Dear reader, Can I sleep in? Is it spring yet? Is the sun out?

These are just some of the questions I’ve been asking myself since losing that extra hour to daylight savings time.

I’m totally OK with the hour loss. It means longer days, right? And we’re an inch closer to that two week period we can wear sandals in Washington. True story: we have the most beautiful spring in the ENTIRE WORLD. Just don’t tell out-of-towners; traffic is crappy enough without them.

For this issue of the Scene we’re giving you a sneak peek of things to do around the Eastside this spring. Looking for an adventure? We’ve got all the scoop on geocaching.

Or maybe fashion is more your thing? If so, stylist Kim Brooks has some tips for spring styling.

In the entertainment department we’ve got two big stories: Heart is being inducted in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in May – and we caught up with Steve Fossen and Roger Fisher, who co-founded the group! We’ve also got a feature on the new exhibit at the Triple Door’s Musiquarium Lounge - which features work by some of the Northwest’s best rock photographers.

Now, let’s talk food. In addition to catching up with the owners of Kukai Ramen and Izakaya, the Scene spoke to Chef John Howie, who was recently nominated for a James Beard Foundation award.

On a damp March afternoon, Abby Wolfe turns a jaunt on the Coal Creek Trail into a high-tech treasure hunt with the push of a button.

Not only is Wolfe is one of thousands of Washington State geocachers, she is also going on her fourth year as president of the Washington State Geocaching Association.

Geocaching is a booming international game of participants hiding containers — called caches — outdoors and using GPS coordinates to find them. Participants can use a GPS device or even simply download a GPS app to their smartphone to find the geocaches, which contain a finder log and various trinkets to trade.

The geocaches vary in looks from plastic camouflaged to look like a large rock to clear, watertight plastic containers clearly labeled “GEOCACHE.” The caches can be hidden behind logs, next to a tree or in a row of rocks. The main rules to placing a cache are: No digging and leave no trace. When it comes to trading trinkets, such as figurines, buttons, pins or other small items, participants are instructed to trade even or trade up.

“Don’t trade a rock for a matchbox car,” Wolfe says.

It is free to participate and sign up at Geocaching.com, the top geocaching website. After that, it’s as easy as pulling up the app on a smart phone or pressing a few buttons on a GPS device and following the arrows and clues on the screen to the hidden treasure right in front of you.

“It’s goal-oriented hiking,” the Newcastle resident says as she stands in the Coal Creek Natural Area.

Wolfe was already an avid hiker when she first learned about geocaching in 2003. A friend of hers got a GPS device and they used it in Wolfe’s own neighborhood to find four different caches. It became a year-round hobby for her as she moved from San Jose, Calif., to the Seattle area, she says.

By now, she probably knows the state better than many natives, having crisscrossed the state multiple times geocaching. Wolfe says there are approximately 27,000 active geocaches hidden across the state everywhere from city sidewalks to mountaintops and even underwater.

But the activity isn’t just for those ready to scale Mount Rainer - though that’s exactly what geocacher Annie Love did.

Love, who works as the partner programs manager for Geocaching.com - the official geocaching website that tracks all active, registered caches - says it was geocaching that inspired her to train to climb Mount Rainer and find the cache at the top.

While that is a more extreme example of geocaching, Love says there are many wheelchairaccessible caches as well as ones in neighborhoods, parks and various locations in the city. One geocache in the city of Seattle is simply a piece of gum that thousands of people walk by each day, she says.

“There’s a type of caching for everyone,” Love says.

Cache In Trash Out event, which serves as an opportunity for geocachers to give back to the parks that host their hobby.

“I’m finding caches and hanging out with fellow geocachers — people I now call my friends,” she says.

Wolfe is coordinating a CITO event on behalf of WSGA at Cougar Mountain April 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Cougar Mountain trailhead at Newport Way in Issaquah. She is also partnering with Washington State Parks for the Washington State Parks Centennial GeoTour, which kicks off June 7.

The centennial geotour will consist of 100 caches placed in 100 parks throughout the state for participants to find. Wolfe says specially made geocaching coins will be awarded to participants who reach different levels of the high-tech treasure hunt.

Serving as WSGA’s park liaison is a way for Wolfe to encourage support for geocaching, her favorite recreational activity, and maintain a good working relationship between geocachers and the parks that host them.

“I love the outdoors, and geocaching combines hiking with the lure of the hunt,” she says.

