Rickey the Rat

Have you seen Rickey around campus? Were you here last year to witness the rise and fall of our beloved rat? That’s right, Rickey the Ratisbackandstrongerthanever.

Rickey the Rat was made in Art Class in the first trimester of 2021. Last year, he became a campus-wide sensation since thousands of copies were printed out and given to people around the school, along with getting taped to manysurfaces.Hehasreturnedthisyear.

The Rickey the Rat iceberg goes extremely deep, but in summary, Rickey the Rat is a rat that’s the brother of Mickey the Mouse. Mickey is his rival because he was betrayed by him and started scamming people as well as committingmultiplecrimessuchastaxevasion, first-degreemurder,etc.Rickeywasagainstthis scamming from his brother. Nobody knows whathappenedtoMickey.

Many people hate Rickey for no reason. Thereisnoreasontohatehimifyouignorethe suspicious attitude. He is a ruler, and last year he attempted to become the school mascot but unfortunately, hecouldnotbecauseofunknown circumstances.Butimaginetheschoolwithhim as a mascot; the color scheme turning to white, red, and black. It would be the ideal school situationformany.

I regret writing this article. I don't know why I was allowed to make this. Anyways, do youhavetherareChristmasRickey?Alimited

number of copies were made of it. Do you have Emo Rickey? Only one copy was made and I don’tevenknowwhereitwentbutIdon’thave it; it was lost to time. An estimate of 4,847 copiesofRickeyweremade.Doyouhaveone?

Many people have been calling him the wrong names, such as “Mickey Mouse” and “Mickey Rat”. Those are not his names. Do not addresshimassuch.

Rickey will make a return this year. He will appear more to those who dislike him. He is an unavoidable life force, just like gravity. Respecthim.

Aprilfools!!!

The first day of April is April Fools Day, which is a holiday celebrated by many all around the world. It is considered to be the world’s longest-running joke. But the truth is, nobody really knows how it began. However, many historians have some clues on what might have startedit.

Somehistoriansbelievethatitstartedinthe 16th century when France switched its calendar from Julian to Gregorian. The Julian calendar started in Spring, while in the Gregorian calendar, the new year would start on January first. Since news did not travel quickly back then, not many knewaboutthechangeof

Some pranks played on these people included having a paper fish put on a person’s back called an April Fish. In 1561, Eduard de Denemadeapoemaboutanoblemansendinghis servant to do a bunch of crazy tasks. The servant soonrealizesthattheseare“fool’serrands”since the date was April 1st. Scholars say that one of the first mentions of April Fools Day was in a book called Remaines of Gentilisme and Judaisme writtenbyJohnAubrey, whichsays:“Weobserve it on the first of April. And so, it is kept in Germanyeverywhere.”

So, nobody knows for sure how April Fools Day started, although there is a lot of speculation around it. But it is still celebrated annuallyaroundtheworldtothisdaydespitethe unknownoriginoftheholiday.

Ferrets are wonderful critters. Instead of getting your friend a usual household pet for their birthday, you should get them a silly, fuzzy ferret.

- The average lifespan of a domesticated ferret is 8 years, which is 252,455,408 seconds withyoursillycritter

He started this day to encourage people to remember that this is our only earth and that we should respect it. He was also the governor ofWisconsin.

One example to celebrate earth day couldbetosupportour pollinators, which include bees, bats, birds, and butterflies. You can support them by planting some plants that attract pollinators. You could alsopracticethehabits that help to reduce, reuse, andrecycle.

Refraining from the use of poison and pesticides is also very helpful to the earth and pollinators. Another thing you coulddoisvolunteerat the food bank to help reduce food waste and feed the hungry. You could organize a park or beach cleanup with your friends and family. Don’t forget to tryandconservewater!

