Dunagan Brewing Co. to open in downtown Tacoma Posted online Weds., May 27 Article and Photo By Todd Matthews, Editor Downtown Tacoma could soon be home to a new microbrewery. Dunagan Brewing Co. is expected to open at 1126 Commerce St., which is located near the Link light rail station at South 11th Street, and steps away from the South 12th Street hill climb that connects Pacific Avenue and Broadway. The storefront was previously occupied by Shanghai House, a Chinese restaurant, and Tacoma Cross, a medicinal marijuana shop. According to information available on the City of Tacoma's Web site, a construction permit was issued on April 8. Similarly, information available on the Washington State Liquor Control Board's Web site shows a notification for a liquor application was issued to local government agencies on May 8. The company has also created a Facebook page that includes photographs of site plans, construction progress, and the delivery of brewing tanks. According to the company's Web site, Dunagan Brewing Co. will offer "unique, handcrafted, and organic artisan beers that appeal to a range of tastes" and "give our Pacific Northwest beer community something a little different. So we've brought our sailing and Irish American customs in and are putting them right into our beers!" "Our microbrewery is planned this year for an early August opening," owner Jesse Dunagan told the Tacoma Daily Index via e-mail on Wednesday afternoon. "We're actually all local Tacoma boys here and have moved back home to serve our community. Things are still at the foundation laying stage and we'll have some more updates soon." Downtown Tacoma already includes several local breweries, such as Harmon Brewing Co., Pacific Brewing & Malting Co., Wingman Brewers, Tacoma Brewing Co., and Odd Otter Brewing Company. Similarly, a construction permit was issued to Vostok Dumpling House on April 20 for 1126 Commerce St. (the same location as the brewery), according to information available on the City of Tacoma's Web site. The Tacoma Daily Index asked Dunagan for some clarification, and he noted, "Yes, they're going to be here as well. The lower floor of the building has been subdivided into two units. I'm not sure when they're going to open." Vostok Dumpling House is a Russian restaurant currently located in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood, according to the company's Web site. The Tacoma Daily Index reached out to Vostok Dumpling House owner Andrey Tokar for more details, but did not receive a response. This article will be updated on our Web site if more information is available.
