SK man faces arson charges

A 54-year-old man accused of setting fires to a pair of South Kitsap homes was charged Sept. 15 in

Kitsap County District Court. Gregory James Kristudek, 54, Port Orchard, has been charged with two counts of first-degree arson. According to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, Kristudek was arrested Sept. 13. Bail was set at $1 million. Deputy Scott Wilson, KCSO spokesman, said both fires occurred within approximately 700 yards of each other within an hour. The first was reported

at 2:31 p.m. by a 27 year-old woman residing in an apartment residence in the 1400 block of Arnold Avenue East. The woman called 911 and reported she believed the fire was set by her father, whom she observed walking away from her house. The fire was reportedly set in an upstairs bedroom. City Attorney Greg Jacoby resigned after Mayor Tim Matthes asked him to do so, according to a Port Orchard council member. Matthes asked for Jacoby’s resignation one day after the city council held a retreat at city hall. Jacoby would not comment on the resignation. Councilman John Clauson said he received a call Sept. 10 from Matthes, who said that he had asked for Jacoby’s resignation early in the day. Jacoby has been city attorney since 2008.
