Sunday Parkways
Tacoma waterfront streets to be car-free for cyclists, pedestrians Photo Courtesy Metro Parks Tacoma Runners, walkers, and cyclists are invited to enjoy almost seven miles of the beautiful Tacoma waterfront clear of traffic during the Third Annual Downtown To Defiance Sunday Parkways event in September. The free event aims to celebrate and encourage sustainable and active transportation options, and is also open to skateboarders, rollerbladers, and other non-motorized, humanpowered modes of transportation. Participants can access the Downtown To Defiance course at any of the following points: North 51st Street, Alder Way, McCarver Street, South 11th Street (using the Murray Morgan Bridge elevator or stairs), South 15th Street, Bridge of Glass, and East D Street (near Tacoma Dome Station). Registration is not required to participate, but the first 500 people to register online at downtowntodefiance.com will be entered to win $100 gift certificates to local businesses. The Third Annual Downtown To Defiance Sunday Parkways event will be held on Sun., Sept. 13, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Event partners include the City of Tacoma, Metro Parks Tacoma, US Bank, Puyallup Watershed Initiative, Grit City Grindhouse, Multicare Health System, Alchemy Skateboarding, and the Tacoma Wheelmen's Club.
