10th Annual Visit to the Chadd Farm

Located just east of Tacoma, the farm belonging to Judson Park team member Douglas Chadd has been an annual treat for residents of Judson Park Retirement Community for ten years. The farm has continually evolved during these years, offering new appeal to the senses with each visit. This year, over the course of six visits, a total of 86 residents from all areas of the community visited the five-acre farm. In past years, residents have enjoyed beautifully blooming dahlias and delectably fresh garden vegetables during their visits. This year, the highlight was definitely the animals. Free-ranging birds, four gorgeous dogs, sweet Siamese barn cats and more awaited seniors during the July trips. The newest additions were two-day old pigeons, born and bred on the farm: a rare breed called the “English Carrier pigeon.� Also new to the farm this year are three alpacas and one llama, all pregnant! These quadrupeds were rescued by the Chadds from a nearby slaughterhouse and were a delight to the residents. We look forward to
babies next year! The six trips are carefully coordinated by the Judson Park Resident Services team to ensure residents who wish to attend are able to have the support needed to truly enjoy the visit. Ruth Rhody attended not one but two trips to the farm! She felt the entire trip was wonderful. Before the visit, she had never seen an alpaca. The best part for her was holding the baby pigeon. She states “It was just a thrill! All parts of the trip were wonderful, but holding a creature that small – it just touched my heart!�

is the third largest city in King County and the sixth largest in the state. The Kent area was first permanently settled by westerners in the early 1860s, and originally called Titusville (there is still a ‘Titusville Station’ sign on Gowe St). Kent is divided into three major regions: East Hill, the Valley, and West Hill. Downtown Kent is located on the east side of the valley; the rest of the valley is almost entirely covered by warehouses. Lifelike Dentures is a new family practice with deep roots. Denturist, Michael Holden, leads the practice. Michael grew up in the world of dentures. He inherited the profession from his father, Ken Holden L.D., who helped pioneer Denturism in Oregon and Washington. Michael graduated from the University of Oregon and attended George Brown Technical College, where he completed the Denturist Program. Michael became a licensed denturist in 2006. Since becoming licensed Michael worked at Natural Dentures where he ran offices in Salem, Corvallis and West Linn, OR.
