WELCOME LETTER
WELCOME TO PACK EXPO INTERNATIONAL 2026 Have a plan. Leave room to be surprised.
W
elcome back to Chicago and PACK EXPO International. Every two years, this show offers us a chance to take stock of where packaging and processing technology is headed, and to see that future running right in front of us. This year, over 2,600 exhibitors will fill 1.3 million net square feet at McCormick Place with solutions spanning more than 40 industries. Those numbers tell you something about the scale of PACK EXPO International, but they don’t really capture what makes the show valuable. For me, it’s the chance to see machinery running, handle a new material or package, ask a supplier the question you couldn’t answer from a spec sheet, and then stumble onto an idea from another industry that sends you in a completely different direction. So, my advice for PACK EXPO International 2026 is simple: come with a plan, but don’t make it airtight. We put this Showcase together to help with the planning part. If you want the condensed version, start with our Quick Facts section on page 4 for the essential show information and highlights. Then turn to the Show Preview on page 11 for a much deeper look at the pavilions, education, networking, new programs, and resources available throughout the week. Scan the QR code on page 12 for quick access to the online exhibitor list. PMMI Media Group’s new PACK EXPO Discovery Tours give you an expert-led look at specific technologies and applications, with routes covering everything from robotics and digital transformation to labeling, flexible packaging, processing, and end-of-line systems. If you work for a small or medium-sized operation, the new SMB FastTrack program can help point you toward suppliers and education geared specifically to the issues growing companies face. More than 150 free sessions will take place right on the show floor, including show staples like Innovation Stages and Industry Speaks. Sustainability Central, presented by Packaging World and sponsored by EFP, LLC, will dig into issues such as circularity, design for recyclability, EPR, and post-consumer recycled content. At the Reusable Packaging Learning Center, sponsored by the Reusable Packaging Association, you can explore how reusable systems can reduce operating costs, improve material handling, and strengthen supply chain performance, with sessions covering topics such as AI and data, public policy, and retail automation. Flip to page 8 for updated session listings for every show-floor education stage. Use My Show Planner to build a personalized list of must-see exhibitors and sessions, schedule meetings in advance, and organize your agenda before you arrive. You can keep that plan at your fingertips with the free PACK EXPO International Mobile App, sponsored by ProMach, which also lets you search exhibitors, products, and education and use turn-by-turn navigation to get where you’re going. Don’t forget to try the new AI-powered PACK EXPO Solutions Finder to help translate a product, packaging need, or even an image into relevant solution categories. One last piece of advice: enjoy Chicago while you’re here. Much of our PMMI Media Group team calls Chicago home, and we’ve rounded up some of our favorite local spots in the Food & Entertainment Guide on page 24. You’ll find recommendations from our Chicago-based staff for places to eat, sports bars for catching a game, and some of our favorite ways to spend time in the city. Think comedy and jazz clubs, museums, historic movie theaters, and a few other places that make Chicago worth exploring after you leave McCormick Place. PACK EXPO International only comes around every two years. Make your list, ask plenty of questions, see the technologies you came to see, and stay curious enough to discover a few you didn’t. Dave and I look forward to seeing you in Chicago.

ACK EXPO International 2026 returns to McCormick Place in Chicago, Oct. 18–21, with 1.3 million net sq ft of packaging and processing innovation to explore. Across the show floor, 2,600 exhibitors will present solutions for more than 40 industries, giving you four days to see what is changing, compare approaches, and connect directly with the people behind the technology. The real advantage is seeing solutions in action. Watch machinery run, ask detailed questions, and evaluate competing systems side by side instead of relying on brochures, videos, or separate sales calls. Look for the gear icon in the online show directory to find exhibitors displaying machinery at their booths. You can also examine materials, containers, and package designs up close to judge sustainability, functionality, shelf impact, and compatibility with your existing lines. The show’s scale also lets you tackle connected priorities in one trip. Explore automation, workforce challenges, sustainability, logistics, digital transformation, processing, and packaging without treating each as a separate research project. Just as importantly, you can look beyond your own market and see how other industries are solving similar problems. Because PACK EXPO International takes place only once every two years, this is a rare opportunity to catch up quickly, strengthen supplier relationships, and move projects forward. Use this preview to identify the destinations, sessions, tools, and events that will make your time in Chicago count.
New to PACK EXPO International 2026 This year’s show introduces new programs designed to recognize emerging talent, make the floor more manageable, and help a wider range of companies find relevant solutions. Add these first-time features to your planning list.

