The parade route features sidewalks along the whole route. But, snagging a spot to set up a chair or stand and watch the parade near the judge’s stand (by Panda Express) will allow you to see groups perform in front of the judges and then easily walk over to the festival grounds when the parade ends. The festival parade route begins at the Real Life Church Campus at 26201 180th Ave SE. Parade staging begins at 9 a.m. and that means road closures will

SE 272nd ST begin around 9:30 a.m. and will last up until 1 p.m. The parade will enter onto 180th Ave SE and head south toward 272nd/Kent Kangley. It will turn right (or west) onto Kent Kangley and continue west to SE 169th Place SE where it will turn right (or north) and head towards the Kohl’s parking lot. The new parade route is just over one mile long and the judging stand will be located on 272nd/Kent Kangley near Panda Express and Starbucks. There will be multiple road

closures and detours in Covington during the parade. While 272nd/Kent Kangley westbound will be closed between 180th/Wax Road

and 168th Place SE, the eastbound lanes will remain open at all times. Please obey all road closure and detour signs.

This summer’s festival will take place in the street on SE 270th Place and 169th Place SE (on the side of and behind Office Depot), and on the campus of the Valley Medical Center North facility at 16850 SE 272nd St. in Covington. The festival grounds will be open to the public on Saturday, July 15 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sunday, July 16 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

LISTEN TO LIVE MUSIC

The festival mainstage is booked with great musical talent throughout the weekend that you won’t want to miss. Take your pick – from country rock to pop to reggae, there is something you are bound to love!

The Perry Gerber Band Sat. 12-1:30 p.m. This Oregon based band brings soulful 60s (and beyond) music to life. They perform covers and original songs that will be sure to entertain! The Marlin James Band Sat. 3:30-5 p.m. The Marlin James Band is one of the Northwest’s hottest Country bands! With a list of over 700 songs, they are able to satisfy a huge range of requests. They play everything from Zac Brown to Keith Urban to Merle Haggard and even original music.

Cowgirl’s Dream Sun. 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. This band specializes in western swing music interspersed with Americana songs. They may even bust out the accordion and play some polka music, too. Funaddicts Sun. 1:30-3 p.m. Yep, this band is fun! The Funaddicts specialize in bringing friends to the dance floor by expertly performing a wide variety of music genres like Jazz, Classic Rock, Contemporary, Country, Golden Oldies, Ballroom and Disco.

What’s a Covington Days Festival without its famous Watermelon Eating Contest?!

There’s no better way to get to know your Covington City Council Members than to have them serve you FREE ice cream bars and popsicles on Sunday, July 16 from noon-1 p.m. or while supplies last. Join them for a chat, handshake, or just for the free ice cream!

GUESS WHAT? You’ll also have the chance to dunk a few council members in the Covington Aquatics Center’s Dunk Tank during that same time frame for a small donation to the aquatics scholarship fund.

FUN FOR KIDS

Kick off the festival by taking the kids out to the main road (272nd ) to watch the parade at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Afterwards, for just $5, kids can speed down the giant slide, try the “Wipeout” style inflatable, and run through the inflatable obstacle course as many times as they want! Kids of all ages can win prizes by playing carnival games at just $1 per ticket. Then enter the FREE Watermelon Eating Contest on Saturday at 2 p.m.; there are categories for all age groups! And don’t miss out on the FREE mobile zoo, too! Several vendors will also have fun kids’ activities, including: - FREE Face Painting in the Kids Zone brought to you by Lakepointe! - Covington Aquatics Center’s dunk tank to raise funds for scholarships - RAD Ceramics offering on-site ceramic painting for all ages (for a fee) - Smith Brother’s Farms providing free milk sampling - Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority’s fire truck and firefighters - Covington Youth Athletics hoop shoot

ANIMALS GALORE

Almost no one can resist the chance to pet or hold a cool animal. You can do both during the festival weekend! On Saturday and Sunday you can experience the Animal Encounters Mobile Petting Zoo! The animals vary from event to event, but you might get a chance to see and pet a wallaby, sheep, Patagonian mara, mini pig, African pygmy goats, rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, bantam chickens, and more. And the best part is - the Petting Zoo is FREE!

HELP FUNDRAISE AT THE FESTIVAL THE DUNK TANK BY THE COVINGTON AQUATIC CENTER The Covington Aquatic Center is hoping for warm weather this Covington Days as they raise money for aquatics scholarships with the popular dunk tank! Festival-goers can take a turn trying to dunk them for a small donation to the scholarship program. What’s even better is that Sunday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., you can take turns trying to dunk Covington City Council Members! COVINGTON DAYS RAFFLE Stop by the information booth and get your raffle tickets to win great prizes! Proceeds from the raffle go right back into the festival to help provide kid and family activities. Just a few of the awesome prizes include Mariner’s tickets; passes to the Museum of Glass; VIP tickets to Sausage and Cider Fest; Kent Valley Ice Center passes; local business gift certificates; and much more! THE COVINGTON QUILT SHOW Although not always on the same weekend, the Covington Quilt Show has been connected to the Covington Days Festival since the early 90’s and is one of the Covington Quilter’s Guild’s main fundraising events. Highlights include judged quilts, vendors, tea room, bazaar, bed turning, HUGS charity quilt display and quilts in progress, I Spy, door prizes and lots of fun. Admission is only $5 and the show runs Friday, July 21, 10- 5 p.m; Saturday, July 22, 10- 5 p.m.; and Sunday, July 23, 10-4 p.m. at Cedar Height Middle School,19640 SE 272nd in Covington.
