The MultiCare Covington Medical Center is adding 24/7 emergency care to the umbrella of primary and specialty care we currently offer the community. This new facility will begin seeing patients on April 3, but you can be among the first to see your new Emergency Department (adjoining the MultiCare Covington Medical Center) and enjoy some free family-friendly fun!

The latest, life-saving technologies. Smarter, more efficient design. A soothing, comfortable environment. Our new Emergency Department offers South King County residents a whole new level of emergency care.

• Results Waiting An area for patients waiting for lab results, imaging, prescriptions or discharge.

• Consult Room Private setting where patients and families can meet with providers.

• Medication Room Dedicated Emergency Department pharmacist onsite during peak hours.

During off-peak hours, TelePharmacy allows ED staff to communicate with MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital pharmacist.

• Nurses Station With clear view of all treatment rooms and ability to monitor heart activity for each patient.

• Four Pediatric Treatment Rooms Specially designed and equipped for treating young patients, with privacy curtains and DVD/VCR players in each room.

• Imaging 24/7 onsite services, including CT and X-ray.

• 19 private treatment rooms Each room includes heart monitor. Patients are taken directly to treatment rooms where registration occurs.

• Full-service 24/7 onsite lab • Resuscitation Rooms For patients with life-threatening conditions such as heart attack or stroke. Extra large to accommodate medical personnel and equipment.

• Ambulance Bay Accommodates up to four ambulances. Separate entrance for faster, safer access and transfers to MulitCare hospitals or other medical facilities.

The MultiCare Covington Emergency Department adjoins the MultiCare Covington Medical Center.

Our new Emergency Department is a lean, ‘green’ facility.

The new MultiCare Covington Emergency Department was designed and built in accordance with Green and Energy Efficient Standards and with the goal of providing a healthy environment for our patients, their families, our providers and staff. The new building includes many environmentally friendly features.

• Locally sourced materials, such as Peter David glass features, flooring and paint, were used in construction, where possible.

• More than 50% of the construction debris was recycled.

• Only low-VOC carpets, paints, sealants and other materials were used in the building’s interiors in order to reduce air pollution.

• 100% outside air is circulated throughout the facility, yet another way it’s designed and built to enhance air quality.

• Low-impact techniques to manage storm-water run-off were incorporated into the landscape design. These included two rain gardens designed and built to manage run-off from hard surfaces such as sidewalks and parking areas.

• Native plantings create a soothing natural environment that requires minimal watering.

• Fritted (enameled) glass in windows reduces direct sunlight—and the need for air conditioning—while allowing natural light to fill the interior.

• Non-medical areas such as offices and support spaces feature motion-sensing light controls to reduce energy usage.

• All treatment rooms have individual zone controls to ensure efficient energy usage and patient comfort.

• High-performance plumbing features have been used throughout.