“And geocaching takes me to so many cool places I would never have seen otherwise. Even after 10 years, my wish list of places to visit and cache is quite long.”

Sail away with me M loud & about

y love for funky finds and quirky beautiful bargains is no secret. Last month’s issue featured my list of 10 Things To Buy at Goodwill and I have run into several of you there since then.

As part of the prep for her own story on thrift stores, I took Scene Assistant Editor Keegan Prosser on a quick and dirty (in a good way) tour of several Eastside secondhand stores including the since remodeled and all too pretty, Bellevue Goodwill. We tried on Macklemore-approved faux furs, blinged-out HEIJA NUNN shades and size WOW! men’s shoes.

I showed her my favorite corners and lucky spots and before we left the store I introduced her to The One That Got Away.

We’d met the day before when a glint of metal caught my eye from across the store. Intrigued, I sidled in for a

closer look so as not to attract the attention of competitive shoppers because there are unspoken rules for successful bargain stalking you know.

Rule 1: Keep your mouth shut and your eyes vacant, and for goodness sake, don’t do a happy dance!

Rule 2: Follow the rumble of carts as they emerge like Santa from the stockroom — but keep that one to yourself.

As for the rest, I’ve already said too much.

I appraised my insta-crush carefully and reached out to turn over the price tag. I snatched my hand away as if I had been slapped by fire – $119.99 for an object of affection at Goodwill? No way! But I was already hooked.

Finally, lust overcame me, and I reached up to embrace my new love, lifting it into my arms for a romantic Officer and a Gentleman like triumphant journey to the cash register. I am pretty sure I heard music.

As I stepped back to admire my love in the harsh glare of daylight I thought, to myself, “I dunno, looks a little worse for wear if you ask me.” I looked around for a cheap pair of rose-colored glasses and finding none, managed to tear myself away from my Goodwill crush.

COLD WEATHER REQUIRES WARM NEIGHBORS

It hurt to walk away, but at the moment it felt like the right thing to do for both us. Until last week.

I stood at my kitchen counter absorbed in online research. I typed in “metal sculpture” and the name of the mid-century designer I thought was responsible for the five-foot hunk of punishingly sharp and noisy metal bits. I quickly discovered that my purchase was either a sad, ruined original or a not horrible, but still fake reproduction.

A few more clicks and scrolls left me feeling like a jealous and jilted lover; my over-sized and only slightly rusty metal sailboat friend hid a secret identity and if I had bothered to look, the signature of a popular designer.

I tried to look away, but online auction sites mocked me with current and sold auction prices of up to $2,200 for The One That Got Away.

I keep telling myself that truly valuable things can’t be bought, and that the memories we make are all that we take when we sail into the sunset for last time. And I believe it, I really do.

But I have learned a new lesson, even after all these years of looking for love in all the thrift places; it’s okay to believe in love at first sight – so don’t be surprised if the best goods Sail Away With Me. Introducing: Kim Brooks Style STORY AND PHOTOS BY KEEGAN PROSSER Bellevue resident Kim Brooks has been interested in fashion since she was old enough to buy magazines and clothes.

"I spent all my money on that," says the self-proclaimed "bartender of clothes" - and founder of Kim Brooks Style (formerly Pink Pagoda Style).

Originally from Vancouver, B.C., Brooks worked in retail and wholesale for several years before making styling her full-time gig.

"After I had kids I decided I wanted to do something for myself," Brooks says.

It's at that point she started doing closet consultations with her friends - helping them reorganize their wardrobes and refocus their style.

"I figured there is so much Lulu Lemon and Uggs happening [in the Greater Seattle Area] that I needed to adjust that. It became my mission to help women find their own style."

For the past year, Brooks has been developing her online presence - moving from her Facebook page to regularly posting under Pink Pagoda, and now KimBrooksStyle.com.

Inspired by looks on the street and emails she receives from readers, Brooks covers fashion for all types of occasions - for both woman and men. She recently did a post on how to accessorize for swanky auctions, and is a regular contributor to Hip Travel Mama, an Eastside-based travel and lifestyle blog.

"I'm in charge of clothes," Brooks says about her weekly post.

In addition to serving as a personal stylist, Brooks’ business has branched out to speaking engagements, styling fashion shoots and Fashion 101s with clients. While Brooks doesn't consider herself an interior designer, she has also been hired to redecorate living spaces.

