder ofrecer buen servicio.

Somos una empresa textil porque trabajamos con hilos textiles, pero aparte de la fabricación del cordón, cordón elástico y cintas, también fabricamos el hilo de polipropileno, tenemos prensadoras que transforman el metal, colocamos los terminales metálicos con autómatas, contamos con inyectoras que colocan piezas de plástico en los terminales de forma automática… disponemos de una gran diversidad de maquinaria para poder cubrir todos los procesos de la fabricación y poder asegurar una calidad de servicio con la mayor rapidez, sin depender de terceros.

Esta maquinaria también nos permite personalizar aún más los productos. Diseñamos productos según las necesidades de nuestros clientes y, al disponer de toda esta maquinaria, nos amplía el abanico de posibilidades de desarrollo.

Todos sus cordones y cintas de papel tienen la certificación FSC®. ¿Con qué otros materiales trabajan?

Desde nuestro departamento de I+D+I, hemos desarrollado un producto innovador, la fabricación de cordones y cintas de papel con certificación FSC®. Partimos de una materia prima certificada FSC® que es un hilo de papel y luego lo trenzamos o tejemos para fabricar el cordón, cordón elástico o cinta. Es un producto que no existía en el mercado y lo hemos creado para ofrecer a nuestros clientes, que fabrican el packaging de cartón, la posibilidad de ofrecer un asa o cierre del mismo material. De esta forma el packaging es mono material y facilita su reciclaje.

También trabajamos con cordones de polipropileno, de algodón natural, de algodón reciclado, algodón BCI, de yute, de poliéster reciclado de botellas de plástico… materiales con distintas características técnicas que cubren las diferentes necesidades de nuestros clientes. ¿Qué medidas implementan para una producción más sostenible?

Somos conscientes de que debemos poner en el centro a las personas y al cuidado de nuestro entorno, de que debemos generar valor para todos los actores. Para LIASA la sostenibilidad es el conjunto de políticas destinadas a hacer compatible el crecimiento económico y la preservación de la biodiversidad, para evitar la degrada-

ción de la biosfera provocada por la acción humana. Trabajamos en un modelo económico de producción y consumo sostenible de economía circular, donde los materiales, productos y/o servicios son diseñados para durar y volver a entrar en la cadena de valor industrial una vez ya no se pueden utilizar. ¿Realizarán algún otro proyecto como el que han llevado a cabo con Clúster del Packaging, la AEI Textiles y la Agencia de Residuos de Cataluña?

Estamos en constante evolución y muestra de ellos son los grandes proyectos que tenemos en marcha. Somos un miembro activo de la AEI Textils (Asociación de empresas innovadoras textiles) y estamos participando en diferentes programas europeos para desarrollar productos, digitalizar la empresa y ser más sostenibles. Algunos de los proyectos no los puedo desvelar, pero van en la línea de buscar nuevas soluciones de una forma sostenible. Dos proyectos que sí puedo avanzar son la implantación de placas solares, que va en coherencia de nuestra apuesta por la conservación del planeta, generando menos emisiones contaminantes, emitiendo menos ruido y ahorrando consumo de energía. Y el otro proyecto es la digitalización de la planta de producción, aportándonos información al instante de la fabricación y así tomar decisiones para mejorar la eficiencia del OEE y ofrecer a nuestros clientes un producto más competitivo y más rápido. ¿Cuáles son las tendencias del mercado?

Dependiendo de la posición en el mercado de la marca, las tendencias son diferentes. Hay marcas de lujo de primera línea que apuestan por el diseño y otras que apuestan por la sostenibilidad.

Nuestro valor añadido es escuchar las necesidades del cliente y proponerle el mejor producto para cubrir esa necesidad. Nuestros clientes también agradecen nuestro conocimiento del sector; en algunos casos, nos han pedido algún material determinado que, por desconocimiento, no era el más adecuado para conseguir el objetivo que buscaban. Nuestro equipo de atención al cliente está enfocado al asesoramiento, no a la pura venta. ¿Tienen previsto algún lanzamiento para este segundo semestre?

Estamos desarrollando nuevos productos sostenibles y estamos ampliando la gama de los productos sostenibles que ya tenemos. En el primer caso de desarrollo de nuevos productos, esta-

mos en dos proyectos que esperamos poder sacar para principios del año que viene. En el caso de ampliación de gama de productos, estamos lanzando un nuevo producto cada semana. El circuito de comunicación entre el departamento comercial y el de I+D+I es muy directo y rápidamente estamos cubriendo necesidades que detectamos de nuestros clientes. Una de las grandes fuentes de información para presentar nuevos productos son nuestros clientes, la escucha activa y nuestra relación de colaboración, es clave para cubrir sus necesidades.

En su opinión, ¿cuál es la situación del sector del packaging en España?

La situación del packaging en España goza de muy buena salud y de empresas cada vez más innovadoras, creativas y exportadoras. En España, tenemos la suerte de tener grandes marcas internacionales que obligan al sector del packaging a detectar las nuevas tendencias y estar innovando e invirtiendo constantemente. El packaging español está creciendo en la exportación y ya somos uno de los países que las grandes marcas nos tienen presente. La pandemia, la difícil situación del transporte internacional y la dificultad de suministro de materias primas han provocado una tendencia de fabricación europea en algunas fabricaciones asiáticas. Las grandes marcas están viendo que no pueden depender de Asia y están empezando a traer parte de la fabricación asiática. Sería bueno y necesario que esta tendencia se mantuviera y que las marcas y

los consumidores sean conscientes de todas las bondades que tienen estas acciones. ¿Qué posicionamiento tiene Liasa?

Los grandes fabricantes, siempre nos tienen en cuenta para poder ofrecer a sus marcas, productos innovadores, de calidad y competitivos. Nuestros productos los utilizan grandes marcas de lujo; grupo LVMH (Louis Vuitton, Moët, Henessy, Veuve Clicquot, Loewe, Dior, Céline, Kenzo, Chaumet, Sephora… ), Gucci, Armani, Prada, Valentino, Ferragamo, Zara, Mango, Massimo Dutti… las marcas de lujo saben que trabajar con nosotros es garantía de calidad y servicio. ¿Qué objetivos tienen a corto-medio plazo?

Como empresa familiar, todos nuestros proyectos son pensando en el medio y largo plazo y tenemos muy claro que nuestro mayor activo son las personas. Nuestra prioridad es tener un equipo humano motivado, formado y proactivo. Actualmente estamos implantando un nuevo ERP de producción y estamos modificando el organigrama funcional incorporando la figura de un responsable de suministro. LIASA has been manufacturing cords and tapes, mainly for packaging, for more than a century...

Packaging is our main sector and we are the largest European manufacturer. LIASA is a family company, with more than 100 years of experience, we export to the five continents and we started working in the packaging sector in the 80s.

Our experience of more than 40 years in the sector has been transformed into knowledge to find the best solutions for our customers. We started manufacturing handle cords for luxury paper

bags and our first customer was TEXIDÓ, which is still one of our best customers. We work to order and offer more than 5,000 items for the packaging sector; cords, elastic cords and ribbons in different materials, different designs, different diameters, different sizes and we give them a value-added finish. Our products are used as handles to hold and transport luxury packaging, as closures and also as decoration. They are accessories that enhance the value of the packaging and give it a greater luxury image.

Are you overcoming the problems arising from the shortage of raw materials and the energy crisis, or is it still a worrying situation?

We are very loyal to national and European manufacturing and we have very little dependence on Asian raw materials. This is a philosophy we have been applying and it is clear to us that we want to continue practicing it. Asian dependence is not sustainable and it is important that the entire packaging chain also understands this.

Brands and consumers must also understand this and we must all continue along this sustainable line. Being less dependent on Asia has allowed us to better manage the shortage of raw materials and we have not had any production breakage for this reason. What we have suffered is a significant increase in the price of raw materials and energy, a worrying situation that once again reminds us of the importance of having more domestic production in order to better manage our resources.

Your factory has more than 900 state-of-the-art machines. What do they allow you to offer your customers?

We are constantly investing in state-of-the-art machinery and R&D to be able to offer our customers the best and most competitive products.

Packaging is a sector that needs fast service and short delivery times; a large production capacity is a necessity in order to be able to offer good service.

We are a textile company because we work with textile yarns, but apart from the manufacture of cord, elastic cord and tapes, we also manufacture polypropylene yarn, we have presses that transform the metal, we place the metal terminals with automatons, we have injectors that place plastic parts in the terminals automatically... we have a great diversity of machinery to cover all manufacturing processes and to ensure a quality service as quickly as possible, without rel-

ying on third parties.

This machinery also allows us to further customize our products. We design products according to the needs of our customers and, having all this machinery at our disposal, broadens the range of development possibilities.

All your paper cords and ribbons are FSC® certified.

From our R&D department, we have developed an innovative product, the manufacture of paper cords and ribbons with FSC® certification. We start with an FSC® certified raw material, which is a paper thread, and then we braid or weave it to manufacture the cord, elastic cord or ribbon. It is a product that did not exist in the market and we have created it to offer our customers, who manufacture cardboard packaging, the possibility of offering a handle or closure of the same material. In this way, the packaging is mono-material and facilitates its recycling.

We also work with polypropylene, natural cotton, recycled cotton, BCI cotton, jute, recycled polyester from plastic bottles... materials with different technical characteristics that cover the different needs of our customers.

What measures do you implement for more sustainable production?

We are aware that we must put people and the care of our environment at the center, that we must generate value for all stakeholders. For LIASA, sustainability is the set of policies aimed at making economic growth compatible with the preservation of biodiversity, in order to avoid the degradation of the biosphere caused by human action. We work on an economic model of sustainable production and consumption of circular economy, where materials, products and/or services are designed to last and re-enter the industrial value chain once they can no longer be used.

Will you carry out any other projects like the one you have carried out with the Packaging Cluster, the AEI Textiles and the Waste Agency of Catalonia?

We are constantly evolving and proof of this are the major projects we have underway. We are an active member of the AEI Textils (Association of innovative textile companies) and we are participating in different European programs to develop products, digitalize the company and be more sustainable. I cannot reveal some of the projects, but they are in line with the search for new solutions in a sustainable way. Two projects that I can

advance are the implementation of solar panels, which is consistent with our commitment to the conservation of the planet, generating less polluting emissions, emitting less noise and saving energy consumption. And the other project is the digitalization of the production plant, providing us with instant manufacturing information and thus making decisions to improve OEE efficiency and offer our customers a more competitive and faster product.

