Dear Class of 2016... Well, we made it! We are now on our way to embark on a new journey and discover what’s in store for lives after high school. Each and every one of us have worked so incredibly hard to get to this point. As we receive our diplomas and take the next steps into our lives, we must take time to give thanks for all that this wonderful community has done for us. With all of this support, we, not only as a class, but each as individuals, have accomplished amazing things. Among us, we have talented artists, dedicated academics, hard workers, even state champions. Whether you’re off to the workforce, the service, or school, take pride in the fact that you are a part of the class of 2016 because we are bound for greatness. Despite hardships, obstacles and road blocks, we have made it. On the occasion of our graduation, however, remember that we have not yet reached our final destination, for this is only the beginning. In each and every one of us there is an opportunity to excel in whichever path of life we may choose. And with everything that Sequim High has given us, knowledge, friendship, and the ability to grow, I have no doubt in my mind that we all are prepared to take on this next phase of our lives. But it in the midst of all this craziness, we must remember to take time to celebrate, and enjoy these last precious moments of high school. We must thank our teachers, our mentors, and our friends and families, because without the support of our community we would not be where we are today. Congratulations to the Class of 2016! Jack Ellison: At five months Jack must have envisioned his future sports talent. Football requires both physical and mental prowess. While visiting grandparents, he developed a training program: climb up on footstool and have adults sit on surrounding couches. Then, stand with body stiff and fall to chosen adult. Repetition and practice are vital. Not only that, he must have known he wanted to be an electrical engineer. It was exciting to put wires into electrical sockets, though that was quickly outlawed. Christian, Now that you are graduating from Sequim High School it seems like a good time to tell you what your mother and I learned during your time in High School. We learned that you are Chris. We learned how you improved and grew day to day, month to month, semester to semester, and year after year. We learned how you matured, learned, developed independence, and grew in responsibility with every passing opportunity. You grew as a boy, as a student, as an athlete, as a friend, and as a man. You grew in our hearts, even if we would have professed that was not possible. And, we learned that we grew in yours. We watched, and we took note; when you helped your brother in a time of need, when you helped us by your own offering, and when you helped yourself to grow. We watched with pride, with love, and with admiration as you adapted to transitions in our lives and in yours. You took responsibility for your own school work, your own driving, for your own life. In the past year you have grown from a dependent of ours to a partner of ours and we enjoyed and welcomed it all. High School Graduation is not an end point, in fact these days it is barely a milestone. It is an indication that you are growing, developing, learning, and proving to yourself that you can set a goal and achieve it your way. Each year you became a better student, more capable to move on to accomplish your education goals and your life goals. College will be another pivot point in your journey. There is so much more ahead for us together and you alone than any of us can imagine and I know that you have the foundation to continue to be the individual who does the right thing, maintains love and relationships, and delivers above expectations.