There are also ways to celebrate earth day in the community here in Santa Rosa. One is to attend the Earth Day Festival in downtown Santa Rosa from 12 to 4 pm. The festival is free and for allages.Thereisalsoa Sunset Beach Earth Day Cleanup in Forestville from 10 am to 12 pm. Bring your friendstogetahelping hand to clean the beach along our Russian River. Orthodox Easter

Do you know what Orthodox Easter is? Well, now you'll learn more! Orthodox Easter is celebrated onSunday,April16,2023.Duetothe

Julian Calendar used to determine holy days, Orthodox Easter will always occur between April 4th and May 8th each year. There are many different names for this holiday. These names are Orthodox Easter, Greek Orthodox Easter, and Pascha! Orthodox Easter is celebrated in the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate Church, Russian Orthodox Church, and the Greek Hellenic Orthodox Church. It's also celebrated among other smaller churches. Other countries also celebrate this holiday, such as Lebanon, Greece, Cyprus, Romania, Ukraine, Russia, and Bulgaria.

Orthodox Easter celebrates theresurrectionofJesusonthethird day following his crucifixion on Orthodox Good Friday. Orthodox Easter concludes the “Great Lent” with 40 days of fasting. During the days leading up to Orthodox Easter, there is an important religious feast knownasSarakosti,representing40

days of Great Lent. Sarakosti takes place from February 27 through April 14th, 2023. The first day of Great Lent is known as Clean Monday. Clean Monday starts with a bow down to ask for forgiveness. Clean Monday starts the Great Lent with forgiveness, restored Christian love, and a clean conscience. During Sarakosti, people withhold from eating dairy, meat, or fish ( excluding other seafood). The purpose of Great Lent is to enter into the passion and resurrection of Jesus. Great Lent ends on Lazarus Saturday, which is believed to be when Jesus resurrected Lazarus from the dead. Although Greek OrthodoxEasterandOrthodox Easter are very similar, the individual celebrations may be different.Thismay includeothertimesof fasting, differentsymbols, aswellasdifferent services.

Essentially, OrthodoxEaster,like regularEaster,

celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ & the gift of eternallifeafterdeath.I hope now you know more about Orthodox Easter and the events thattakeplaceinthe40 days!

Teacher

Q: Why did you start teachingrobotics?

A: I wanted to teach to a lot of students basic proceduresandIwantedto bring robotics to POCS because we try to give students practical skills for the future and I believe that Robotics is the future. Robots are going to become very common in the class and if you’re understanding how they work and understanding how coding works, you can applyittothefuture.Itcan help prepare students that might eventually work in robotics either in designing them, building them or maintaining them. This class is a combination of something fun but also sortofpractical.

Q: How do you think it is goingsofar?

A: I think it's going well so far. I think students seem interested. Like you can look aroundandeveryoneseemsto be pretty engaged with what they're doing right now, they're building their first robot so I think people are pretty excited and yeah, I thinkit'llbeaprettyfunclass now.

Q: What are your expectations for the studentsinthisclass?

A: My expectations are for students to be open-minded, to try their hardest, to not give up, I want them to persevere, have fun and take goodnotes.

Q: How are your students treatingyou?

A: Overall really good, students are treating me fine, I think a lot of the students are kind of getting to know a little bit more about the class and so everyone's really starting to loosen up and relax and it should be a really good trimester for our first one.

Field Trip Survey

We asked kids around campus about what field trips they would want in the future. Many students said Six Flags, and their main reason was that it was fun. They wanted to have fun with their friends and go on rides. Another popular option was ice skating. Lots of students were reminded of when they went previously. Lots of them said it would be fun to skate around with friends.OtherpopularsuggestionswereScandiaandBowling.Theyweresuggestedforthesame reasons as Six Flags and ice skating; they would be fun to go to, especially with friends. We even included the less popular ideas. They were Chops, San Francisco Museum, Wikiup, Rebounderz, theOaklandZoo,andGo-Karting.

As a second question, we went around asking if students liked the current field trips we have been going on. We asked about mainly Wikiup and Chops. They said that field trips like Chops were too repetitive andweneededmoreoriginaloptions.Aswecontinuedinterviewing, moreandmorestudentsleaned toward the middle. Most people would have wanted to be able to hang out with friends while being able to have fun.
