Rose Ehl recalled watching the peach juice drip down a girl’s chin while she ate a peach at the Federal Way Farmers Market. The girl’s mother brought her to the market each week to buy produce using her Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) vouchers. “It was so touching that the girl said, ‘I just love coming here and getting my fresh peach each week,’” said Ehl, who has been the market’s events director since it started. This is just one of the many reasons why Ehl said the market is more than a farmers market — it’s a community market. Police investigate shooting fatality at apartments FROM STAFF REPORTS

he Federal Way Police Department (FWPD) is investigating the shooting death of a man described as a “black male (in his) 20s”
in the parking lot of the Silver Shadow Apartments, which are in the 27600 block of Pacific Highway South. According to police, they were originally responding to reports of an illegal discharge of a fire-

tion from FWPD, detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the scene and are working the investigation. Police have no suspects as of this writing, and will release further information pend-

Eleven officers from the Federal Way Police Department (FWPD) were awarded a Medal of Valor on Tuesday night during the Federal Way City Council meeting, for their response to the deadly shootings at the Pinewood Apartments last year. The officers awarded the medal were: Lieutenant Kurt Schwan, and officers Kyle Buchanan, John Buster, Shaun Daniels, Kris Durell, Daniel Graf, Joseph Mehline, Scott Orta, Keith Schmidt, Carl VanDyke and Nicholas Wong. FWPD Chief Andy Hwang recounted their actions on that deadly night, saying they responded with bravery and that they likely saved additional lives. “On April 21, 2013, about 9:35 p.m., officers from the Federal Way Police Department were dispatched to the Pinewood Apartment complex.
