Tour downtown Tacoma's historic theaters Posted online Mon., Aug. 31 File Photo By Todd Matthews, Editor Broadway Center for the Performing Arts invites visitors to tour Tacoma's historic theaters in September and October. The family-friendly, educational tours led by a knowledgeable volunteer guide start at 1 p.m. and depart from the west lobby doors of the Pantages Theater, located at 901 Broadway, in downtown Tacoma. Upcoming tour dates are Sat., Sept. 5, and Thurs., Oct. 1. For the Thursday tour, stop by the Broadway Center for the Performing Arts booth at the Broadway Farmer's Market to check in with your tour guide. Tours are free and last approximately one hour. RSVP online at broadwaycenter.org. Broadway Center for the Performing Arts manages two historic theaters in downtown Tacoma—the Pantages Theater, which was built in 1918, restored in 1983, and seats 1,169 people (it was added to Tacoma's Register of Historic Places in 1975); and the Rialto Theater, which was built in 1918, restored in 1991, and seats 739 people (it was added to Tacoma's Register of Historic Places in 1990)—as well as Theatre on the Square, which was built in 1993 and seats 302 people, and the Tacoma Armory.