"Once clients see you are a visual person, they ask about other things," Brooks says.

In this tradition, Brooks occasionally dabbles in creating table settings for wedding receptions as well.

Bellevue resident Kim Brooks recently re-branded her styling business as Kim Brooks Style. She was operating previously as Pink Pagoda Style.

Brooks says that most of the women that contact her are feeling lost in their wardrobe.

"They have a lot of clothes, but they don't know how to put them together," Brooks says.

Her job is to help them sift through the clutter - and jumpstart their style.

"I love working with individual women because a lot of times there are feelings attached to what's going on in their wardrobe,” Brooks says. "And when they have a break out moment, it's so rewarding."

Brooks says she is not the type of stylist that takes people to only high end stores. In fact, balancing the high and the low are at the heart of what she does.

"I don't think people need to spend all of their money on designer clothes to look good," Brooks says.

Regarding the impending warmer weather, Brooks said Spring 2013 fashions are all over the board.

Among the trends are stripes, florals, pastels, bright colors, leather and faux-leather.

"And a lot of white on white."

Brooks says people in the Northwest are often hesitant to incorporate colors or patterns in to their wardrobe.

"Color is good because it gets rid of the gray," Brooks says.

Just don't wear pastels from head to toe - or you'll look like an Easter egg.

Glitz, glamour and $480,000 to help homeless

T

he Mirrorball trophies were sparkling Saturday, March 2 as local dancers took to the floor to support Plymouth Housing Group, which provides safe, decent and affordable housing for homeless and low income families.

With 500 people watching, the event raised more than $480,000 for the organization.

Kudos to Hallie Kuperman and the Century Ballroom for helping arrange this annual event, which paired 12 contestants with a professional dancer in the competition.

Rose Dennis Eastsider Stacy Lill co-chaired the fundraiser with Carese Busby. The evening’s emcee was Patti Payne.

Rock Gods of the Eastside How two guys from Kenmore came to start the band Heart story and photo By Matt Phelps Roger Fisher and Steve Fossen have been friends for nearly 50 years. They were part of the first sophomore class at Inglemoor High School, shared the same homeroom and played their first gigs around the Kenmore and Bothell area.

In less than three weeks they will do one more big thing together – officially become “Rock Gods.”

Both are founding members of the band Heart, which will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on April 18.

“It is an odd feeling to be in the same club as Mick Jagger and Bruce Springsteen,” says Fossen, who played bass for Heart for nearly 15 years.

Many of the bands in the Hall of Fame inspired the two friends.

“The Beatles changed everything,” says Fisher, who played guitar in Heart for more than a decade. “We were really into music [when they met], but we didn’t have instruments.”

“I would tape my transistor radio to my bike and the first time I heard ‘From Me to You’ I was blown away so much I forgot I was riding my bike,” Fossen says.

Both say their parents rented them their first instruments to keep them out of trouble. Fisher began burglarizing houses in high school and was “humiliated” having to stand in front of the judge with his mother. He had stolen an eight ball from a pool table and the judge let him off easy.

“Getting busted made me concentrate on guitar,” says Fisher.

Fossen’s parents rented him his first bass guitar and amp to keep him out of trouble, too. But he had to get a job at the downtown Kenmore IGA grocery store to pay for it.

“I got paid $14 a week or something,” says Fossen. “I eventually quit because I

could make 10 times that or more on the weekends (playing shows).”

The two gave praise to their manager, Roger’s older brother Mike, for getting the band a lot of shows and making them money.

“We were successful from the get-go,” says Fisher.

They first found local success under the band name The Army, playing shows all around the Puget Sound.

When the band needed a new singer they placed an ad in a local paper.

“We placed an ad in the Bellevue American and Ann (Wilson) answered it,” says Fisher. “We originally had two lead singers.”

Fisher fell in love with Ann’s sister Nancy Wilson the first time he saw her.

“We went to Ann’s house and I saw a photo of Nancy and it altered my world,” says Fisher.

Fisher and Nancy began a long personal relationship, while his brother Mike began a relationship with Ann. The band played bars with Ann for three years before Nancy joined the group.

Their first gig was in Richland, Wash., and the friends made enough money to pay off all of their debts.

The band changed names a few times before settling on Heart - and signing to a Canadian label called Mushroom Records.

But their relationship with Mushroom Records was short-lived despite the success of the music. The band’s first album “Dreamboat Annie” went gold.

