Surplus property sale, Water Flume Trail and Council Chambers remodel By Todd Matthews, Editor The Tacoma Daily Index often publishes the City of Tacoma's calls for bids asking contractors to meet the City's needs on a range of supplies, services, and projects. Here is a short-list of some recent and notable calls for bids issued from Tacoma City Hall. First, the City of Tacoma is seeking bids for the sale of surplus property located at 8002 Golden Given Road East (pictured below), according to a legal notice published in January in the Tacoma Daily Index. The minimum bid amount is $260,000. The bid deadline expires at 11 a.m. on Tues., April 19. More information is available online at cityoftacoma.org and tacomadailyindex.com.

Tacoma Historical Society hires director

Julie LaRue (pictured) joins the non-profit organization having served as an educator at the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, New York; a curatorial assistant at the Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown, New York; and an educator and interpreter at the Nantucket Historical Association in Nantucket, Maine. "We are thrilled to have such an outstanding professional in this important leadership position," said Tacoma Historical Society President Bill Baarsma. "This hiring is a culmination of many years of hard work on the part of volunteers, and is a major step forward online at cityoftacoma.org.

Second, the City of Tacoma issued a Request for Proposals seeking contractors to review and make recommendations regarding Tacoma Power's cost-ofservices analysis model, rate design, and open-access transmission tariff rates, according to a legal notice published this month in the Tacoma Daily Index. The project budget is estimated between $50,000 and $80,000. The bid deadline expires at 11 a.m. on Tues., March 1. More information is available online at cityoftacoma.org and tacomadailyindex.com. Third, the City of Tacoma issued a Request For Proposals from contractors to complete improvements to the Customer Support Center at Tacoma City Hall. Bid documents prepared by City staff show the project includes selective demolition, interior framing and gypsum board installation, new interior finishes, casework, doors, frames and hardware, mechanical and electrical systems. The project budget is estimated at $500,000 to $550,000. The bid deadline expires at 11 a.m. on Tues., Feb. 23. More information is available

Fourth, the City of Tacoma issued a Request For Proposals from contractors to complete the Historic Water Ditch (Water Flume) Trail Phase IV, according to a legal notice published in January in the Tacoma Daily Index. Bid documents prepared by City staff show the project includes the new shared use trail, chain link fences, curb ramps and sidewalks, curbs and gutters, single slope concrete barriers, HMA pavement and subgrade, minor storm drains, landscaping, and other work. The project budget is estimated between $1.6 million and $2 million. The bid deadline expires at 11 a.m. on Tues., Feb. 16.
