Tacoma Bid Watch

Gangs, graffiti, and South Tacoma Way / Water Ditch Trail upgrades Posted online Tues., Dec. 9 Article By Todd Matthews, Editor Photos Courtesy City of Tacoma The Tacoma Daily Index often publishes the City of Tacoma's calls for bids asking contractors to meet the City's needs on a range of supplies, services, and projects. Here is a short-list of some recent and notable calls for bids issued from Tacoma City Hall. First, the City is accepting bids from contractors to provide street outreach services for the Tacoma Gang Reduction Project, which aims to reduce and prevent gang violence through prevention, intervention, and suppression efforts, according to a legal notice published this week in the Tacoma Daily Index. Bid documents prepared by City staff show the City seeks to establish one or more contracts with street outreach workers to provide outreach, mentoring, social and intervention services. The budget is estimated at $200,000. The bid deadline expires at 11 a.m. on Tues., Jan. 6, 2015. More information is available online at cityoftacoma.org and tacomadailyindex.com. Second, the City is accepting bids from contractors to provide graffiti removal services in key areas of Tacoma, according to a legal notice published this week in the Tacoma Daily Index. Bid documents prepared by City staff show the City seeks to establish a contract with a company that can provide graffiti response and removal from private property along key corridors that include arterials, commercial districts, and entrances to the City limits within 72 hours. The work is part of Tacoma's graffiti removal program, which removes graffiti from a private property up to three times during a 12-month period. Upon the second incidence, the contractor will work with City staff to provide crime prevention suggestions and graffiti mitigation tools to the property owner. The budget is estimated at $190,000. The bid deadline expires at 11 a.m. on Tues., Jan. 6, 2015. More information is available online at cityoftacoma.org and tacomadailyindex.com. Third, the City is accepting bids from contractors to provide a range of road improvements along a significant stretch of South

Tacoma Way, according to a legal notice published this week in the Tacoma Daily Index. Bid documents prepared by City staff show the City seeks to establish a contract with a company that can provide an asphalt overlay, ADA ramps, sidewalk, curbs, gutters, and streetlights on South Tacoma Way, between South 56th Street and South 66th Street, as well as South 43rd Street and South 47th Street. The project will also improve two sections of the Water Ditch Trail — first, the traffic signal at South 58th Street will be upgraded to better serve pedestrians; second, the Water Ditch Trail will be constructed between South Tacoma Way and the new Sounder Station. The budget is estimated between $2.7 million and

Finally, following up on a topic popular among Tacoma Daily Index readers, the City recently selected a contractor to demolish a derelict and abandoned building in South Tacoma. The 1,176-square-foot, 82-year-old former single-family residence (pictured above) is located at 4621 S. M St. The City issued a call for bids earlier this year. The bid deadline expired on Weds., Oct. 15. Three contractors submitted bids: Pelland Enterprises (Puyallup, Wash. — $10,050); Dirtek Disposal (Tacoma, Wash. — $18,000); and Woodland Industries (Puyallup, Wash. — $11,700). According to the City's Web site, a contract was awarded in October to Pelland Enterprises. More information is available online at cityoftacoma.org.