What are the market trends?

Depending on the market position of the brand, the trends are different. There are top luxury brands that are committed to design and others that are committed to sustainability. Our added value is to listen to the customer's needs and propose the best product to meet that need. Our customers also appreciate our knowledge of the sector; in some cases, they have asked us for a certain material that, due to lack of knowledge, was not the most suitable to achieve the objective they were looking for. Our customer service team is focused on advice, not purely on sales.

Do you have any launches planned for the second half of the year?

We are developing new sustainable products and we are expanding the range of sustainable products we already have. In the first case of new product development, we are working on two projects that we hope to launch early next year. In the case of product range expansion, we are launching a new product every week. The communication circuit between the commercial department and the R&D&I department is very direct and we are quickly covering the needs that we detect from our customers. One of the great sources of information to present new products are our customers, active listening and our collaborative relationship is key to meet their needs.

In your opinion, what is the situation of the packaging sector in Spain?

The packaging situation in Spain is in very good health, with companies that are increasingly innovative, creative and exporting. In Spain, we are fortunate to have big international brands that force the packaging sector to detect new trends and to be constantly innovating and investing.

Spanish packaging is growing in exports and we are already one of the countries that the big brands keep us in mind. The pandemic, the diffi-

cult situation of international transport and the difficulty of supplying raw materials have led to a trend of European manufacturing in some Asian factories. The big brands are seeing that they cannot depend on Asia and are starting to bring in some Asian manufacturing. It would be good and necessary for this trend to continue and for brands and consumers to be aware of all the benefits of these actions.

What is LIASA's positioning?

LIASA is a reference in the world of handle accessories, closures and decoration for luxury packaging and we are the European leader. Large manufacturers always take us into account in order to offer their brands innovative, quality and competitive products. They are also aware that, by collaborating with us, they have a partner who will offer them the latest trends, innovative products, at a good price and with a fast service.

Our products are used by major luxury brands; LVMH group (Louis Vuitton, Moët, Henessy, Veuve Clicquot, Loewe, Dior, Céline, Kenzo, Chaumet,

What are your short- and medium-term objectives?

As a family business, all our projects are thinking in the medium and long term and we are very clear that our greatest asset is our people. Our priority is to have a motivated, trained and proactive team. We are currently implementing a new production ERP and we are modifying the functional organization chart incorporating the figure of a supply manager. We are making these changes by listening to the opinions of our workers and promoting our team. We are 50 people and we have a fairly horizontal structure, but we are always thinking about how we can promote our workers and train them so that they can grow professionally and personally. In the definition of our values we are clear that customer orientation is achieved by working as a team, with commitment and a lot of passion.

Descarbonización y circularidad, claves para la industria papelera española Decarbonization and circularity, keys for the Spanish paper industry

42 TEMA CENTRAL I MAIN TOPIC La producción del sector papelero creció en su conjunto (celulosa + papel) un 6,5 % en 2021, según el Informe Anual del sector de la celulosa y el papel presentado por Aspapel en julio. La producción se sitúa en 6,7 millones de toneladas de papel y 1,8 millones de toneladas de celulosa, con un incremento en papel del 6,2 % y del 7,7 % en celulosa.

La producción en las sesenta y nueve fábricas papeleras españolas asciende a 6.658.900 toneladas de papel en 2021. Los papeles para cartón ondulado (3,69 millones de toneladas) suponen el 56 % de la producción total, seguidos de los papeles higiénicos y sanitarios (12 % y 0,81 millones de toneladas), los papeles gráficos para prensa e impresión y escritura (11 % y 0,74 millones de toneladas), otros envases y embalajes como sacos, bolsas, tubos, productos de celulosa moldeada, etc. (8 % y 0,55 millones de toneladas), los papeles especiales para muy diversas aplicaciones (con el 8 % y 0,54 millones de toneladas) y el cartón estucado (5 % y 0,32 millones de toneladas).

Todos los grandes grupos de papeles ven incrementada su producción en 2021. El mayor crecimiento lo experimentan los papeles especiales y los papeles gráficos que registran sendos incrementos del 15,9 %. A continuación se sitúan los papeles para cartón ondulado con un 5,1% y los papeles para otros envases y embalajes con un 4,6 %, los higiénicos y sanitarios con un 1,3 % y el cartón estucado con un 0,9%.

Asimismo todos ellos, salvo los papeles gráficos, se sitúan por encima de los niveles prepandemia.

Con un 7 % de la producción total europea, España es el sexto productor de papel de la UE, tras Alemania, Suecia, Italia, Finlandia y Francia.

En cuanto a la celulosa, la producción de las diez fábricas de celulosa en España creció en 2021 un 7,7 % hasta las 1.777.000 toneladas en 2021.

Con un 5 % de la producción europea, España es el quinto productor de celulosa de la UE, después de Suecia, Finlandia, Portugal y Alemania.

La producción de celulosa de mercado crece apenas el 0,2%, mientras la fabricación de celulosa integrada (para su autoconsumo en la misma fábrica) se incrementa el 22,8%. En ambos casos la producción se sitúa por encima de los niveles prepandemia.

del 14 % en 2020, crece en 2021 hasta situarse en 5.209 millones de euros, por encima de los niveles previos a la pandemia.

El empleo, que se había mantenido en 2020, crece en 2021 el 0,4 % y se sitúa en 16.705 empleos directos. En los últimos cinco años, el empleo se ha incrementado en un 2,6 %.

La bioindustria circular de la celulosa y el papel es el motor de una potente cadena de valor que supone el 18,5 % del empleo industrial. La innovación y la sostenibilidad son las dos características básicas de un sector en permanente renovación tecnológica, que ofrece empleo cualificado y estable y grandes posibilidades de desarrollo profesional.

Las empresas del sector trabajan en la atracción de talento y mantienen, por ejemplo, un programa de becas, destinado a los estudiantes del Máster Universitario en Tecnología Papelera y Gráfica de la Escuela de Ingenierías Industrial, Aeroespacial y Audiovisual de la UPC. También aumentaron las exportaciones, un 7,9 %, superando los niveles prepandemia, tras un crecimiento muy modesto de apenas un 0,9 % en 2020.

La UE continúa siendo el mayor mercado de exportación del papel (60 %) y la celulosa (73 %) producida en nuestro país. El resto de los países de la Unión Europea son el principal destino de las exportaciones españolas de celulosa y papel, fundamentalmente Alemania, Francia, Italia, y Portugal.

Las exportaciones al Reino Unido, ahora como país extracomunitario, han pasado a suponer el 9 % en el caso de la celulosa (tres puntos porcentuales más que en 2020), y el 5 % de las exportaciones de papel (un punto porcentual más que en 2020).

En los últimos cinco años, la industria de la celulosa y el papel ha realizado importantes inversiones que ascienden a 1.754 millones de euros (cerca del 8 % de su facturación), fundamentalmente en ampliaciones de capacidad y en renovación tecnológica e innovación.

Repercusiones del aumento de precios de la energía Sin embargo, en el primer cuatrimestre de 2022, la situación a corto plazo se complica por la escalada de precios de la energía y el aumento del coste de las materias primas y el transporte, lo que tiene su reflejo en un incremento de la producción de papel de apenas el 0,4 % y una caída en la celulosa del 8,3 %.

Según el último informe realizado por PPI Europe de junio de este año, el mercado del cartón se aceleró en el segundo trimestre con aumentos de precios adicionales debido a la inflación de los costes de las materias primas, unido a los cierres de fábricas debido a incendios y quiebras que pesaron mucho en el mercado de cartón estucado de fibra reciclada.

A este respecto, Aspapel pidió all Miterd un tratamiento retributivo para la cogeneración que reconozca el coste actual del gas. La industria papelera ofrece al gobierno contribuir al Plan de contingencia operando sus 876 MW de potencia instalada en cogeneración de alta eficiencia (2 % de la electricidad nacional), que consume un 30 % menos de gas que los ciclos combinados, lo que supondría un ahorro de 400 millones de euros al año en la factura energética nacional.

Para que ello sea posible, Aspapel solicita al Miterd un tratamiento retributivo de la cogeneración que reconozca el coste actual del gas y no obligue a la cogeneración a funcionar a pérdidas y parar su producción.

El 48 % (420 MW) de las cogeneraciones papeleras han entrado en parada en los últimos días por el coste de gas que soportan.

Un error regulatorio deja fuera del mecanismo de compensación de la excepción ibérica a las cogeneraciones industriales que cuentan con régimen retributivo. En junio una central eléctrica de ciclo combinado tuvo un precio de gas reconocido de 112 €/MWh frente a 50 €/MWh para una planta de cogeneración. Aspapel solicita la solución portuguesa (posibilidad de renuncia temporal de las instalaciones de cogeneración al régimen retributivo, permitiendo acogerse al ajuste) o bien complementar la retribución de la cogeneración para que por el mecanismo de ajuste tenga cubierto el coste real del gas.

Aumenta el porcentaje de papel reciclado Con la circularidad y descarbonización como ejes de actuación medioambientales de la industria de la celulosa y el papel en España, destaca el hecho de que las fábricas papeleras reciclan el 78 % del papel que consumimos, la promoción de la gestión forestal sostenible y su certificación, con el resultado de que el 65 % del papel puesto en el mercado está certificado, o el haber logrado desacoplar las emisiones de CO2 de la producción, reduciéndolas un 21 % en la última década y haber reducido el uso total de agua en el proceso de fabricación a menos de la mitad desde 1990, según la Actualización de la Memoria de Sostenibilidad del Papel editada por Aspapel.

En 2021, las diez fábricas de celulosa españolas, utilizaron como materia prima 5.451.400 m3 de madera para producir 1.777.000 toneladas de pastas papeleras. El consumo total de madera para papel se incrementa en 2021 un 2,2 % con respecto al ejercicio anterior.

