Auburn Good Ol’ Days
GRAND MARSHAL Auburn All Stars Little League Champions
Vickie Vallier has served her country as a “Rosie the Riveter” and is now serving as our 21st Auburn Good Ol’ Days Pioneer Queen. When she was 19 she helped build combat aircraft at Boeing during World War II. Vickie has always worked hard and had a positive joy about her as a daycare provider, waitress, car hop and secretary. She also worked at a plastics factory, picked green beans in the valley and volunteered at schools, hospitals and church. A widow at 39, Vickie remarried later and was married for 37 years. She is a compassionate woman who volunteers and offers a helping hand for those in need. Our queen supports many causes and is a friend to many in Auburn. Vickie continues her work of almost 50 years in our community. She continues to drive friends and seniors around to appointments as well as participating in Bible studies and joining her “Golden Girls” for potlucks, parties and morning swims at the YMCA.
Representing Auburn, Washington and the Northwest Regional division, the team went 3-2 during the 10-day tournament, reaching the final four of the U.S. side of the competition. Please help us honor Hudson Byorick, Dylan Davis, Dillon O’Grady, Isaiah Hatch, Ryan Lacey, Casey Manning, Chandler Michalek, Ikaika Nahaku, Dillon Row, Tyler Tan and Robbie Wilson along with manager, Kai Nahaku and assistant coach, Dale Wilson for their appearance in the Little League World Series and for letting the world know that talent lives, learns, plays and grows in Auburn!
PIONEER SPIRIT Frank Nelson
Born on December 30, 1937, Frank Nelson is the youngest Pioneer Spirit award recipient. At 74, he represents the hard working and hard playing spirit that built our town. Frank worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad for 14 years and then BNSF for the remainder of his career until he retired a few years ago. He may have towed your car during his 27 years of weekend tow truck driving at Fitz Auto Rebuild. He and his wife, Ruth, own Nelson’s Pilot Car Service and are the best in the business. Frank is a community protector of the neighborhood and “his” local park. Best known as representing Auburn on the racetrack nationally and internationally, he has a continuous racing career that spans 56 years (one of the longest in the nation). He still races and has no plan of quitting. He will be in the parade in his race car so look out Auburn Police Department! He has been a friend to all and helped many along the way. The most important race lies ahead as he is racing time now to beat bone cancer. His attitude is amazing and strong and he will only accept the checkered flag for this challenge!
Ahhh, Summer time and the livin’ is easy.