CHICAGO
FOOD + ENTERTAINMENT GUIDE
Chicago has a diverse food scene that offers everything from Michelinstarred fine dining to iconic deep-dish pizza. In this Guide we provide staff recommendations from those who know Chicago, sports bars to catch a game, and iconic places to experience Alla Vita
the city firsthand.
DAVE NEWCORN, President, PMMI Media Group If you or your clients are adventurous eaters, then I can suggest two upscale places located downtown that will have your clients admiring your Chicago dining savvy. The first is a French Vietnamese place called Le Colonial, 57 E. Oak St., an easy walk from Michigan Avenue. It’s got a great ambience, and the food is varied, accessible, and delicious. The portions are perfectly sized, so you will walk away neither hungry nor painfully stuffed. Pro tip: If you arrive early, sneak upstairs to the second level for a drink at the bar. If your clients are meat-free, grab reservations at Planta Queen, 413 N. Clark St., a pan-Asian take on plant-based dishes. It tastes like a fusion of Thai and Japanese food if it were imbued with a PhD. The tastiness and complexity of the sauces are matched only by the varied textures and freshness of each dish. The atmosphere is equal to the upscale menu, making it perfect for entertaining. Even though I eat meat, Le Colonial I like going here whenever I can. 24
Tre Dita CLAUDIA SMITH, Events Operations Manager Tre Dita, The St. Regis Hotel, 401 E. Wacker Drive, is an authentic Tuscan experience. It’s like a love letter to Tuscany, drawing inspiration from the cuisine of Florence, Lucca or Livorno, and more.

CHICAGO FOOD + ENTERTAINMENT GUIDE
MATT REYNOLDS, Chief Editor, Packaging World When you’re in town for PACK EXPO and likely staying downtown in or near the loop, I’d give The Dearborn a try. Tucked into the heart of the Loop at 145 N. Dearborn St., it’s an easy walk from most downtown hotels and a quick ride to McCormick Place—ideal for a client dinner or unwinding after a day on the show floor. Chef Aaron Cuschieri’s Midwest-focused menu is approachable but polished, the dining room is spacious enough for conversation, and the bar program is solid. It hits that sweet spot of upscale-but-comfortable that works whether you’re entertaining a customer or grabbing dinner with colleagues. And while I’d never recommend something that pulls you away from the show floor, if you have a free morning that bookends the PACK EXPO show, check
The Dearborn the Dearborn out for the brunch. My wife and I go there for brunch before a matinee play or musical downtown. I get the Pork Carnitas Chilaquiles or the Fried Perch Benedict—both great.
JAKE BROCK, Account Executive Miller’s Pub, 34 S. Wabash Ave., is right in the Loop. It’s famous for baby back ribs, pot pie, and Wisconsin cheese curds. Classic Chicago vibes are set with dark wood and vintage paintings making it great for a casual dinner or late night bite. Pequod’s Pizza, 2207 N. Clybourn Ave., skips the tourist traps. This Lincoln Park spot has the best pizza in Chicago, the caramelized crust is unlike anything else in the city. Trivoli Tavern, 114 N. Green St., is a West Loop gem tucked down a historic cobblestone courtyard. It’s cool atmosphere and great food makes it perfect for a client dinner or fun night out.
Miller’s Pub ELIZABETH KACHORIS, Vice President, Digital
Alla Vita, 564 W. Randolph St., is my pick for a reliably good Italian dinner in Chicago. The menu is straightforward—pizza, pasta, shareable plates—but everything is done well. The rigatoni alla vodka is rich without being heavy, and the wood-fired bread with taleggio and honey is a good reason to show up hungry. The room has energy without being loud, which is harder to find than it should be!
Whispers on Oak Street Beach
Alla Vita
BRI GUNTZ, Assistant Editor Take a walk on the Lakefront Trail and stop at Whispers on Oak Street Beach, 1001 N. Lake Shore Drive, for a bite to eat. The beautiful view of the beach and Chicago skyline is the perfect way to relax after a day at PACK EXPO. From Neopolitan pizzas, street tacos, and paninis, the restaurant has something for everyone. Try the Melanzane alla Griglia, a savory panini with grilled eggplant and whipped burrata on fluffy rosemary foccacia for a vegetarian friendly dining experience! PACKAGING WORLD | SHOWCASE 2026