Se trata de madera de especies de crecimiento rápido (eucalipto y pino) cultivada con esta finalidad en plantaciones, que se están continuamente regenerando y replantando y que de otro modo no existirían. La madera que utiliza como materia prima el sector papelero en España procede en un 95 % de estas plantaciones locales de pino y eucalipto (y el restante 5 % procede de plantaciones de otros países europeos limítrofes). En un alto y creciente porcentaje (58 %), se trata además de madera con certificación de gestión forestal sostenible (FSC y/o PEFC).

Tras su uso, los productos papeleros se recogen para su reciclaje a través de la recogida selectiva municipal y la recogida que realizan operadores privados en grandes superficies de distribución, industrias, imprentas… Por estos dos canales, en 2021 se han recogido 4.403.200 toneladas de papel y cartón para reciclar, un volumen ligeramente por encima del de 2020.

Las fábricas papeleras españolas han reciclado 5.354.800 toneladas de papel usado en 2021, con un incremento del 4,4 % con respecto al ejercicio anterior. España es el segundo país más reciclador de la UE en volumen, superado solo por Alemania y prácticamente empatado con Italia. Gracias a esta gran capacidad recicladora, la industria papelera española garantiza el reciclaje en nuestro país de todo el papel y cartón recogido selectivamente, que cumpla con los estándares europeos de calidad (norma europea UNE-EN 643).

44 TEMA CENTRAL I MAIN TOPIC superando ya en casi dos puntos el objetivo europeo para 2030 recientemente fijado por el European Recycling Council. Esto quiere decir que la industria papelera española recicló en 2021 casi el 78 % del papel que consumimos en nuestro país.

Además, en 2021 el uso total de agua en las fábricas españolas de celulosa y papel fue de 110 millones de m3 anuales, lo que supone la mitad de agua que en 1990, pese a que la producción se ha incrementado más un 60 % desde entonces.

Cabe señalar que del total de agua que se emplea en el proceso, solo se consume realmente una pequeña parte y el resto se devuelve depurada. De este modo, de los 110 millones de m3 de agua, utilizados por la industria papelera española en 2021 solo se consumió en realidad un 15 %. El 85 % restante (93 millones de m3) se devolvió depurada al medio receptor (ríos o lagos, mar, colectores municipales, estuarios), después de reutilizarse internamente el máximo número de veces posible.

También a lo largo de la última década se ha producido una importante mejora de la calidad de los vertidos en casi todos los indicadores, que se sitúan actualmente en los más altos estándares que permiten la Mejores Tecnologías Disponibles. El parámetro Demanda Química de Oxígeno (DQO) en 2021 ha descendido con respecto a 2012 un 62 % para la celulosa y se ha incrementado un 14 % para el papel. Los Sólidos en Suspensión (SST) han descendido un 56 % para la celulosa y un 33 % para el papel. Finalmente, los Compuestos Orgánicos Halogenados (AOX), el vertido específico de la producción de celulosa blanqueada, ha disminuido un 86 %.

En el ámbito de la descarbonización, las medidas de eficiencia energética, el uso de biomasa como combustible y la cogeneración son los tres pilares de la estrategia del sector en España en cuanto a reducción de emisiones. Con esta estrategia, las emisiones totales de CO2 se han reducido un 21 % con respecto a 2012 y las de SOx y NOx en un 83 % y un 40 % respectivamente.

Nuevas aplicaciones en packaging La sostenibilidad ha marcado también los lanzamientos de envases de papel y cartón. En el sector de la cosmética, Lumson presentó XPaper, el dispensador airless de papel que forma parte de la familia Touchless, envases airless con bolsas dotadas de un sistema de cierre hermético patentado por Lumson. La posibilidad de separar los componentes de plástico de los de papel, una vez agotado el producto que contiene, hace que el envase sea fácilmente reciclable y acorde con los principios de la economía circular.

Otro ejemplo curioso es un innovador envase para pelotas de golf de la marca Golf Coat Oy que, cuando está vacío, cobra una segunda vida como un hotel de insectos. El embalaje, creado por el taller de co-creación de Metsä Board, fue fabricado por PackageMedia Oy, parte de Pyroll Packaging, utilizando cartón plegable MetsäBoard Pro FBB Bright.

«Siempre aseguramos el origen de la fibra de madera que utilizamos y obtenemos madera solo de bosques gestionados de forma sostenible en los que se salvaguarda la renovación de los bosques y la biodiversidad. Nuestro objetivo es una tasa de certificación >90%. En 2021, el

83 % de la fibra de madera que utilizamos provino de bosques certificados. La sostenibilidad de nuestra cadena de suministro está asegurada con respecto a la madera y la fibra, así como otras materias primas y servicios»,, afirman desde Metsä Board.

En general, todas las firmas han incorporado a sus catálogos una oferta de papeles sostenibles. Por ejemplo, Grupo Seripafer lanzó su catálogo de packaging Ecolove, en el que la sostenibilidad es fundamental, ya que fabrican packaging sostenible diseñado totalmente a medida, partiendo del ecodiseño como propuesta principal. Disponen de una carta de materiales que abarcan desde plásticos 100 % reciclados y reciclables, cartulinas sostenibles FSC® y soportes ecológicos que provienen de residuos.

En alimentación y bebidas, las innovaciones se suceden, desde las anillas de cartón para latas que están sustituyendo a las de plástico rápidamente hasta los bricks sin aluminio. Alzamora Group, que cerró 2021 con la obtención de la certificación ISO 9001 y del ‘Sello de cálculo de huella de carbono’, fue pionera en envases sostenibles y alternativos al plástico con LatCub, el agrupador biodegradable para latas de bebidas.

Elopak lanzó Pure-Pak® eSense, un envase de cartón aséptico más sostenible fabricado sin capa de aluminio. La primera empresa que utilizará este envase es el fabricante español de bebidas García Carrión con su marca Don Simón. Pure-Pak® eSense está diseñado con papel de fuentes responsables, no contiene aluminio y, en su lugar, está fabricado con una barrera de mezcla de poliolefinas. Esto da como resultado una huella de carbono hasta un 50 % menor a la de un envase de cartón aséptico Pure-Pak® estándar. Sin capa de aluminio, el envase Pure-Pak® eSense es completamente renovable. También simplifica el proceso de reciclaje, ya que su nueva estructura de poliolefinas permite una separación de las fibras y las capas de poliolefina en un único paso, y esta nueva barrera no contiene elementos que rebajen su valor.

Gracias al trabajo del departamento del diseño e innovación y la implementación de su estrategia de sostenibilidad Now & Next, DS Smith ha logrado sustituir 9,5 millones de piezas de plásticos problemáticos por soluciones de packaging sostenible en cartón ondulado en el último año fiscal. Un claro ejemplo es Ecovete, una solución diferencial para el sector hortofrutícola, elaborada en cartón ondulado. Otro desarrollo relevante en el marco de la circularidad es Ultim-8, un nuevo embalaje que permite optimizar el consumo de fibra y los costes en cada eslabón de la cadena de suministro. Uno de sus últimos lanzamientos es un agrupador de botellas construido en cartón ondulado, denominado Frog.

Finalmente, uno de los ámbitos donde los envases de cartón han experimentado un auge es en el e-commerce. DS Smith también ha lanzado una solución de cajas que adaptan sus dimensiones a las necesidades de cada envío.

Destaca también Smurfit Kappa, que recientemente presentó eFlower, un novedoso portafolio de embalajes e-commerce totalmente personalizables, diseñado para el envío online de flores y plantas.

The production of the paper sector grew as a whole (pulp + paper) by 6.5% in 2021, according to the Annual Report of the pulp and paper sector presented by Aspapel in July. Production stood at 6.7 million tons of paper and 1.8 million tons of pulp, with an increase in paper of 6.2% and 7.7% in pulp.

Production in the sixty-nine Spanish paper mills amounts to 6,658,900 tons of paper in 2021.

Papers for corrugated board (3.69 million tons) account for 56 % of total production, followed by toilet and sanitary papers (12 % and 0.81 million tons), graphic papers for press and printing and writing (11 % and 0.74 million tons), other packaging such as sacks, bags, tubes, molded cellulose products, etc. (8 % and 0.55 million tons), special papers for a wide range of applications (8 % and 0.54 million tons) and coated paperboard (5 % and 0.32 million tons).

All the major paper groups will see their production increase in 2021. Specialty papers and

graphic papers recorded the highest growth, with increases of 15.9 % each. This was followed by paper for corrugated board with 5.1 %, paper for other containers and packaging with 4.6 %, hygienic and sanitary papers with 1.3 % and coated paperboard with 0.9 %.

Likewise, all of them, except for graphic papers, are above the pre-pandemic levels. With 7 % of total European production, Spain is the sixth largest paper producer in the EU, after Germany, Sweden, Italy, Finland and France.

As for pulp,the production of the ten pulp mills in Spain grew by 7.7 % in 2021 to 1,777,000 tons in 2021. With 5 % of European production, Spain is the fifth largest producer of pulp in the EU, after Sweden, Finland, Portugal and Germany.

The EU continues to be the largest export market for paper (60 %) and pulp (73 %) produced in our country. The rest of the European Union countries are the main destination for Spanish pulp and paper exports, mainly Germany, France, Italy and Portugal.

The production of market pulp grew by just 0.2%, while the production of integrated pulp (for self-consumption in the same mill) increased by 22.8%. In both cases, production is above pre-pandemic levels.

Exports to the United Kingdom, now as a nonEU country, have come to account for 9 % in the case of pulp (three percentage points more than in 2020), and 5 % of paper exports (one percentage point more than in 2020).

The sector's turnover in 2021, after a 14% drop in 2020, grows in 2021 to €5,209 million, above pre-pandemic levels.

In the last five years, the pulp and paper industry has made significant investments amounting to 1,754 million euros (around 8 % of its turnover), mainly in capacity expansions and in technological renewal and innovation.

Employment, which had held steady in 2020, grows in 2021 by 0.4 % to 16,705 direct jobs.

Over the past five years, employment has increased by 2.6 %.

The circular pulp and paper bioindustry is the engine of a powerful value chain that accounts for 18.5 % of industrial employment. Innovation and sustainability are the two basic characteristics of a sector in permanent technological renovation, which offers qualified and stable employment and great possibilities for professional development.

