both in Carillon Point, have romantic and relaxing views of Lake Washington, and extensive wine lists. For a less expensive date, try the food court at Crossroads Mall (www.crossroadsbellevue.com), split a sundae at Bellevue’s Vivo 53 (www.vivo53.com) or sample wine and champagne at Mercer Island’s recently opened New Seasons Market, and pair your favorites with a homecooked meal and a movie. New Seasons (www.newseasonsmarket.com/our-stores/ mercerisland) will have a red wine tasting from 3-6 p.m. on Feb. 10 and a “bubbles and sweets” tasting from 3-6 p.m. on Feb. 11. Want to get away? Valentine’s Day falls on a Tuesday this year, but that shouldn’t stop you from going on a romantic weekend retreat. 1. Lake Chelan

Valley (www.lakechelanwinevalley.com) Celebrate the month of love with artisan wine and chocolate pairings at Lake Chelan’s Red Wine and Chocolate Weekends on Feb. 11-12 and Feb. 18-19. Romantic restaurants in the area include Sorrento’s Ristorante at Tsillan Cellars, Adante in downtown Chelan or the Campbell’s Resort Bistro, which will have “live music and upscale dinner menu.” Stay at the resort and arrange to have a dozen long stemmed roses, chilled champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries waiting for your arrival. 2. Crystal Mountain (www.crystalmountain.com) The snow has been great this season, and there’s no better view of Mt. Rainier than from the top of Crystal Mountain.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 27, 2017

Valentine’s Day at Crystal “means specials and deals around the mountain for love birds and singles alike,” including a two-for-one day lift tickets and equipment rentals if you play hooky on Feb. 14. There’s also a special menu at Crystal’s Thistle Pub and Grille, and twofor-one deals on spa treatments, ice skating and snowmobile tours. 3. Victoria, BC (www.tourismvictoria.

com) Named “Canada’s most romantic city,” Victoria is a short boat ride away from Seattle, meaning that getting there is half the fun. Top 10 fashion trends of 2017 By Jaime Cao Intern Chokers, bombers, off the shoulder tops and slip dresses were just a few of the trends that took over street style in 2016. With a new year ahead of us, expect to see new trends that take an updated and evolved twist on last year’s most-worn pieces. Gathered from some of the top sites in the fashion industry, including Vogue, Elle and Harper’s Bazaar, read on for the top 10 trends of both men and women that will be all the rage in 2017. FOR WOMEN Activist Statement Tees - With the Women’s March having just passed us, tops with empowering messages have been all the rage. Stripes - Classic and timeless. This year, see stripes in all widths and colors, on everything. Velvet - The comeback fabric that has been everywhere from the runway to the streets. Pleats - Add some fun and elegance to your plain skirts and dresses. The flowy fabric will be sure to bring movement and simplicity to your outfit. ’80s - 2016 was the year of the ’70s decade. Now it’s all about the ruffles and dramatic sleeves. Yellow - The color of the year. Puffer Jackets - A new take on the classic winter coat features oversized padding and updated details. Athleisure - Look out for a new take on the trend that you haven’t seen before, inspired by athletic pieces. Utility - From oversize cargo pockets to

boxy shapes to khaki, this trend has taken over the runways. Patent Leather - Update your leather pieces with a glossy finish to get a high-shine version of the classic trend. FOR MEN Statement Jackets - If you’re feeling adventurous, update your bomber or coat with embroidered or embellished details that make a statement. Outdoors - The great outdoors has inspired clothing from hiking gear to military and utility. Think backpacks, hats and sports sandals with an updated twist. Tracksuits - Track pants and zip-up hoodies make a return in a variety of colors. Pajama Inspired - The comfortable fit of coordinating tops and bottoms inspired by pajama wear is the on-trend way to be in loose fitting clothes all day. Colorful and Patterned Suits - Though neutral suits will always be commonly seen, expect to see brighter-colored and even patterned ones in the mix. Camouflage and Army - Toughen up your look with the print that has been all over the runways. Neckerchiefs - Tie a bandana around your neck to take any look to the next level. Relaxed Fits - Looser fits are becoming popular, specifically in trousers. Soft tailoring will make the trend wearable and comfortable. Tech - Innovative pieces made of technical fabrics will be made to look stylish, including stretchy and breathable items. Check - The tartan print makes a comeback as a popular print, seen most often in suits and street style.