“The record company was holding our funds back,” says Fossen. “They were trying to bribe us to keep going.”

The record then went platinum.

“We were opening for the Doobie Brothers and the Beach Boys,” says Fossen. “(The album) went double platinum and we were

still at $200 a week (each).”

The band finally moved on to sign with CBS Records and things changed.

“They passed out the checkbooks and we each got $250,000,” says Fossen. “We all went out and bought cars and guitars and houses.”

“We all got dental work, too,” says Fisher.

The band had great success, fueled by classic songs such as “Barracuda,” “Crazy on You,” “Magic Man” and “Kick it Out.” In all, Fisher and Fossen would work on five Heart albums, including “Dreamboat Annie,” “Magazine,” “Little Queen,” and “Dog and Butterfly.” Fossen would stay on with the band through the release of “Bebe le Strange” and “Private Audition.”

The band has had about 20 members in and out of its ranks with the Wilson sisters the only mainstays. Both Fossen and Fisher look back on their time with fond memories.

“Heart could not have been what it was without any one of us,” says Fisher, who now lives in Monroe.

Both found it difficult to move on after leaving the band.

“I couldn’t imagine going out and playing in a bar,” says Fisher. “When you are in a band like that people treat you like royalty. It took me a year to realize that I was in the wrong state of mind.”

Fossen says in the music business you’re either on top or at the bottom and there isn’t much in between.

Both were excited when they heard in 2011 that Heart was nominated for the Hall of Fame.

“I saw the most amazing rainbow when we did the final mix of ‘Dreamboat Annie,’” says Fossen. “Then I saw one just like it after I heard we were nominated (in 2011).”

The 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be aired on HBO on May 18.

Ginger Pear Bellini

Cut pineapple into one-inch pieces, after removing the core of the fruit. Pulse the slices of pineapple in a food processor until the mixture is lightly crushed, but not pureed. Move ingredients to a pot and add sugar, 4 cups of water and 3 lavender sprigs (try rosemary or lemon verbena as an alternative). Bring mixture to a simmer over medium-high heat; reduce to a lower temperature and allow to cook for 15 minutes. Strain through a sieve; allow to cool and add lemon juice.

It can be easy to get caught up in the planning for your big day, so for a simple, easy recipe that requires little prep, try this blend of ginger and pear (in season through the end of spring). These drinks will make you ache for summer.

Serves 4-5: For ginger simple syrup: 6 inches fresh ginger, peeled and diced 1 cup of sugar 1 cup of water For bellini: ½ cup ginger simple syrup 2 large, cored pears, pureed and well chilled 6 ounces vodka 1 bottle of champagne or sparkling wine Combine ginger, sugar and water in a medium saucepan. Boil until the sugar dissolves, then cover and let simmer for a half hour. Strain and refrigerate until you’re ready to use your simple syrup mixture. When ready, combine ½ of mixture with pureed pears and refrigerate. Pour in glasses, leaving room for an ounce of vodka. Add champagne to taste.

Cooking up success

Eastside chef John Howie shows with hardwork, perseverance dreams can come true STORY AND PHOTO BY LINDA BALL

Chef and restaurant owner John Howie seems to have an endless amount of energy. He seems to be smiling all the time. He has reason to smile. He has a healthy, happy family life, five restaurants and another one on the way, and now his first-ever James Beard Foundation Award nomination.

The James Beard Foundation nurtures and promotes the culinary arts. Beard is no longer alive, but his historic brownstone in New York’s Greenwich Village is still a “performance space” for visiting chefs. Howie cooked a dinner at the Beard house last November, nine years after he last cooked at the famed home.

The foundation has several categories for awards, with the nominees and eventual winners chosen by food writers, other chefs and foundation members.

Howie is one of 20 nominees in the “Outstanding Restaurateur” category, which was won last year by Seattle restaurateur Tom Douglas.

“I seriously doubt I’ll win because Tom won last year,” Howie said. His rationale is that they wouldn’t go with two Northwest chefs in a row, but, like the old adage, it is indeed an honor to be nominated.

With 37 years in the restaurant business, Howie doesn’t think he’s been nominated before because his restaurants are large. He said the awards tend toward smaller venues.

“They like the starving artist thing,” he said.

Howie’s story is definitely one of hard work and persistence. He started his career 37 years ago as a busboy at The Refectory in Bellevue. He was 15-years-old and already living on his own. His father was killed in a car accident in 1964, near the family home in Illinois, when Howie wasn’t quite 4-years-old. Howie said he gets his drive from his parents.