Companies in the sector are working to attract talent and maintain, for example, a scholarship program for students of the Master's Degree in Paper and Graphic Technology at the UPC's School of Industrial, Aerospace and Audiovisual Engineering.

Exports also increased, by 7.9 %, surpassing pre-pandemic levels, after a very modest growth of just 0.9 % in 2020.

Repercussions of the increase in energy prices However, in the first four months of 2022, the short-term situation is complicated by the escalation of energy prices and the increase in the cost of raw materials and transport, which is reflected in an increase in paper production of just 0.4 % and a fall in pulp of 8.3 %.

According to the latest report by PPI Europe in June this year, the paperboard market accelerated in the second quarter with additional price increases due to raw material cost inflation, coupled with mill closures due to fires and bankruptcies that weighed heavily on the recycled fiber coated paperboard market.

In this respect, Aspapel asked all Miterd for a retributive treatment for cogeneration that recognizes the current cost of gas. The paper industry offers the government to contribute to the Contingency Plan by operating its 876 MW of installed capacity in high-efficiency cogeneration (2 % of national electricity), which consumes 30 % less gas than combined cycles, which would mean a saving of 400 million euros a year in the national energy bill.

For this to be possible, Aspapel is asking the Miterd for a remuneration treatment for cogeneration that recognizes the current cost of gas and does not force cogeneration to operate at a loss and stop its production.

Increasing the percentage of recycled paper With circularity and decarbonization as the environmental pillars of action for the pulp and paper industry in Spain, the fact that paper mills recycle 78 % of the paper we consume, the promotion of sustainable forest management and its certification, with the result that 65 % of the paper placed on the market is certified, stand out, or having managed to decouple CO2 emissions from production, reducing them by 21 % in the last decade, and having reduced the total use of water in the manufacturing process by less than half since 1990, according to the Paper Sustainability Report Update published by Aspapel.

In fact, the recycling rate in Spain amounts to 77.6 %, already exceeding by almost two points the European target for 2030 recently set by the European Recycling Council. This means that the Spanish paper industry recycled in 2021 almost 78 % of the paper we consume in our country.

In 2021, the ten Spanish pulp mills used 5,451,400 m3 of wood as raw material to produce 1,777,000 tons of pulp. Total wood consumption for paper increased by 2.2% in 2021 compared to the previous year.

This is wood from fast-growing species (eucalyptus and pine) grown for this purpose in plantations, which are continually being regenerated and replanted and would not otherwise exist. The wood used as raw material by the paper industry in Spain comes 95% from these local pine and eucalyptus plantations (and the remaining 5% comes from plantations in other neighboring European countries). A high and growing percentage (58 %) of the wood is also certified as sustainable forest management (FSC and/or PEFC).

After use, paper products are collected for recycling through municipal selective collection and the collection carried out by private operators in large retail outlets, industries, printers... Through these two channels, 4,403,200 tons of paper

Spanish paper mills recycled 5,354,800 tons of waste paper in 2021, an increase of 4.4% over the previous year. Spain is the second largest recycler in the EU by volume, surpassed only by Germany and practically tied with Italy. Thanks to this great recycling capacity, the Spanish paper industry guarantees the recycling in our country of all paper and cardboard collected selectively, which complies with European quality standards (European standard UNE-EN 643).

Furthermore, in 2021 the total water use in Spanish pulp and paper mills was 110 million m3 per year, which is half the amount of water used in 1990, despite the fact that production has increased by more than 60 % since then.

It should be noted that of the total water used in the process, only a small part is actually consumed and the rest is returned treated. Thus, of the 110 million m3 of water, used by the Spanish paper industry in 2021 only 15% was actually consumed. The remaining 85% (93 million m3) was returned treated to the receiving environment (rivers or lakes, sea, municipal sewers, estuaries...), after being reused internally as many times as possible.

Over the last decade, there has also been a significant improvement in the quality of discharges in almost all indicators, which are currently at the highest standards allowed by the Best Available Technologies. The Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) parameter in 2021 has decreased compared to 2012 by 62 % for pulp and increased by 14 % for paper. Suspended Solids (TSS) decreased by 56 % for pulp and 33 % for paper.

Finally, Halogenated Organic Compounds (HOC), the specific discharge from bleached pulp production, decreased by 86 %.

In the area of decarbonization, energy efficiency measures, the use of biomass as fuel and cogeneration are the three pillars of the sector's stra-

Another curious example is an innovative packaging for golf balls from the Golf Coat Oy brand that, when empty, takes on a second life as an insect hotel. The packaging, created by the Metsä Board co-creation workshop, was manufactured by PackageMedia Oy, part of Pyroll Packaging, using MetsäBoard Pro FBB Bright folding cartonboard.

"We always ensure the origin of the wood fiber we use and source wood only from sustainably managed forests where forest renewal and biodiversity are safeguarded. Our target is a certification rate >90%. In 2021, 83 % of the wood fiber we used came from certified forests. The sustainability of our supply chain is assured with respect to wood and fiber, as well as other raw materials and services," Metsä Board says.

In general, all the firms have incorporated a sustainable paper offer into their catalogs. For example, Grupo Seripafer launched its Ecolove packaging catalog, in which sustainability is fundamental, as they manufacture sustainable packaging designed entirely to measure, based on eco-design as the main proposal. They have a range of materials ranging from 100% recycled and recyclable plastics, sustainable FSC® cardboard and ecological supports that come from waste.

In food and beverages, the innovations range from cardboard rings for cans, which are rapidly replacing plastic ones, to aluminum-free bricks. Alzamora Group, which closed 2021 by

obtaining ISO 9001 certification and the 'Carbon Footprint Calculation Seal', was a pioneer in sustainable packaging and alternatives to plastic with LatCub, the biodegradable grouper for beverage cans.

Elopak launched Pure-Pak® eSense, a more sustainable aseptic carton package made without an aluminum layer. The first company to use this package is Spanish beverage manufacturer García Carrión with its Don Simón brand. Pure-Pak® eSense is designed with responsibly sourced paper, contains no aluminum and is instead made from a barrier blend of polyolefins. This results in a carbon footprint up to 50% lower than that of a standard PurePak® aseptic carton. With no aluminum layer, Pure-Pak® eSense packaging is fully renewable. It also simplifies the recycling process, as its new polyolefin structure allows a separation of the fibers and polyolefin layers in a single step, and this new barrier contains no downgrading elements.

Mondi also surprised with a packaging for ready-to-eat salads. Mondi and Les Crudettes Vegetables Division of the LSDH Group won Gold at this year's Dow Packaging Innovation Awards for the use of FunctionalBarrier recyclable paper manufactured by Mondi.

Thanks to the work of the design and innovation department and the implementation of its Now & Next sustainability strategy, DS Smith has managed to replace 9.5 million pieces of problematic plastics with sustainable corrugated packaging solutions in the last fiscal year. A clear example is Ecovete, a differentiated corru-

gated solution for the fruit and vegetable sector.

Another relevant development within the framework of circularity is Ultim-8, a new packaging that optimizes fiber consumption and costs in each link of the supply chain. One of its latest launches is a bottle collator made of corrugated cardboard, called Frog.

In the cosmetics sector, Lumson presented XPaper, the paper airless dispenser that is part of the Touchless family, airless packaging with pouches equipped with an airtight closure system patented by Lumson. The possibility of separating the plastic components from the paper ones, once the product they contain has been used up, makes the packaging easily recyclable and in line with the principles of the circular economy.

Santiveri se preocupa por el cuidado y el bienestar desde hace más de 100 años. Con nueva imagen y logotipo, están en pleno proceso de transformación de la marca con Summa Branding. Explíquenos brevemente la historia de Santiveri. ¿Por qué fue un pionero?

En 1885, Jaime Santiveri Piniés, un comerciante de origen aragonés preocupado por el cuidado y el bienestar de las personas, abrió la primera tienda de productos naturales y dietética en España, sembrando la semilla de lo que después de más de 135 años sigue siendo la marca Santiveri. Por motivos de salud, Jaime era un gran conocedor de los sistemas de curación naturales, ya que él mismo había superado una grave enfermedad con este tipo de terapias. Así que, con empeño e ilusión, transformó su pequeño negocio textil del barrio gótico de Barcelona en una tienda pionera en la distribución de productos naturales para el cuidado de la salud.

Con el paso de los años, la tienda fue evolucionando, enfrentándose a crisis económicas y contiendas nacionales y mundiales, sin perder la fuerza y el anhelo de seguir creciendo. A día de hoy, y des-

pués de cinco generaciones, en Santiveri tenemos cerca de 7.000 puntos de venta en España y 183 tiendas, además exportamos nuestros productos a más de 40 países de todo el mundo y tenemos una filial en Italia. ¿Cuál es la filosofía de Santiveri?

En Santiveri, desde siempre, nuestra razón de ser es el cuidado y el bienestar de las personas.

Nuestro canal principal de ventas es el de tiendas especializadas, donde tenemos una gran presencia en herboristerías, tanto en nuestra gama de alimentos como de complementos nutricionales. Además, vendemos a supermercados e hipermercados muchos de nuestros productos de alimentación.

Santiveri es un grupo con presencia internacional. ¿Es España el país más importante? ¿En dónde cuentan con mejor posicionamiento?

exportamos a más de 40 países, siendo Italia, Arabia Saudí y México tres de los países más relevantes. ¿Cuáles son sus referencias estrella? ¿Es el Pan Dextrin una de ellas?

Sí, el Pan Dextrin es el buque insignia de la compañía. De hecho, estamos muy orgullosos de que sea el pan tostado líder en Cataluña.

En la categoría de alimentación, también tenemos muchos otros productos que nos funcionan muy bien, como nuestras galletas digestive 0 %, así como una gran variedad de tostadas y tortitas.

Por lo que respecta a complementos alimenticios, tenemos varios productos top ventas, como,nuestras cápsulas Sueño, el concentrado de Arándano rojo, nuestro colágeno líquido Artrosín o un laxante natural como Laxaloe.

Es una marca muy conocida, pero quizás menos para las generaciones más jóvenes. ¿Tienen prevista una nueva estrategia para ampliar su target?

Por esta razón, en 2021, iniciamos un proyecto de transformación de marca de la mano de Summa Branding, con el objetivo de definir el significado de Santiveri, su propuesta de valor, valores y su identidad en todos los sentidos para acercarla a las generaciones más jóvenes, pero sin perder a nuestra consumidora de siempre.