CASEY FLANAGAN, Associate Editor For an incredible dining experience close to McCormick Place, check out Moody Tongue, 2515 S. Wabash Ave., in South Loop. It’s the world’s only active Michelin-starred brewery, with a seasonal tasting menu and expertly paired beers. Also nearby in Bridgeport, Franco’s Ristorante, 300 W. Randolph St., is a cozy neighborhood Italian restaurant with excellent pasta. A quick ride north into the Loop, The Berghoff, 17 W. Adams St., is one of Chicago’s oldest restaurants. Family-owned and -operated since 1898, it serves classic German fare and great beer in a charming atmosphere. Finally, you can’t forget pizza while in Chicago. My favorite local chain is Gino’s East, with two city locations, including one in South Loop.
Moody Tongue KELLY GREEBY, Sr. Manager, Process Innovation & Special Projects
JOSEPH DERR, Digital Editor, PMMI ProSource
If you haven’t been to NoodleBird yet, 2957 W. Diversey Ave., yet fix that during this year’s PACK EXPO. It’s this fast-casual place on Diversey in Logan Square—no reservations, so just show up. Get the wok-fired NoodleBird noodles, get the dumplings, and DON’T leave without an egg tart. They’ve got a little pastry case tucked in the corner that’s doing way too much work for how little attention it gets. This isn’t a tourist-trap spot you stumble into, it’s a real neighborhood place, and that’s exactly why it’s good.
After a day of booth hunting, it’s time to head over to River North for a proper Mexican meal at Xoco Chicago, 65 W. Illinois St., good for small groups. Chef Rick Bayless’s casual counterpart to his flagship Frontera Grill next door, Xoco (SHO-co, “little sister” in Aztec) focuses on wood-oven street food without any drop in quality. It’s a cozy, friendly space, so order Mexican beer in a frosted glass, or a killer margarita, and watch the chefs work their magic up close. You’re here for the tortas. Try the Ahogada (pork carnitas, spicy broth), the Pepito (pork loin, bacon, morita), or the Milanesa (crispy chicken, tomatillo-avocado salsa). Save room for the churros.

Ed Debevic’s 26
One of my favorite places in the city is Ed Debevic’s, 159 E. Ohio St. The food is good/standard diner food…but the atmosphere is unique and so much fun. If you are easily offended or don’t speak fluent sarcasm, maybe skip this place… but if you are open to insults and a fun time, it is SO MUCH FUN!

JANET FABIANO, Financial Services Manager One of my favorite Italian Restaurants is Prosecco, 710 N. Wells St., in River north. From the moment you walk in, it feels as though you stepped into a charming restaurant in Venice. The inviting atmosphere, combined with the delicious food will not disappoint. Another favorite is Topo Gigio Ristorante, 1516 N. Wells St., which has been a staple in Old Town for 35 years. Topo Gigio Ristorante has been recognized for its high-quality food and exceptional dining experience. Topo Gigio Ristorante continues to uphold its legacy, offering a range of traditional dishes that reflect the rich culinary heritage of Italy.
Prosecco
MADYSEN FAST, Client Success Manager I recommend Hopleaf Bar, 5148 N. Clark St., in Andersonville. It’s definitely a bit of a poke from McCormick, but totally worth it for any beer aficionados, as they have like 50 beers on tap and an entire Belgium-made beer list. I recommend the mussels—it’s a great portion, super delicious, and great to share.
Phodega JOAN JACINTOCUNANAN, Director, AdTech & Search
Hopleaf Bar
Phodega, 1924 W. Division St., brings a modern twist to Vietnamese comfort food, pairing rich, aromatic pho with a laid-back, counter-service vibe—perfect for a quick, flavorful meal. For quick bite, Prince Street Pizza, 939 W. Randolph St. 1W, serves a square Spicy Spring slice that gets the hype, but the Fancy Prince is the elegant alternative: a thin, crispy round slice topped with fresh mozzarella, basil, and a drizzle of olive oil. Levain Bakery, 840 W. Randolph St., needs no introduction—its massive, gooey chocolate chip walnut cookies are practically underbaked in the best way, crackly outside and molten inside.
STEPHANIE HAAG, Client Success Manager El Che, 845 W. Washington Blvd., brings authentic Argentine flavors to your table with expertly grilled meats and an impressive wine selection. The food is spectacular and a great place to impress clients. Ricobene, 252 W. 26th St., is a local institution known for its authentic Italian cooking and generous portions. For a casual meal try the Steak Sandwich. It’s huge, cheesy, and an amazing comfort meal. Casa Tulum, 1700 S. Michigan Ave., offers a fresh escape with contemporary Mexican cuisine crafted from time-honored recipes. Their colorful décor and innovative cocktails create an energetic environment ideal for celebrating deals or enjoying memorable meals with colleagues.