His father was a pilot for United Airlines, and when he wasn’t flying he was selling real estate or working the small family farm. His mom went to work in the offices of United Airlines, and re-married in 1967. With his mom and new step-dad, Howie and his little sister moved to Bellevue.

Unfortunately, the marriage ended in 1970. Howie’s mother had her own rough past.

She was sent to a children’s home when she was just 13, where she was abused. After the death of Howie’s father and subsequent divorce, she developed into an alcoholic, and Howie was left to care and cook for his younger sister and step-sister.

His mother had a breakdown when he was 15 from trying to quit drinking on her own.

He and his sister were sent to foster homes, while his step-sister went with her dad. When his mother returned, sober, “she wanted to be the boss of me,” so he left home.

The Refectory was closed by the Health Department not long after he started there, so Howie moved on to Emmett’s in Bellevue where he started as a pantry chef, preparing salads and desserts. Eventually he was working the line, and on Sunday and Mondays he was the only cook there.

“But I played too hard and got fired,” he said.

Looking for a new gig, he was hired as a dishwasher at the Black Angus. No one believed that a 16-year-old kid had accomplished what he had already in the kitchen. Two weeks later, he was cooking again.

He left the Black Angus and worked at several other restaurants, the most interesting, he said, was called Sunday’s, on lower Queen Anne, where Metropolitan Market is now. It used to be a church, and the sanctuary was the dining room.

His big break came when he was hired as the head chef at Palisade on Elliott Bay Marina. The building was new, modeled after a sister restaurant in Hawaii. Howie worked his magic in the kitchen there for 10 years.

The time had come though, and he was planning to open his first restaurant, Seastar.

It opened 11 years ago last month. He was going to call it Starfish, but that was already taken, so his son, then 5, suggested Seastar and it stuck.

Howie now has five restaurants — he opened Sport in Seattle, (across from the Space Needle) in 2005, Seastar in Seattle in 2009, John Howie Steak in Bellevue, and the Adriatic Grill in Tacoma, with partners Bill and Monique Trudnowski. His next venture will be a farm-to-table brewhouse in Bothell, which tentatively will be The Beardslee Ale House.

He likes to keep straight-forward items on his menus, but he also has dishes that challenge foodies. He said New York is tops for foodies, but he thinks Seattle is as good as San Francisco or Chicago.

He’s also maintained a close family of employees, many who followed him from Palisade.

“Twenty-five kids have been born since we started Seastar,” he said of his employee’s children.

But there is another passion in Howie’s life – helping others. No story on Howie could be told without mentioning his philanthropic activities.

“I’m a Christian – I believe Jesus gave his life for me and it’s my responsibility to give back to others,” he said. “We do something philanthropic every week.”

For example, he hosts dinners in people’s homes, which they bid on at various charitable auctions. He said the highest bid for a dinner was $13,000. For nine years he’s participated in the Taste of the NFL, where he goes to the Super Bowl, prepares food, and the money is donated to Food Lifeline in Seattle. He’s raised $122,000 for Food Lifeline.

Zan McColloch-Lussier, director of marketing for Food Lifeline said Howie is a real hero for folks in Western Washington.

“Being nominated is a really big deal,” McColloch-Lussier said. “He raised more money than any other chef in the NFL and it was really a big deal. $122,000 feeds a lot of hungry folks. He never backs away from the topic of hunger in our city. He’s always here for families in need in Western Washington.”

Last year he donated three $50 gift cards for silent auctions to 835 organizations. And every Thanksgiving he serves a three-course Thanksgiving meal to folks from Bellevue Life Spring, Hope Link, abused women from various shelters, the YWCA Redmond and Olive Crest, an organization that supports foster families.

For a guy who learned from the school of hard knocks, John Howie has accomplished much. He also has three published cook books of his recipes.

“I love to eat, and luckily for me, people like to eat what I eat,” Howie said.

¿Como se dice ‘funny’?

BY KEEGAN PROSSER Comedian Carmen Lynch didn’t necessarily plan on getting in to stand-up. It just kind of happened.

“I moved to New York to hang out with friends, and I thought I was was going to pursue acting, which I did,” Lynch says.

When she tired of waiting for someone to want her, she decided to switch directions.

“And I realized comedians can kind of get up whenever they like - because there are things like open mic nights.”

