It appears as though the Lake Crescent goose family has sublet its nesting log for the summer to a seagull family. Seagulls are monogamous and both male and female seagulls take turns incubating eggs. Seagulls are one of the rare animals that are able to drink salt water. They have special glands, located above the eyes, which eliminate excess salt from the body. Main predators of seagulls are large birds of prey, such as eagles. Photo Jack Merrick
Forks has the privilege of hosting the Washington State Supreme Court on Sept. 9-10. There will be a welcoming reception for the Court at 5 p.m. Sept. 9, hosted by Peninsula College. The Court will hold regular session on Sept. 10 starting at 9 a.m. at the Rainforest Center, 35 N. Forks Ave. Attorneys will present oral arguments on three cases being considered by the nine justices of the State Supreme Court. West End residents will recognize a familiar face sitting on the dais, in that Justice Susan Owens was the judge of District II Court in Forks for many years. The public is encouraged to attend and watch the Court in session, something rarely seen outside of Olympia or one of the state’s colleges.