Todo esto, además, va acompañado de una nueva estrategia de comunicación y medios que también nos ayudará a conectar con aquellas audiencias que ahora nos quedan un poco más lejos.

Santiveri es una marca única porque se preocupa por el cuidado y el bienestar desde hace más de 100 años. Esta ha sido siempre nuestra voluntad y ahora ha llegado el momento de recuperar nuestro espacio y comunicarlo a todo el mundo.

En septiembre estrenan nueva imagen y nuevo logotipo. ¿Por qué han decidido cambiar y qué caracteriza esta nueva etapa? ¿Qué desean transmitir?

No solo estrenamos nueva imagen y logotipo. ¡Hemos transformado Santiveri!

Como decíamos, desde enero de 2021 estamos en pleno proceso de transformación de marca juntamente con Summa Branding.

En todo este tiempo hemos trabajado todo lo que tiene que ver con el significado de la marca Santiveri y, por lo tanto, el cambio de logotipo solo es una parte de este proyecto. Al definir nuestros valores, territorio y propósito, necesitábamos una marca que estuviera a la altura de los nuevos significados, y una marca que, sin perder su esencia

y reconocimiento, también resolviera las necesidades y retos a los que nos enfrentamos hoy en día; distintas aplicaciones, formatos, un sistema visual rico y completo, un tono de voz reconocible, etc.

Este proceso de “la nueva Santiveri” también nos ha servido para definir cómo podemos hacer realidad nuestro propósito, qué iniciativas deberíamos poner en marcha y cómo podemos ser una marca más honesta, más sencilla y atraer a más públicos. Y una parte es, por supuesto, la redefinición de nuestro logotipo, nuestras tiendas, el diseño de nuestros packs y, sobre todo, nuestra forma de acercarnos y conectar con las consumidoras.

Todo ello, además, sin perder nuestra esencia ni nuestra razón de ser. Hemos sido un “gigante dormido” durante mucho tiempo, y ha llegado el momento de despertar.

Al cambiar el logo, ¿piensan renovar el packaging de todo su catálogo de productos? ¿Será de forma progresiva?

Así es, el rediseño y renovación de todos nuestros packagins también forma parte de todo este proceso de transformación que estamos viviendo y que nos entusiasma.

El cambio de imagen en los lineales será de forma progresiva y el proceso ha sido empezar por aquellas referencias que son top ventas tanto en alimentación como en complementos alimenticios. Y poco a poco vamos avanzando con el resto.

De hecho, ya puedes encontrar algunos de nuestros packs en los lineales y, hasta ahora, ¡el feedback ha sido muy positivo! ¿Qué importancia conceden al packaging de sus productos? Además de su función principal, que es proteger al producto, ¿creen que es un medio de comunicación esencial con el consumidor?

Para cualquier marca de alimentación y gran consumo, el packaging es uno de sus touchpoints más importantes y relevantes. La guerra en el lineal es enorme y las personas tardan menos de 3 segundos en elegir qué producto quieren comprar, por lo tanto, necesitábamos unos packs muy potentes y únicos.

Para Santiveri, el pack es un elemento clave de comunicación, pero hay que definir qué le pedimos y qué no, porque no puede comunicarlo todo.

En nuestro caso teníamos claro que buscábamos claridad, reconocimiento de marca y apetitosidad para alimentación o comunicación del beneficio en complementos. Con el equipo de Summa Branding trabajamos primero de todo en una nueva arquitectura de front of pack que tuviera sentido

para todos los productos de Santiveri y que diera claridad y coherencia a nuestras más de 400 referencias. Definimos un brand block transversal para todos los productos para ser mucho más reconocibles en el lineal y tener una “mancha de marca” siempre igual que nos diera transversalidad. Y basándonos en esto, rediseñamos los packs pensando en una estructura que pudiera ser lo más monolítica posible en cualquier de las categorías de Santiveri.

El proyecto no ha sido sencillo, pero meses después hemos conseguido unos packs que cumplen con todo lo que queríamos; una estructura clara, apetitosidad/beneficio y visibilidad de marca. Y de hecho, así nos lo ha reconocido la consumidora, ya que en un test que hicimos nos confirmaron que hay una mayor intención de compra y más reconocimiento de marca versus los packs actuales. ¿Qué medidas están implementando para que sea más sostenible?

En Santiveri, apostamos por el cuidado de la salud y el bienestar integral de las personas. Y eso incluye el respeto y cuidado del planeta.

Utilizamos una gran variedad de materiales para envasar nuestros artículos (vidrio, plástico, metal, papel…) dependiendo de diferentes factores como: tipo de producto, necesidad de barreras físicas específicas para la conservación, línea de envasado, etc.

En referencia a los plásticos, nuestros envases y films son en más de un 80 % monomateriales, en principio, fácilmente reciclables (PET, PP, PE).

De todas formas, no nos conformamos con eso, y

En 2021, iniciamos un proyecto de transformación de marca de la mano de Summa Branding In 2021, we started a brand transformation project with Summa Branding

estamos llevando a cabo varios estudios para poder cambiar aquellos films en los que, por necesidades varias, hasta ahora no hemos encontrado la manera de mejorar la reciclabilidad.

Por otro lado, en los últimos años hemos eliminado el plástico superfluo (envoltorios externos) de los productos que lo llevaban. Por ejemplo, en los blísteres el cambio ya es 100 % efectivo y estamos trabajando en hacerlo real en las infusiones.

Eso ha significado, en algún caso, como por ejemplo en las infusiones, cambiar los estuches para que la seguridad del producto no resultase afectada.

También estamos reduciendo el gramaje de algunos de nuestros elementos de envase, previas pruebas para comprobar su buen funcionamiento en las diferentes líneas de producción, su idoneidad a nivel de seguridad alimentaria y asegurar que mantenemos los altos niveles de calidad que siempre exigimos a nuestros productos. ¿Tienen en cuenta la utilización de materiales reciclados y que a su vez sean reciclables?

A día de hoy, más del 90 % de nuestros estuches están fabricados en cartoncillo reciclado, y hemos cambiado nuestras bandejas de galletas de PVC a PET (mejorando la reciclabilidad) con un porcentaje de entre un 80 % y un 100 % de material reciclado, dependiendo de los modelos.

Nuestras cajas de embalaje también son en su mayoría de cartón reciclado, y en algunos casos tenemos el certificado FSC. Ahora mismo estamos mirando con nuestros proveedores de films plásticos la posibilidad de añadir un porcentaje de reciclado en las bobinas y demás envases de plástico. Hay que tener en cuenta que realizar este cambio supone un incremento en los precios de los materiales y un elevado coste en pruebas.

Respecto a los bricks de bebidas vegetales, el 80 % son biobased y con papel certificado FSC.

Los que nos quedan por cambiar, los tendremos en el mercado dentro de unos meses.

Como empresa no nos limitamos a un solo campo de mejora, estudiamos todas las oportunidades en las que creemos que podemos tener éxito, aunque a veces los resultados no son los esperados y tenemos que renunciar temporalmente a algunos proyectos de sostenibilidad en packaging, a la espera de que surjan nuevos materiales y/o mejoren los actuales sistemas de reciclaje. ¿Cuentan con alguna certificación?

Trabajamos con calidad FSC en papel y cartón siempre que es posible, y usamos en la medida de lo posible materiales reciclados. ¿Tienen previsto lanzar nuevos productos en este segundo semestre?

En los últimos meses, hemos lanzado al mercado nuevas referencias, tanto de alimentación como de complementos nutricionales.

Estamos especialmente satisfechos con las Galletas Doble Zero, un producto muy innovador, ya que son las únicas galletas para adultos en el mercado español sin azúcares añadidos y sin edulcorantes.

Además, en alimentación, también hemos lanzado unas nuevas tortitas bio con toppings.

Y en complementos alimenticios también somos muy activos, destacando el lanzamiento de la gama Cannabiactive Forte, que está compuesta por una crema con CBD y un complemento a base de PEA y aceite de cannabis. Son dos productos con ingredientes que ayudan a combatir el dolor músculo-articular.

También hemos lanzado Laxlino, un producto pensado para mejorar el tránsito intestinal. Y en octubre, lanzaremos Sueño Forte, destinado a favorecer no solo la calidad de las horas de sueño, sino también, la calidad de nuestros despertares. Con este lanzamiento, ampliamos nuestra gama destinada al descanso y la relajación, para ofrecer mejores soluciones y más completas a la consumidora.

Tell us briefly about the history of Santiveri. Why was it a pioneer?

In 1885, Jaime Santiveri Piniés, a merchant of Aragonese origin concerned about the care and well-being of people, opened the first natural products and dietetics store in Spain, sowing the seed of what after more than 135 years is still the Santiveri brand. For health reasons, Jaime was a great connoisseur of natural healing systems, as he himself had overcome a serious illness with this type of therapy. So, with determination and enthu-

siasm, he transformed his small textile business in the Gothic quarter of Barcelona into a pioneering store in the distribution of natural health care products.

Over the years, the store evolved, facing economic crises and national and global struggles, without losing the strength and desire to continue growing.

Today, and after five generations, Santiveri has close to 7,000 points of sale in Spain and 183 stores.

We also export our products to more than 40 countries around the world and have a subsidiary in Italy.

What is Santiveri's philosophy?

At Santiveri, our raison d'être has always been the care and well-being of people.

Your products are distributed in your own stores, health food stores, herbalist shops, supermarkets, online... How is your turnover distributed among the different channels?

Our main sales channel is specialized stores, where we have a large presence in herbalist shops, both in our range of foods and nutritional supplements. We also sell many of our food products to supermarkets and hypermarkets.

Santiveri is a group with an international presence. Is Spain the most important country, and where do you have the best positioning?

Yes, Spain is our country of reference, although we export to more than 40 countries, with Italy, Saudi Arabia and Mexico being three of the most relevant countries.

What are your star products, and is Dextrin Bread one of them?

Yes, Dextrin Bread is the company's flagship product. In fact, we are very proud that it is the lea-

ding toasted bread in Catalonia.

In the food category, we also have many other products that work very well for us, such as our 0% digestive cookies, as well as a wide variety of toasts and pancakes.

