faculty during a rally on the college’s main campus Wednesday.

Earlier in the week, faculty had written a letter to the college’s Board of Trustees, supporting a Vote of No Confidence against Ely and calling for her removal. “We are gravely troubled about

the future of our college, an institution to which most of us have devoted our life’s work,” faculty wrote in the letter. “The negative trends under the presidency of Dr. Ely have intensified over the past

two years. We no longer believe that this trend will reverse under Dr. Ely’s leadership and we are asking the Board of Trustees to [ more COLLEGE page 3 ]

School board selects two finalists for superintendent FOR THE REPORTER

The Auburn School Board has selected two finalists – Michael Newman and Alan Spicciati – for district superintendent. Newman is deputy superintendent of business and operations for Auburn schools, and Spicciati is chief accountability officer for the Highline School District. Newman and Spicciati each will spend a day in the district next week for talks, a tour of selected schools, a meet-the-candidate community forum and a final interview. Newman is available from 4 to 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 20, for the forum in the James P. Fugate Administration boardroom, 915 4th St. NE. Spicciati is available from 4 to 5:30 p.m., May 21. The public is encouraged to attend the community forums. The candidates will speak approximately halfway through the session for about 30 minutes. The board is scheduled to select the next superintendent at its June 8 meeting. The new superintendent, who begins his contract July 1, succeeds Kip Herren, [ more FINALISTS page 2 ]

The flight itinerary calls for Green River College’s aviation program to take wing next summer from the Lea Hill campus and land in the valley below.
