Festival of trees boasts fun for everyone Gingerbread houses and take-home photos with Santa will be featured at Family Days during Festival of Trees, slated for Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 24-25. Youngsters will be able to have their photo taken with Santa from noon to 2 p.m. each day. They will be printed immediately so attendees can take the photos home with them. “Festival of Trees is the local kickoff of the holiday season,” said Olympic Medical Center Foundation Executive Director Bruce Skinner. “The most popular feature of Festival of Trees during the weekend is area youth’s first glimpse of Santa.” Many accomplished designers and businesses have stepped up to create wonderful gingerbread structures, said Festival of Trees chair Lindsay Fox. The houses will only be on display at Family Days, which will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Family Days also will feature entertainment and many games for kids. “For those people who want to have their photo taken with Santa and enjoy many types of entertainment for adults and kids, Vern Burton Community Center will be the place to be,” Fox said. Family Days will be part of a larger weekend event. The Port Angeles Downtown Association and Festival of Trees Committee have joined forces to present entertainment on a large scale for the Thanksgiving weekend. The combined effort will begin Friday morning with the annual Teddy Bear Tea, presented by First Federal. This popular event will kick off the

weekend and will feature parents and children enjoying live entertainment, holiday refreshments and visits from Santa. The Festival of Trees Gala, presented by Sequim Health and Rehabilitation, will feature the auctioning of more than 50 Christmas trees and will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, followed by the “After Hours” Festival of Trees event. “After Hours” is sponsored by the Downtown Association, and gala attendees and the public at large are invited to enjoy music of all types at several downtown restaurants and bars starting at 9:30 p.m. H2O Restaurant (featuring the Fat Chance Band), The Metta Room and Port Angeles Crabhouse are among several establishments participating. “There are many people who come home for the holiday weekend,” Skinner said.
