Greetings, everyone!

Welcome to this performance of Alan Ayckbourn’s How The Other Half Loves. What a complete delight it was to bring this cast and team together back in May, in Gananoque, Ontario, and work with the folks at Thousand Islands Playhouse to bring you this crazy British comedy.

We have assembled a wonderful creative team and cast to bring this odd comedy to life. It’s a joy to bring it home to the Neptune audience with this cast of East Coasters on stage and off. I am happy to report the show was a smash hit in Ontario.

How The Other Half Loves was written in 1969 and hit London’s West End for the first time in 1970. It’s the play that cemented Ayckbourn’s reputation as a master of farce and comedy in the UK. (Side note: I was in the very theatre it premiered in - The Lyric on Shaftesbury Avenue - earlier this year watching the musical Hadestown.)

We plan to give you a silly, fun night at the theatre with extra-marital affairs, manners, farce, mishaps, and a whole bunch of mayhem!

There’s SO much more to see and enjoy in our 2025-26 Season. I would like to thank the entire TIP team for making this East Coast ‘come from away’ feel so welcome. See how I mentioned the show we are ending the season with there. Come From Away - the most requested show ever will be live on our Fountain Hall stage in a brand new production created right here by our team. There is so much theatre before that production! The Wizard of Oz, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Mad Madge (which I also get to direct) and two co-productions with local theatre companies Chase The Ace (produced by Ship’s Company Theatre, Parrsboro) and The Ghost of Violet Shaw (all the way from Dartmouth’s Eastern Front Theatre.)

So much happening.

I have been hard at work preparing the 2026-27 Season and I plan on unveiling it in January 2026.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S

Thank you for joining us for How the Other Half Loves! This show is part of our continuing partnership with the Thousand Islands Playhouse in Gananoque, Ontario, and we’re delighted to be hosting this production here on the Scotiabank Stage.

Creative partnerships with theatres across the country are how Neptune Theatre continues to grow its brand and reach across Canada, which further allows us to produce new and exciting shows right here in Halifax.

This chaotic, laugh-out-loud funny, farce is a fantastically light-hearted theatrical event that is a perfect distraction during these dreary Fall days. There is so much more theatre to come in our 2025-26 season, so as we look ahead to the Holidays, don’t forget that a Pick 3 or 5 Package makes a wonderful gift!