Her proactive attitude - and the extra sleep - seem to have paid off. In addition to being seen in the semi-finals of two seasons of Last Comic Standing, Lynch appeared on Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend,” VH1’s “Winningest Winners” and performed several times for the troops in Iraq and Kuwait. She’s also toured in Spain and Costa Rica and made her late night television debut on “The Late Show with David Letterman” in November 2012.

The Scene recently caught up with Lynch in advance of her show at the Parlor Live this month.

scene: Describe your comedy in two words: Carmen Lynch: I get dry and deadpan a lot. I guess it’s pretty true - but I think quirky is more it, too. scene: Did you grow up watching other comedians?

CL: Not really, because I didn’t know this was what I wanted to do until later. Growing up I loved funny stuff, like “I Love Lucy” or “The Carol Burnett Show.” My parents were pretty strict, so I didn’t grow up watching late night television. So in that regard, I’m still catching up.

But I’m more in to physical comedy - like Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett

scene: You started your career by getting in to comedy show’s like “Last Comic Standing.” Why did you decide to go that route?

CL: I guess I thought of it as ‘Well, I could be temping or doing this.’ And standing in a line sounded better than faxing stuff. Sometimes these shows give you a good opportunity to be seen - and a good place to showcase material in front of a packed house. scene: What’s your favorite part about doing stand-up?

CL: The fact that I get to do everything is really attractive to me. With stand-up, you are the writer, actor, performer and director on stage. It’s cool to have that power - you get to work on all parts of it. And creating that new joke is so fun. That’s exciting because it never gets old.

scene: You did Letterman in November 2012. How was that?

CL: He is my favorite late night show guy, so it was pretty great. At first it’s a little surreal, and it all happens pretty fast. scene: How did you pick the jokes you performed on that

show?

CL: It’s kind of a mutual thing. You start with 8 or 9 [minutes] and you slowly tailor your set. They [give] input in as well, and it depends on [several] things - like the fact it’s on network television. I was actually happy with the ones selected; as long as they showcase the kind of humor I have, it’s cool.

scene: You are also fluent in Spanish, and recently started doing shows in Spain. Do your jokes translate well?

CL: I have to change some of the words. Some things just don’t work in other countries. We’ve had [stand-up] in America for so many years, and it’s still pretty new over there. So they don’t get some things that are dark or sarcastic. But it’s kind of fun to do a long set in a different country that you’ve never done before. scene: Have you been to this area before?

CL: I lived in Bremerton when I was two years old. My dad was in the military so we lived all over - and then when I was three we moved to Spain. So I kind of feel like I’ll be seeing it for the first time. scene: What can people expect from your act in April?

CL: A few strange points of view. Hopefully a good time. I hope people kind of keep up with my style. To have a good time and be open minded. I just hope it’s fun - I don’t know what to say.

New music walk in April to bring the blues to North Bend

BY SETH TRUSCOTT North Bend will celebrate the blues April 20 as 12 venues in the downtown area play host to an evening celebrating the distinctive musical style.

The North Bend Blues Walk spans four blocks in old-town North Bend, including The Pour House Bar & Grill, Pioneer Coffee, Snoqualmie Valley Moose Lodge, Emerald City Smoothie, North Bend Theatre, Twede’s Cafe, Euro Cafe Lounge, George’s Bakery, Valley Center Stage, Boxley’s, Chaplin’s Chevrolet, and Scott’s Dairy

Appearing are Northwest blues artists including the T-Town Aces, Blues Redemption, Bryant Urban, Nick Vigarino, Rod Cook, Eric Madis, The Wired Band, Brian Lee Trio, Kim Field, Paul Green, Brian Butler, the Chris Stevens Band, Dan O’Bryant, John Stephan Band, James King & the Southsiders, Little Bill and the Blue Notes, and others.

All venues are family-friendly and welcome all ages, except the Pour House, which is a 21-and-older venue.

This event is sponsored by the Boxley Music Fund, a

member-run non-profit organization dedicated to supporting live music performance and education. North Bend is becoming a destination featuring live music seven nights a week at Boxleys, named one of the best jazz rooms in the world by Downbeat Magazine.

One ticket allows visitors to see music at all the venues. Plan on walking from venue to venue and checking out all the bands. Adult tickets are $18 in advance, $20 at the door; Children 14 and younger are $8 in advance, $10 at the door.
