Sun and Lobos shine at multischool track meet

Against all odds, the sun came out and welcomed athletes from seven schools to the annual Lopez-hosted track meet on April 16. Teams attended from Friday Harbor, Lummi, Mount

Rande Gruenwald and Eddie Kramer and freshmen Vinnie Kramer and Harrison Goodrich. Senior Mattie Jordan and sophomore Brianne Swanson make up the girls’ team. Lopez athletes put in a number of outstanding performances, with first place finishes in the two mile run by Solomon Bill and in discus by Rande Gruenwald. Derekk Buffum took second in shot put, and Josef BlancRidings took second in the 200 meter dash.

The Lopez boys 4x100 meter relay team took second place with their best time of the season. Other Lobos posting personal records included Gruenwald (discus and 100 meter dash), and Vinny and Eddie Kramer (100 meter dash). Coach Matt Willis is confident that the Lopez athletes are approaching their peak performances just in time for the League Championship on May 3 at Lummi and the District meet at Stanwood on May 10.
