FOR THE LOVE OF POD // Anna Bogutskaya
THE AUTHOR, CRITIC, FILM PROGRAMMER AND PODCASTER PICKS OUT HER CURRENT TOP 5 SHOWS...
THE LOLITA PODCAST
I could easily add any of the Loftus audio oeuvre here but I keep coming back to this one. A ten-episode, one-woman exploration of the cultural footprint of Nabokov's Lolita, it is the best piece of cultural criticism I've encountered in any medium.
THIS ENDS AT PROM
Wives BJ and Harmony Colangelo revisit and analyse beloved teen girl movies from the perspective of cis and trans womanhood. They're smart, incredibly funny, insightful and warm chat challenges our nostalgia about the movies we all remember.
STILL PROCESSING
Inactive for a while now, I often still revisit old episodes of this New York Times culture podcast helmed by two of the most incisive critics working today. They cover books, movies, TV. No episode has the exact same format, but their insights are always incredible to listen to.
MAINTENANCE PHASE
Journalist Hobbes (of You're Wrong About fame) and author and fat activist Gordon tackle the wellness industries, health, scammers, media and more. Each episode is deeply researched, very accessible and absolutely hilarious. Come for the extreme researching, stay for the banter.
YOU MUST REMEMBER THIS
I've been listening to this podcast since the very beginning, almost a decade ago, and it blew my mind wide open about what film criticism, history and audio could do together.