As far as food supplements are concerned, we have several top-selling products, such as our Sleep capsules, cranberry juice concentrate, our liquid collagen Artrosin or a natural laxative such as Laxaloe.

It is a well-known brand, but perhaps less so for the younger generations. Do you plan a new strategy to broaden your target?

For this reason, in 2021, we started a brand transformation project with Summa Branding, with the aim of defining the meaning of Santiveri, its value proposition, values and identity in all senses to bring it closer to the younger generations, but without losing our traditional consumer.

All this is also accompanied by a new communication and media strategy that will also help us to connect with those audiences that are now a little further away.

Santiveri is a unique brand because it has been concerned about care and wellness for more than 100 years. This has always been our will and now the time has come to recover our space and communicate it to everyone.

In September you are launching a new image and a new logo. Why did you decide to change and what characterizes this new phase? What do you want to convey?

We are not only launching a new image and logo, we have transformed Santiveri!

As we said, since January 2021 we are in the process of brand transformation together with Summa Branding.

Throughout this time we have worked on everything that has to do with the meaning of the Santiveri brand and, therefore, the logo change is only a part of this project. In defining our values, territory and purpose, we needed a brand that would live up to the new meanings, and a brand that, without losing its essence and recognition, would also solve the needs and challenges we face today; different applications, formats, a rich and complete visual system, a recognizable tone of voice, etc.

This process of "the new Santiveri" has also helped us to define how we can make our purpose a reality, what initiatives we should put in place and how we can be a more honest, simpler brand and attract more audiences. And one part is, of course, the redefinition of our logo, our stores, the design

of our packs and, above all, our way of approaching and connecting with consumers. All of this, moreover, without losing our essence or our raison d'être. We have been a "sleeping giant" for a long time, and the time has come to wake up.

When you change the logo, do you plan to renew the packaging of your entire product catalog? Will it be done progressively?

Yes, the redesign and renewal of all our packagins is also part of this whole transformation process that we are undergoing and that we are very excited about.

The change of image on the shelves will be progressive and the process has been to start with those references that are top sellers both in food and food supplements. And little by little we are moving forward with the rest.

In fact, you can already find some of our packs on the shelves and, so far, the feedback has been very positive!

How important is the packaging of your products? In addition to its main function, which is to protect the product, do you think it is an essential means of communication with the consumer?

For any food and FMCG brand, packaging is one of its most important and relevant touchpoints. The

war on the shelf is huge and people take less than 3 seconds to choose which product they want to buy, so we needed very powerful and unique packs.

For Santiveri, the pack is a key communication element, but we have to define what we ask for and what we don't, because we can't communicate everything. In our case, we were clear that we were looking for clarity, brand recognition and appetite appeal for food or benefit communication in supplements. With the Summa Branding team, we worked first of all on a new front-of-pack architecture that would make sense for all Santiveri products and that would give clarity and coherence to our more than 400 references. We defined a transversal brand block for all products to be much more recognizable on the shelf and have a "brand stain" always the same that would give us transversality. And based on this, we redesigned the packs thinking of a structure that could be as monolithic as possible in any of Santiveri's categories.

The project has not been easy, but months later we have achieved packs that meet everything we wanted; a clear structure, appetite/benefit and brand visibility. And in fact, this has been recognized by the consumer, since in a test we did we confirmed that there is a greater intention to buy

and more brand recognition versus the current packs.

What measures are you implementing to make it more sustainable?

At Santiveri, we are committed to caring for people's health and well-being. And that includes respect and care for the planet.

We use a wide variety of materials to package our products (glass, plastic, metal, paper...) depending on different factors such as: type of product, need for specific physical barriers for preservation, packaging line, etc.

Regarding plastics, more than 80% of our packaging and films are mono-materials, in principle, easily recyclable (pet, pp, pe).

However, we are not satisfied with that, and we are carrying out several studies to be able to change those films in which, for various reasons, we have not yet found a way to improve recyclability.

On the other hand, in recent years we have eliminated superfluous plastic (external packaging) from the products containing it. For example, in blister packs the change is already 100% effective and we are working on making it real in infusions.

This has meant, in some cases, as for example in infusions, changing the cases so that the safety of the product is not affected.

We are also reducing the grammage of some of our packaging elements, after tests to verify their proper functioning in the different production lines, their suitability in terms of food safety and to ensure that we maintain the high levels of quality that we always demand of our products.

Do they take into account the use of recycled materials recycled and recyclable materials?

As of today, more than 90% of our cases are made from recycled cardboard, and we have

changed our cookie trays from pvc to pet (improving recyclability) with a percentage of between 80% and 100% recycled material, depending on the models.

Our packaging boxes are also mostly recycled cardboard, and in some cases we are FSC certified.

We are currently discussing with our plastic film suppliers the possibility of adding a percentage of recycled material to reels and other plastic packaging. We have to bear in mind that making this change means an increase in the price of the materials and a high cost in testing.

With regard to vegetable beverage cartons, 80% are biobased and FSC-certified paper.

The ones we still have to change will be on the market in a few months.

As a company we do not limit ourselves to a single field of improvement, we study all the opportunities in which we believe we can be successful, although sometimes the results are not as expected and we have to temporarily give up some sustainability projects in packaging, while waiting for new materials to emerge and/or the current recycling systems to improve.

Do you have any certification?

We work with FSC quality in paper and cardboard whenever possible, and we use recycled materials as much as possible.

Do you plan to launch new products in the second half of the year?

We are particularly satisfied with the Double Zero Biscuits, a very innovative product, since they are the only cookies for adults on the Spanish market with no added sugars or sweeteners.

In addition, in food, we have also launched new organic pancakes with toppings.

And we are also very active in food supplements, highlighting the launch of the Cannabiactive Forte range, which consists of a cream with CBD and a supplement based on PEA and cannabis oil. These are two products with ingredients that help combat muscle and joint pain.

We have also launched Laxlino, a product designed to improve intestinal transit. And in October, we will launch Sueño Forte, designed to improve not only the quality of the hours we sleep, but also the quality of our awakenings. With this launch, we are expanding our range of products for rest and relaxation to offer consumers better and more complete solutions.

Además de las películas ‘comodities’, nos centramos en nuestra oferta de films especiales. A lo largo de los años hemos desarrollado una amplia cartera de productos que incluye PET transparente, de alta claridad, mate, metalizado, termosellable, pelable, alox, metalizado por transferencia, blanco, Barrera UV, etc.

En OPA ofrecemos varios espesores, especialidades y también films tratados químicamente.

¿Disponen de soluciones sostenibles?

Desde hace varios años venimos ofreciendo al mercado nuestra línea de productos rPET. Los artículos estándar mayormente contienen un 70 % de PostConsumer Recycled aunque se podría llegar hasta un 90 % en caso de que el cliente lo desee.

En especialidades podemos incluir contenido reciclado; por ejemplo, el Twist blanco un 50 %, los Pelables Antivaho un 60 %, el shrink film para sleeves hasta un 30 %... También disponemos de material en stock para una entrega rápida. Otra solución de sostenibilidad que ofrecemos es el ‘downgaging’ o reducción del espesor de los materiales. ¿Qué representa España para el Grupo TPL? What is TPL specialized in?

TPL is a leading Swiss company in the distribution of Pet, BOPA, Aluminium, Shrink films and OPP for more than 62 years. We operate a warehouse located in Antwerp (Belgium) where we hold approximately 14,000 tons of material and can supply our customers with a wide variety of films in a short period of time, providing security of supply.

Which products are most in demand?

In addition to commodity films, we focus on our speciality film. Over the years we have developed a broad product portfolio in PET that includes clear, high clarity, matte, metallized, heat sealable, peelable, alox, transfer metallized, white, UV barrier, etc. In OPA we offer various thicknesses, specialties and also chemically treated films.

Do you offer sustainable solutions?

We have been offering our rPET product line to the market for several years. The standard articles mostly contain 70 % Post-Consumer Recycled, although we can go up to 90 % if the customer wishes.

In specialties we can include recycled content, e.g. white Twist 50 %, anti-fog film up to 60 %, shrink film for sleeves up to 30 %... We also have material in stock for quick delivery. Another sustainability solution we offer is downgaging or reduction of material thickness.

What does Spain represent for the TPL Group?

A very diversified and prepared market, also very attentive to new developments.

Proyecto FIAD 2 El proyecto FIAD 2, o lo que es lo mismo “Fabricación Inteligente Aditiva a Demanda”, finalizará su fase de investigación y desarrollo, obteniendo resultados. Se trata de una iniciativa financiada por el Ministerio de Industria, Comercio y Turismo, en el programa de apoyo a las AEI –Agrupaciones Empresariales Innovadoras, que propone la integración de la tecnología de fabricación aditiva (impresión 3D) en el flujo de información productiva de una empresa.

Proyectos Projects

La idea surge a raíz de una sinergia establecida entre las empresas Addvance Manufacturing Technologies (Addvance) y TAI Smart Factory, ambas asociadas al Packaging Cluster, que detectaron una necesidad latente: un cambio estructural en el modelo de negocio actual que permita la gestión de los datos en fábrica de forma automatizada y conectada, optimizando el tiempo de manufactura, y la prueba y error.

Así, en el marco del Packaging Cluster, se entabló relación con un sector interconectado para ampliar el impacto de la propuesta, el de la impresión, de la mano de Functional Print Cluster, representante de cerca de 100 empresas y entidades del mundo de las artes gráficas en Navarra.

Gráficas Larrad, imprenta especializada y usuario final del proyecto, ha sido el escenario en el que Addvance y TAI Smart Factory, expertos tecnológicos, han podido integrar un nuevo sistema de gestión en fábrica, con el know-how del Centro Tecnológico Leitat y su circuito de impresoras 3D, que pudo validar la viabilidad del proyecto testeando con diferentes prototipos.

El primer paso fue definir junto a Gráficas Larrad todos los datos y requisitos que necesitaban cumplir como imprenta para recabar toda la información que después habría que automatizar para poder gestionarla.

