City of Covington Mayor’s Letter Living in Covington has many benefits and the opportunities for residents to live, work and play abound. As residents, you and your family have made a major investment in Covington, and your city council and city staff strive to make Covington a quality place you can call home. Covington is situated in a great location, which is a major reason that we continue to attract new residents. While we are just a short drive from everything the Puget Sound has to offer, from the water to the mountains, we also make a good home base for folks who commute to the area’s larger cities for work. When staying local, residents enjoy the ability to get everything they need right in Covington, from retail and grocery shopping to medical services and our new hospital coming soon. Special events and recreation opportunities in Covington are just one of my favorite things about living here. Residents enjoy a variety of events like the Covington Days Festival, Summer Concert Series, Covington KidsFest, Sausage and Cider Fest, the Outdoor Family Movie, Purple Light Nights, and the annual Community Tree Lighting as well as a wide range of activities and athletics programs run by the Parks and Recreation department. The Covington Aquatic Center is a regional treasure providing services like swimming lessons, lifeguard training, open and lap swims, party rentals, special events like the Spooky Swim and Underwater Egg Hunt, and so much more. We also strive to offer meaningful opportunities for residents to help shape the decisions that impact our community. We encourage and value citizen input and offer several ways for community members to be involved. Our volunteer positions include those on city commissions covering arts, parks, planning, human services, economic development and the youth, and within our police volunteer program or during special events throughout the year. Consider applying for one of these volunteer positions and sharing your passion for the community! Please keep in touch with us by following us on Facebook, frequenting our website, or subscribing to receive email or text alerts when we update specific webpages like council meetings and news alerts. City of Maple Valley Mayor’s Letter

The City of Maple Valley is celebrating their 20th anniversary this year. The City has undergone many transformations over the past 20 years and we look forward to making our City even better going into the future. We have many exciting things happening. We recently became a Purple Heart City and a new Maple Valley Veterans Memorial will be erected in the near future to honor our fallen veterans. The City Council approved the development of the new Summit Park athletic fields, a new disc golf course, and new playground equipment for Lake Wilderness Park. In addition, we brought Nexus Community-Based Family Services (CBFS) into our community which provides consistent, high-quality behavioral health services for youth and families in their homes and the community. The programming will include a diverse selection of services to help families identify obstacles to stability and assist them in accessing community services and support networks to address those obstacles. We added an Economic Development Department and hired an Economic Development Manager to help improve the economic vitality of our community which entails job creation, business retention and expansion, tax base enhancements, and quality of life. Our community has a unique set of opportunities for economic development and we look forward to offering new community amenities for our residents. Our partners at the Tahoma School District opened the new Tahoma High School which is the largest high school in Washington State offering 323,000 square feet of space and accommodates 2,600 students. We are excited to have this new amenity for our students and the community. The new Lake Wilderness Elementary School offers a new learning experience for the students because it is visually stunning and is also well-equipped to prepare the students for the future. We encourage our residents to utilize the variety of outdoor recreation amenities which includes Lake Wilderness Park, the Green to Cedar River Trail, and the many top-rated mountain bike trails that we have in our area. Our Parks Department offers many events, activities, and programs throughout the year for children, teens, and adults. Don’t forget the City-owned Lake Wilderness Golf Course which is a popular 18-hole, par 70 layout featuring large evergreen trees, strategic bunkers, several water hazards, and interesting topography bounded by Lake Wilderness Park. We value citizens’ involvement in the community and invite you to attend City Council meetings, which are held on the 2nd and 4th Monday’s of the month, along with the Town Hall and Open House meetings. There are many opportunities for volunteers to get involved including positions on City Commissions and with several of our departments. I encourage you to visit the City’s website at www.maplevalleywa.gov where you can learn more about our community and sign up for eNotification of meetings, events, volunteer openings and local news. You can also visit us on Facebook. Our staff members are always available to assist in receiving comments, answering questions, and providing information. Please contact City Hall at (425) 413-8800 if we can assist you in any way. We are glad to have you in our community.

A rich history surrounds the City of Black Diamond from the famous Black Diamond Bakery to the Black Diamond Historical Museum. The city is nestled in the foothills of Mount Rainier and the Cascades, within miles of the beautiful Green River Gorge and Flaming Geyser Park. We have hiking and biking trails throughout the city and the region, along with Lake Sawyer Regional Park and the Boat Launch Park on Lake Sawyer. We host Minor’s Day on the 2nd Saturday of July and our Labor Day 3 day event, which also features a parade on Labor Day that actually closes Highway 169 for approximately 2 hours. Our city gym now offers Jazzercise, basketball, volleyball and Karate. Our Black Diamond Community Center offers social, recreational and emergency services for seniors, families and youth. This Center has been designated as the Red Cross Mass Disaster Center for the South King County area in case of a major emergency/disaster in the region. Please visit our web site and feel free to visit our city for business opportunities, recreation and dining. We invite open communication and access to City Council and staff. Black Diamond is a great place to live, work, play and do business.
