Throughout these national crises in 2023, we, in the Opposition, carried on with the fight, alongside you, the people. We visited and listened to citizens in several communities across the country. We worked to keep you, the citizens, informed. We fought in the courts to defend our Constitution and the rights and freedoms of citizens. We campaigned in the Parliament to shape the national agenda and to keep the government in check. We demonstrated on the streets for electoral reform, including a new voters list and biometrics. We lobbied international stakeholders.

And we presented our ideas for a better Guyana.

We, in the Opposition, believe that Guyana can have one of the world‟s highest standards of living. We believe that Guyana can be one of the world‟s happiest societies. We believe that Guyana can achieve the goal of zero poverty and zero misery. We believe that Guyana can be a model of democracy and good governance. However, Guyana could only achieve the ideals, if there is a caring and competent administration. We intend to be that administration. The poor performance of the government dictates that there must be a change of government. That change is near.

Aspects of the Coalition's vision on local government In preparation for returning to office in 2025, the APNUAFC commits to a comprehensive and proactive approach to foster sustainable communities and harmonious coexistence. The strategy encompasses the 70 Neighborhood Democratic Councils and 10 Municipalities, including the Capital City Georgetown. The coalition plans to initiate robust community engagement programs, involving residents in decision-making processes through fora and town hall meetings. Prioritizing Urban Renewal and Enhancement Plans for towns, the focus extends to empowering local leaders and residents, improving critical infrastructure, and promoting economic activities.

As was the case between 2015 and 2019, we will continue partnerships with private enterprises, NGOs, and international organizations and seek to leverage resources for infrastructure development. The coalition emphasizes an organized approach to maintenance and repair public assets and aims to stimulate local economic activities, support small businesses, and attract investments in alignment with local economic priorities. Initiatives include sustainable agricultural practices, environmental policies, waste management programs, and renewable energy projects. Educational and healthcare facility improvements, technological solutions for service delivery, and transparent budgeting practices will also be prioritized.

The coalition advocates for citizen oversight through watchdog groups, community audits, and embraces digital platforms for engagement. Disaster preparedness and response plans tailored to regional factors round out the strategy, ensuring a coordinated approach with relevant agencies and stakeholders.

The Local Government Commission in its current construct and composition is a national embarrassment to our country and without a doubt the Local Government Commission Act of 2013 needs to be amended earliest.