Addvance y TAI Smart Factory desarrollaron un software con el que poder definir el producto con un catálogo en 3D, planificar la producción, ejecutar el proceso productivo y certificar su calidad, con los correspondientes informes de evaluación. Así, de forma remota, cualquier cliente de Gráficas Larrad podría hacer un pedido a su imprenta sin necesidad de intermediarios, de forma rápida y sencilla. Además, Addvance diseñó un inventario digital conectado con el centro de fabricación.

Por su parte, Leitat puso a disposición de Gráficas Larrad sus impresoras 3D conectadas al inventario de la imprenta, evaluando los diferentes escenarios y casos de usos. De esta manera, Leitat actúa como proveedor directo, imprime los nuevos productos de Gráficas Larrad en sus impresoras 3D y se las envía a fábrica para su puesta en marcha. La conexión establecida entre las impresoras y el sistema de pedido de Larrad ha sido efectuada gracias a los conocimientos de TAI Smart Factory.

La nueva solución permitirá digitalizar el proceso de fabricación de Gráficas Larrad, monitorizar y controlar sus datos, optimizar el tiempo evitando la prueba-error con el cliente y ampliar su cartera de proyectos de innovación, que se podrá replicar a otras muchas empresas del sector.

The FIAD 2 project, or "Intelligent Additive Manufacturing on Demand", will complete its research and development phase, obtaining the results of the project. Thus, within the framework of the Packaging Cluster, a relationship was established with an interconnected sector to broaden the impact of the proposal, that of printing, through the Functional Print Cluster, representative of nearly 100 companies and entities in the graphic arts world in Navarra.

Gráficas Larrad, specialized printing company and end user of the project, has been the scenario in which Addvance and TAI Smart Factory, technological experts, have been able to integrate a new factory management system, with the know-how of the Technological Center Leitat and its circuit of 3D printers, which was able to validate the feasibility of the project by testing with different prototypes.

The first step was to define together with Gráficas Larrad all the data and requirements they needed to meet as a printing company to collect all the information that would later have to be automated in order to manage it.

Addvance and TAI Smart Factory developed software to define the product with a 3D catalog, plan production, execute the production process and certify its quality, with the corresponding evaluation reports. Thus, remotely, any customer of Gráficas Larrad could place an order with their printing company without the need for intermediaries, quickly and easily. In addition, Addvance designed a digital inventory connected to the manufacturing center.

For its part, Leitat made available to Gráficas Larrad its 3D printers connected to the printing inventory, evaluating the different scenarios and use cases. In this way, Leitat acts as a direct supplier, prints the new products of Gráficas Larrad in its 3D printers and sends them to the factory for their start-up. The connection established between the printers and Larrad's order system has been carried out thanks to the know-how of TAI Smart Factory.

The new solution will allow Gráficas Larrad to digitize its manufacturing process, monitor and control its data, optimize time by avoiding trial and error with the customer and expand its portfolio of innovation projects, which can be replicated to many other companies in the sector.

El proyecto Servicontrol supondrá la automatización del sistema de manufactura para las pymes Industrias Plásticas Triana, Tepsis, E21 Design Technologies, Controlpack y el Packaging Cluster han investigado en los últimos meses cómo alcanzar una fabricación automatizada y conectada.

Borealis ha unido fuerzas con la empresa de helados Froneri (Finlandia) y Paccor (Alemania) para apoyar la transformación de la marca de helados Aino a una oferta sostenible. Los nuevos envases de Aino están moldeados en polipropileno (PP) Bornewables™ de Borealis, con materias primas renovables certificadas por balance de masas bajo el esquema International Sustainability & Carbon Certification Plus (ISCC PLUS).

La materia prima para el PP Bornewables de Borealis se deriva de flujos de biomasa, desechos y residuos de segunda generación. El contenido renovable está acreditado por balance de masa según ISCC PLUS, lo que facilita su trazabilidad desde la producción del material hasta la aplicación final. Los nuevos envases y tapas de helados Aino están moldeados por inyección de Bornewables PP por Paccor en un proceso integrado con decoración de etiquetado en molde, lo que también hace que este envase monomaterial sea 100 % reciclable.

Both companies intend to respond to the high demand for more sustainable and low-emission products in the European market. Customers will have access to resource-efficient solutions, derived from non-food crop biomass, with which they can reduce their carbon footprint.

The raw material for Borealis PP Bornewables is derived from second generation biomass, waste and residue streams. The renewable content is accredited by mass balance according to ISCC PLUS, which facilitates its traceability from the production of the material to the final application. The new Aino ice cream containers and lids are injection molded from Bornewables PP by Paccor in an integrated process with in-mold label decoration, which also makes this mono-material container 100% recyclable.

The 34th Luxe Pack Monaco trade fair will be host from the 3 to the 5 October. The key players in luxury packaging are in attendance, but there are also designers, manufacturers of packs, as well as specialists in decorative finishing, 3D printing and promotional items.

More than 450 international exhibitors will be present at this edition.

The trade fair’s exhibition of packaging is complemented by a digital section with its own dedicated space: the Digital Village located in the Atrium that gives an overview of the latest digital, smart solutions for luxury packaging.

A particular feature of the fair is the Luxe Pack

Formulation Room devoted to formulation and all-round services. It will allow beauty professionals to find their packaging and formula suppliers in one place.

The conference programme will cover all kind of issues with interventions from experts and pioneering brands in these areas, such as Remy Cointreau, Cartier Parfums, Coty, Chanel, Veuve Clicquot and more.

They will be over 50 speakers to appear at the event. The content will be structured around five main pillars: Going Big: trends and forecasts, Going Green: towards circularity, Going to Customers: packaging for new markets, new customers and consumer behaviours, Going Local: transition to virtuous sourcing models and Going Disruptive: materials and technology.

Again, Luxe pack in Green Award will be hosted, a benchmark promoting the best ethical solutions and initiatives from the exhibitors. They have received a record 73 entries. Exhibition space, dedicated conferences, and awards ceremonies are all means by which visitors can effectively gauge the ecological trends under way around the world.

¿Por qué se hizo diseñador?

Un poco por casualidades de la vida, soy de diciembre, ya sabes eso de los niños de final de año que van más lentos en la escuela, pues sí, yo siempre he ido a remolque. Nunca fui un estudiante brillante.

Al terminar la EGB no sabía qué hacer y deambulé por arquitectura, bellas artes y finalmente acabé en gráfica publicitaria, donde encontré algún tipo de estímulo y me parecía divertido eso de ser diseñador. ¿Cuándo y por qué se creó Bulldog Studio?

En diciembre del 2007 empecé como diseñador freelance con el nombre de Bulldog Studio, a pesar que la sociedad se constituyó algo más tarde, este año cumplimos 15 años, ¡y seguimos!

Trabajé en agencia de publicidad grande, en agencia de medios, en imprenta y también en cliente (como director de arte). Vi que mi trabajo podía hacerse de otra manera, mucho más creativa y mejor remunerada, y ello me empujó a trabajar por mi cuenta.

Ya el crecimiento de la empresa es algo inevitable, vas creciendo a medida que abres nuevos clientes y vas modulando tu empresa y espacio a ello.

Están especializados en packaging y branding. ¿Qué caracteriza al diseño de envases?

Al inicio hacíamos de todo, un todoterreno del diseño, pero siempre he creído en la especialización, por lo que en las áreas que más cómodos nos sentimos son estas. Venimos del gran consumo, así que la agilidad en interpretar un briefing es máxima, y gracias a nuestro equipo y experiencia, sabemos

encontrar la excelencia en impresión de todo lo que enseñamos en pantalla.

No creo que tengamos un perfil o estilo marcado, sí que es cierto que nos gusta trabajar con volúmenes y texturas en nuestros diseños, pero pienso que tenemos un perfil elástico que se adapta a las necesidades de cada cliente y marca. ¿Es qué se diferencia trabajar para el sector de gran consumo, gourmet o farmacéutico?

Son sectores muy diferentes en todos los aspectos, en velocidad de las necesidades, los costes de impresión e incluso en la manera de comunicarte, tanto con el consumidor como con tu cliente.

GC es como la fórmula 1, todo es para ya, en producción gourmet suelen ser empresas más pequeñas o familiares, por lo que el acompañamiento del cliente es vital para aportarle seguridad en las decisiones y, en farmacia, los proyectos se dilatan mucho en el tiempo y van muy focalizados a conseguir un objetivo concreto.

Cada sector es diferente, pero todos nos apasionan y nos movemos en ellos de manera natural. ¿Qué medidas está implementando a favor de un packaging más sostenible? ¡Aquí has tocado la llaga! Tratamos siempre de ser sostenibles en la producción, a todos los clientes les explicamos la importancia del uso de papeles FSC o 100 % reciclados, tintas vegetales, etc. Pero el dinero es el que manda.

En todos nuestros proyectos intentamos

asesorar al cliente, desde la selección de botellería/frasco ligero (menos emisiones en transporte) hasta los recursos en paletizado. ¿Qué es lo más importante a la hora de diseñar una etiqueta: la tipografía, la ilustración…?

tienes tres ojos serás “raro”, es encontrar siempre el equilibrio perfecto, esa armonía que hace que una etiqueta “funcione”.

Háblenos de dos de sus proyectos.

Ahora mismo tenemos un proyecto muy grande en marcha, desde hace meses estamos trabajando con Félix Solis un restyling completo de una de sus marcas, Peñasol.

Es un proyecto muy difícil, muchos formatos, muchos países y hay que mirarlo todo con lupa.

Por suerte esta saliendo todo perfecto y nos sentimos muy cómodos con el proyecto y con el cliente.

Otro proyecto interesante fue el que publicamos hace semanas, para una pequeña bodega de Ribeira Sacra, EDV. Una familia que nunca había “hecho marketing” y les hemos construido todo el portafolio.

En su opinión, ¿en qué situación se encuentra el sector del diseño en España? ¿Cuáles son los problemas a los que se enfrenta? ¿Y sus logros?

El diseño en España no está valorado, tu trabajas para clientes de fuera y te sientes valorado, te escuchan y te pagan bien.

Creo que si esto lo lee un diseñador pensará; ostras qué razón tiene. Aquí la gente no escucha (en su mayoría), te pasan un briefing pero acaban decidiendo ellos el diseño.

Principales logros, que nos escuchen, que se dejen asesorar (que para eso nos pagan). ¿De qué modo están influyendo las nuevas tecnologías en el diseño?

