The Greater Poulsbo Business Economy Long considered a sleepy bedroom community or rural playground, Poulsbo and North Kitsap are in the midst of a building boom that shows no sign of abating. Based on statistical projections of population growth over the next 20 years, the City of Poulsbo would average 100 permits for new housing units each year. When that projection came out several months ago, there were more than 1,400 permits in the queue. Why the sudden popularity? What is causing this boom? Several factors: Seattle’s housing prices are unattainable for most. Traffic jams have increased so that commute times are about the same length as ferry rides. And techies who are now raising children are looking for a different place to live. The first wave of Seattle-area transplants landed on Bainbridge Island, but more and more are coming to this side of the Agate Pass Bridge. But even more of our north-end boom is coming from the Island. Watch the morning commute to the ferry and you’ll discover something interesting: The majority of the cars clogging Highway 305 aren’t reaching the ferry lines. They’re peeling off on side roads to all the various workplaces, because Bainbridge
