Renton River Days Honors Community Member Teodoro (Ted) Rodriguez as 2018 Parade Grand Marshal Ted Rodriguez’ move to Renton dates back to 1978, when his childhood friend invited him to become partners in Renton’s first Mexican restaurant: Torero’s Mexican Restaurant. “I dreamed about having a little place-only my wife and I” Rodriguez says. “I always had the dream to own a store and to have my own business, but I never thought it would grow this much.” The Torero’s brand grew to have 11 restaurants, yet Ted felt he was also drawn to serve his community as much as possible. Over the years, Ted has been a longtime supporter and participant in Renton River Days and has served as a member of many Renton community organizations including: Renton Rotary, Renton Technical College Foundation Board,

2018 Parade Grand Marshal Ted Rodriguez with daughter Veronica Rodriguez Medina (co-owner of Torero’s)

and the 1997 Renton Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year. Also, in 2003, Rodriguez became an ordained Deacon for the Seattle Catholic Diocese. His home parish is St. Anthony’s, also located in Renton, but helps out in different local parishes. Ted loves being a citizen of this great community and as he says “It is my honor and privilege to serve people, not only in my restaurant, but in my church and my community.” Rodriguez and Torero’s Mexican Restaurants have been known to sponsor spectacular Parade entries featuring Mexican folkloric dancers, Mariachi music, Charros, and beautiful dancing horses. Cheer and celebrate this year’s Parade Grand Marshal Teodoro (Ted) Rodriguez on Saturday, July 28. Parade starts at 10:00 a.m., and goes down South 3rd Street.

For the 33rd year, spectators will line S. 3rd St. from Shattuck Ave. to Liberty Park on Saturday, July 28, for the 10:00 a.m. start of the annual Renton River Days Parade, sponsored by Brotherton Cadillac. River Days appreciates the annual return of STAR 101.5 FM’s Kent Phillips as our Parade Announcer for 75+ entries showcasing drill and dance teams, marching bands, sport teams, community and kid-focused groups, classic cars, plus much more. Also featured, will be community member, volunteer, festival supporter and owner of Torero’s Mexican Restaurants Ted Rodriguez as the Parade’s Grand Marshal, and this year Renton River Days honors Allied Arts of Renton, as our 2018 Outstanding Service Award recipient.
