Nurse April

Q:Whatisyourfavoritepartofyourjob?

A: The students and staff!

Q:Whataresomecommonhealthissuesstudentscometoyoufor?

A: Probably about 80% come for ice for various reasons, 10% for bandaids, and the last 10% can be anything from a broken bone to fevers and coughs. I even once had a student with a snake bite! He knows who he is! :)

Q:Doyouwantthestudentstocometoyouotherthanhealth?

A: Tricky question! I LOVE to see and get to know all of the students. I enjoy a drop in hello, but when I am busy with a lot of students in my office, I need to be available only to those who need me. My office is definitely not a hang out spot.

Q:Howdidyougettowhereyouarenow?

A: I started out in commercial food service, then went to daycare and back to food service, but the loud noises were making me lose my hearing faster, so I went back to school in my 50's to become a nurse.

Q: What year did you start at Jack london/POCS?

A: I THINK I started at Olivet in Jan. 2012 or 13, then came to JL/POCS the following August.

Q: Why did you want to be a nurse?

A: For a quieter work environment... and I LOVE PEOPLE!

Q: What are the Pros & Cons of your job?

A: The Pros are easy....getting to see the students and staff, and getting to work with such great people. the cons, the only thing I can think of is that it's hard to find a replacement when I get sick.

Q: Would you like to be more than a school nurse one day?

A: MORE than....???? I think of this as THE BEST JOB EVER! When I retire, I plan to be able to volunteer my skills more. Maybe work with Red Cross Relief, and go to help where disasters happen.

Q: Is being a nurse hard?

A: No, as I said before, I love people, and kids and I love helping others!

Q: Whats the easiest part about your job?

A: Loving and getting to take care of all of the students and staff!

BlancaE: In case of emergancy. If someone gets hurt, she’ll be there.

Ms.Sawyer: It ensures the safety of all of our students and allows for a professional to take of students.

★ Why do you feel safe around Nurse April?

CamillaP: Because she comforts me when I’m sick and she’ll call my parents when I need them.

AddisonH: Because she’s very gentle with us and her space is comforting. I feel safe in her office.

BlancaE: Because she just feels like a safe person to be around.

Ms.Sawyer: Because I know she is an expert in her field and can provide myself and students with the attention we need.