CAMERON FRANKO. Audience Development Manager Café Ba-Ba-Reeba!, located at 2024 N. Halsted St., is a Lincoln Park institution and one of Chicago’s original tapas spots. The menu is built for sharing. Order a spread of hot and cold small plates like patatas bravas, garlic shrimp, and bacon-wrapped dates, then work through their paella. The sangria is a standout, and the lively dining room makes it a great group outing after a long day on the show floor. It’s a bit of a trek Café Ba-Ba-Reeba! north from McCormick Place, but worth the trip for a festive, flavorful night out. Reservations recommended.
CLAUDIA SCHMIDT, Marketing and Data Coordinator My go-to favorite restaurants in Chicago are known for having deliciously fresh ingredients and great ambience. One of my favorites is Beatrix, 519 N. Clark St. This one is a chain and has a few locations around Chicago and in the Chicago suburbs. It doubles as a restaurant and a coffee shop. There are a variety of things on the menu for all different taste pallets and all of it tastes good. I highly recommend their Caesar salad. For more upscale dining, Bavette’s Bar & Boeuf, 218 W. Kinzie St., is a musthave experience. The restaurant serves incredible steak and French cuisine. Walking in, the style of the restaurant reminds me of the roaring 20s. This one is a little more pricey and I would recommend making a reservation as it can Beatrix get packed.
TRACEY LABOVITZ, Editorial Operations Coordinator Chicago is known for its fare, including plenty of vegan finds. Got a taste for Chinese? Discover Mongolian soy beef, plant-based shrimp, deep-fried pumpkin sticks, and more at Veggie House, 2109 S. China Place, in iconic Chinatown. Dining with vegans and meat-eaters? La Cantina Grill, 1911 S. Runaway Cow Michigan Ave., is a family-owned Mexican restaurant with a separate vegan menu featuring Upton’s seitan chorizo and ground beef, Good Planet vegan cheese, and Tofutti vegan sour cream. Got a sweet tooth? Check out Runaway Cow, 608 W. 31st St., a vegan ice cream shop with treats ranging from cones and shakes to parfaits and sundaes, including the Elvis and Peanut Eminem.

VDG (Van Der Graaf) Shelby Township, MI Phone: (888) 326-1476 Email: info@vandergraaf.com www.vandergraaf.com As the leader in the design and manufacturing of drum motors for belt conveyors, VDG has provided reliable conveyor drive solutions to the material handling and food processing industries since 1985. With manufacturing facilities in the USA and Canada, VDG combines cutting-edge production technology, automation, continuous research and development, and precision manufacturing to ensure exceptional product quality, short lead times, and responsive after-sales service. VDG adheres to a simple principle: provide safe, reliable, and efficient conveyor belt drive solutions through innovation. The VDG Drum Motor is a one-component conveyor drive with all drive components, including the new premium-efficiency (IE4) electric motor, gear reducer, and bearings, enclosed within the drive drum. This compact, self-contained design improves mechanical and electrical efficiency, optimizes space, and enhances operator safety. Designed for 80,000 hours of continuous operation before maintenance, VDG Drum Motors reduce maintenance and operating costs while increasing productivity. VDG Drum Motors are available in a range of diameters, belt speeds, horsepower ratings, and industry-specific options to meet the requirements of various belt conveyor applications. The Pressure Equalization System (PES), developed by VDG and incorporated into all VDG Drum Motors, contributes to long-term reliability. As operating temperatures change, the PES automatically equalizes internal and external pressure, reducing stress on the seals and helping prevent contaminants from entering the drum motor. The result is longer seal life and improved reliability in demanding environments. To increase lagging durability and service life, VDG developed and patented the IronGrip™ lagging system. IronGrip™ consists of symmetrically welded steel bars on the outside of the drum, with vulcanized rubber lagging inserts positioned between the bars. This unique design eliminates uneven belt wear, improves belt tracking, increases belt traction by 40%, and provides five times longer service life compared to standard lagging. For sanitary belt conveyor applications, VDG offers the SSV™ Series Drum Motor, an all-stainless-steel conveyor drive designed specifically for food processing and handling applications where hygiene is paramount. SSV™ Drum Motors feature an IP69K-rated sealing system and withstand up to 3,000 psi washdown pressure. For modular, wire mesh, and monolithic thermoplastic conveyor belts, SSV™ Drum Motors are available with the belt profile machined directly onto the drum, eliminating gaps, crevices, and the need for sprockets. SSV™ Drum Motors can also drive these types of conveyor belts using VDG’s new CleanFlow™ sprockets installed directly on the drum. The innovative flow-edge profile and open geometry of the CleanFlow™ sprockets allow debris and byproducts to be completely removed during high-pressure washdowns. SSV™ Series Drum Motors eliminate areas that can trap food byproducts and harbor bacteria, reducing washdown time and water usage by 50%. Belt profiles for the SSV™ Series are available for all major belt manufacturers. The IntelliDrive® Drum Motor features advanced synchronous permanent magnet motor technology, delivering 40% greater electrical efficiency, a wider range of belt speeds without loss of torque, and extended motor life compared to traditional external conveyor drives. The IntelliDrive® also enables onsite diagnostics, precise motor indexing and speed control, and seamless communication with other automated plant equipment for greater control and integration of conveyor systems.
