5 Pierce County heritage projects could receive $2.8M in Wash. capital improvement grants File Photo By Todd Matthews, Editor Five Pierce County heritage organizations could share nearly $2.8 million in capital improvement funds from the Washington State Historical Society. The grants are part of the Washington State Heritage Capital Projects Fund, which aims to support capital needs and facilities of heritage organizations, tribal governments, public development authorities, and local government agencies that interpret and preserve Washington’s history and heritage. The Washington State Heritage Capital Projects Fund Advisory Panel met last month to evaluate and score more than three-dozen grant applications. The panel recommended funding for 31 organizations and their projects. The five local organizations and projects that have been recommended for funding include: Applicant: Broadway Center for the Performing Arts Project Name: Pantages Centennial / Facade Restoration Funds Requested: $685,000 Advisors Recommended Amount: $685,000 Applicant: Foss Waterway Seaport Project Name: Renovation of and Heating of Interior Space of Balfour Dock Building / Phase IIIB Funds Requested: $1 million Advisors Recommended Amount: $1 million Applicant: City of Tacoma Project Name: Prairie Line Trail Historic Interpretation Project Funds Requested: $400,000 Advisors Recommended Amount: $400,000 Applicant: City of Gig Harbor Project Name: Ancich Netshed Restoration Funds Requested: $661,652.00 Advisors Recommended Amount: $661,652.00 Applicant: Harbor History Museum Project Name: F/V Shenandoah Funds Requested: $40,755.00 Advisors Recommended Amount: $40,755.00 The panel also recommended an alternate Pierce County organization and project for grant funding: Applicant: Gig Harbor Boatshop Project Name: Eddon CONTINUED Boatyard House Restoration ON PAGE 2
