Grants available for Pierce County historic preservation projects Posted online Mon., April 6 File Photo By Todd Matthews, Editor The Pierce County Landmarks and Historic Preservation Commission is accepting applications for the 2016 Preservation Grant Program, which assists in funding preservation efforts in Pierce County. Grant requests can be made for historic preservation or history-related project proposals. For stabilization, restoration, or rehabilitation of Certified Local Government (CLG) register-listed buildings or structures, the maximum request is $15,000. For photographic/document preservation, historic markers, history research, and public events/programming, the maximum request is $7,500. Matching resources equaling the grant request must be provided by the applicants. The Pierce County Landmarks and Historic Preservation Commission will accept applications until 3 p.m. on Weds., July 1, 2015. Projects must be completed between Fri., Jan. 1, 2016, through Sun., Nov. 13, 2016. Non-profit organizations, public agencies, and owners of property listed on local historic registers are eligible to apply. Applications are available online at piercecountywa.org. The Broadway Center for the Performing Arts in Tacoma was awarded a grant from Pierce County in 2012 to complete elevator safety and access improvements at the historic Pantages Theater downtown.