La tecnología con buen uso siempre está bien y suma, a nivel de estudio no notamos en exceso esa tecnología, pues somos “off-line”.

Entre los servicios que ofrecen, ¿cuáles tienen más demanda? ¿Está creciendo más el mundo digital?

El 90 % de nuestra facturación es packaging, estamos trabajando para crecer en branding (que es otro de nuestros fuertes) y en servicios de naming.

Lo comentado anteriormente, al posicionarnos hace unos años en packaging y branding, el mercado nos adopta como tal, por lo que proyectos de digital entran bien pocos. No es que no los hagamos, pero son residuales.

¿Puede avanzarnos en qué está trabajando en estos momentos?

Un par de proyectos de restyling de fármacos, varios proyectos de vino, un proyecto súper bonito (que verá la luz hacia final de año) de un vermuth para Italia y una colaboración con una bodega en Rumania, un proyecto de larga duración con muchas marcas implicadas.

Visto en tres líneas parece poco, pero esto junto al día a día de pequeñas cosas de clientes, es un no parar, ¡y que siga por muchos años más!

Why did you become a designer?

What characterizes packaging design?

At the beginning we did everything, a design all-rounder, but I have always believed in specialization, so these are the areas that we feel most comfortable with. We come from mass consumption, so the agility in interpreting a briefing is maximum, and thanks to our team and experience, we know how to find excellence in printing everything we show on screen.

I don't think we have a defined profile or style, it is true that we like to work with volumes and textures in our designs, but I think we have an elastic profile that adapts to the needs of each client and brand.

What is the difference between working for the consumer goods, gourmet or pharmaceutical sector?

They are very different sectors in all aspects, in speed of needs, printing costs and even in the way you communicate, both with the consumer and with your client.

GC is like formula 1, everything is for now, in gourmet production they are usually smaller or family-owned companies, so customer support is vital to provide security in decisions and, in pharmacy, projects are very long in the time and are very focused on achieving a specific objective.

Each sector is different, but we are all passionate about it and we move in it naturally.

What measures are you implementing in favor of a more sustainable packaging?

Here you have touched the wound! We always try to be sustainable in production, we explain to all clients the importance of using FSC or 100% recycled papers, vegetable inks, etc. But the money is what rules.

In all our projects we try to advise the client, from the selection of bottles/light bottles (less emissions in transport) to palletizing resources.

What is the most important thing when designing a label: typography, illustration...?

The whole, the concept, the typographical selection, the color, the illustration and its dialogue.

If you have perfect proportions but you have three eyes you will be “weird”, it is always finding the perfect balance, that harmony that makes a label “work”.

Tell us about two of your projects.

Right now we have a very big project underway, for months we have been working with Félix Solis on a complete restyling of one of his brands, Peñasol.

It is a very difficult project, many formats, many countries and you have to look at everything with a magnifying glass. Luckily everything is going perfectly and we feel very comfortable with the project and with the client.

Another interesting project was the one we published weeks ago, for a small Ribeira Sacra winery, EDV. A family that had never "done marketing" and we have built the entire portfolio for them.

In your opinion, what is the situation of the design sector in Spain? What are the problems you are facing? And his achievements?

Design in Spain is not valued, you work for foreign clients and you feel valued, they listen to you and they pay you well.

I think if a designer reads this they will think; oysters what reason you have. Here people don't listen (for the most part), they give you a briefing but they end up deciding on the design.

Main achievements, that they listen to us, that they allow themselves to be advised (that's what they pay us for).

How are new technologies influencing design?

Technology with good use is always good and adds up, at the study level we do not notice this technology in excess, since we are "off-line".

Among the services you offer, which ones are most in demand? Is the digital world growing more?

working to grow in branding (which is another of our strengths) and in naming services.

As mentioned above, by positioning ourselves a few years ago in packaging and branding, the market adopts us as such, so very few digital projects enter. It's not that we don't do them, but they are residual.

Can you tell us what you are currently working on?

A couple of drug restyling projects, several wine projects, a super nice project (which will be released towards the end of the year) of a vermouth for Italy and a collaboration with a winery in Romania, a long-term project with many brands involved. Seen in three lines, it seems little, but this, together with the day-today small things of clients, is non-stop, and may it continue for many more years!

Para Signature de Oriflame Suecia, Butterfly Cannon diseñó un frasco de vidrio atemporal que se encajó en un marco de madera contemporáneo, que puede ser retirado y reutilizado como marco de fotos. Los frascos y los packs exteriores se diseñaron con paneles en relieve y grabados. El marco de madera se obtuvo de manera responsable y se diseñó para un ajuste por fricción sin pegamento ni imanes. Esta construcción de un solo material aseguró una fácil separación del frasco para su reciclaje y reutilización. Si bien son de diferentes tamaños, los envases de las fragancias femenina y masculina se diseñaron para encajar dentro de un marco y un tamaño de pack comunes, lo que permite ahorrar recursos.

ORIFLAME. For Oriflame Sweden's Signature, Butterfly Cannon designed a timeless glass jar that was fitted into a contemporary wooden frame, which can be removed and reused as a photo frame. The bottles and outer packs were designed with embossed and engraved panels. The wooden frame is responsibly sourced and designed for a friction fit without glue or magnets. This single material construction ensured easy separation of the bottle for recycling and reuse. Although they come in different sizes, the feminine and masculine fragrance packs were designed to fit within a common frame and pack size, saving resources

CONCRETE MOB BEAUTY. Concrete creó una identidad de marca y un sistema de packaging reutilizable y ecológico para MOB Beauty. Creada por los ex fundadores de MAC Cosmetics, la línea es una colección de paletas de colores personalizables y recargables. Cada una está hecha con al menos un 50 % de contenido de PET reciclado posconsumo, con el objetivo de alcanzar el 100 % en el desarrollo. Para el embalaje secundario, en lugar de las típicas cajas, se utilizan clamshells compactos hechos de bambú y cajas de cartón corrugado 100 % recicladas posconsumo. MOB BEAUTY. Concrete created a brand identity and eco-friendly reusable packaging system for MOB Beauty. Created by the former founders of MAC Cosmetics, the line is a collection of customizable and refillable color palettes. Each is made with at least 50% postconsumer recycled PET content, with a goal of 100% in development.

For secondary packaging, instead of typical boxes, compact clamshells made from bamboo and 100% post-consumer recycled corrugated cardboard boxes are used. Dieline 2022 Best of Sustainability Award.

LA ANTIGUA SUMMUM 2022. El packaging para este queso de Quesería La Antigua recuerda a los productos que podías encontrar en los años 50 en una lechería tradicional. Para el queso entero, en cuñas y loncheados, crearon una lechera que es el contenedor, un trabajo muy técnico y complejo que utiliza la misma lechera para todos los productos y cambia una cuna interior que se amolda a cada uno. Para las 2 cuñas de 250 g, crearon una lata simulando las latas de leche condensada de los años 60, con una cinta de raso que sirve como colgador. También diseñaron los packagings para los blísters de queso cortado y una botella de leche.

LA ANTIGUA SUMMUM 2022. The packaging for this cheese from Quesería La Antigua is reminiscent of the products that you could find in the 50s in a traditional dairy. For the whole cheese, in wedges and sliced, they created a milk churn that is the container, a very technical and complex job that uses the same milk churn for all the products and changes an interior cradle that adapts to each one.

For the 2 wedges of 250 g, they created a can simulating the condensed milk cans of the 60s, with a satin ribbon that serves as a hanger. They also designed the packaging for the sliced cheese blisters and a bottle of milk.

JAVIER GARDUÑO JAVIER GARDUÑO EL ALMA DE GILDO. El vino Alma de Gildo es un homenaje a Hermenegildo García, uno de los viticultores más sabios de la ciudad de Toro que justo acaba de cumplir 100 años.

Para el concepto, el estudio de diseño Javier Garduño se basó en la idea de que el alma es una cosa que está pero no se ve, se tiene que descubrir como sucede en la etiqueta. Mediante un complejo troquelado formaron un «pop up» que, si se levanta, se acaba de leer el nombre completo del vino.

En la etiqueta también aparece una poesía en golpe en seco que escribió el propio Gildo y, para cerrar la botella, se usó un lacre blanco con terminación en diagonal que acentúa el formato premium que tiene este exclusivo vino.

EL ALMA DE GILDO. El Alma de Gildo is a tribute wine to Hermenegildo García, one of the wisest viticulturists in the city of Toro who has just turned 100 years old.

LAZY SNAIL DESIGN ENA KARO. Ena Karo en Tinos, Grecia, es un pequeño taller que produce jabones naturales y artículos de tocador. Para el rediseño del packaging de la marca, se buscó un equilibrio visual entre el aspecto orgánico de los ingredientes y un estricto sentido del orden. Aplicando la estética griega minimalista y las ilustraciones de las materias primas de los productos junto con materiales simples y ligeros, el packaging refleja la producción sostenible y la narración del producto. SIMIL TURMEON. Pep Bernat Vizcaya y Ainhoa Nicolau Salas diseñaron el envase del vermut de Turmeon. El sistema de colores vintage, combinado con un intrincado emparejamiento tipográfico, crea un diseño inesperado que diferencia a esta marca premium de las botellas tradicionales. Los patrones de colores, los detalles y las láminas retratan el lado divertido de la marca sin dejar de transmitir la calidad del producto en sí. Las etiquetas combinan un fuerte impacto visual con un aspecto moderno y artístico para crear un producto único y distintivo.

La gama se compone de dos vermuts, el Turmeon Classic y el Turmeon Zero, con los mismos ingredientes botánicos y el mismo sabor que el Turmeon Classic, pero con cero azúcar y la mitad de calorías.

TURMEON. Pep Bernat Vizcaya and Ainhoa Nicolau Salas designed the packaging for Turmeon's vermouth. The vintage color system, combined with an intricate typographic pairing, creates an unexpected design that sets this premium brand apart from traditional bottles. The color patterns, details and foils portray the fun side of the brand while still conveying the quality of the product itself. The labels combine a strong visual impact with a modern, artistic look to create a unique and distinctive product.

The range consists of two vermouths, Turmeon Classic and Turmeon Zero, with the same botanicals and taste as Turmeon Classic, but with zero sugar and half the calories.
