WELCOME LETTER

A Processor’s Guide to PACK EXPO INTERNATIONAL 2026

F

ood and beverage processors have plenty competing for their attention right now. Labor and workforce challenges remain persistent, food safety expectations continue to rise, and manufacturers are looking for smarter ways to improve throughput, control costs, use resources efficiently, and bring new products to market. PACK EXPO International 2026 offers a chance to see how suppliers are responding to those priorities firsthand. It’s a unique opportunity to see machines running, ask questions, Derrick Teal and compare solutions on the spot. Editor-in-Chief For processors, I’d start in the Food & Beverage ProFood World Processing Zone in the Lakeside Upper Hall. This year, it brings together the show’s widest variety of food and beverage processing equipment yet, with solutions for homogenizing, heat treating, forming and sizing, coating, and more. Just as importantly, it gives you the opportunity to think beyond individual pieces of equipment and explore how processing and packaging technologies can work together to improve efficiency, food safety, and total system integration. While you’re there, make time for the Food & Beverage Processing Innovation Stage at Booth LU-7764. Its free 30-minute sessions are built around issues processors deal with every day, including food safety, AI, robotic automation, sustainability, plant operations, protein production, ultra-high-temperature processing, water recovery, and more. Flip to page 6 to scan QR codes leading to up-to-date session listings for this stage and other education at the show. Another resource worth considering this year is the new PACK EXPO Discovery Tours, produced by PMMI Media Group. Industry experts lead these curated trips through the show floor, providing context along the way as you see equipment in action and meet suppliers. Several tour themes speak directly to food and beverage manufacturers, including Food Processing Equipment, Liquid Processing Solutions, Bottling Line Solutions, and Facility Upgrades and Expansion. These require separate registration and space is limited, so try to reserve your spot as soon as you can. If you’re part of a small or medium-sized operation, also take a look at the new SMB FastTrack program. The SMB Friendly designation in the online exhibitor listing or on signage at participating booths identifies suppliers offering financing, discounts, and services geared toward growing companies. Further, SMB-focused educational sessions cover topics including automation, AI, digital manufacturing, food safety, sustainability, and workforce issues. It’s a useful way to connect the show’s technology and expertise with the realities of scaling an operation. Before you arrive in Chicago, use My Show Planner to build a personalized collection of must-see exhibitors, sessions, and appointments, and even schedule meetings with exhibitors in advance. You can access your agenda on the free PACK EXPO International Mobile App, sponsored by ProMach, along with exhibitor and product searches, turnby-turn directions throughout McCormick Place, and more useful tools. There’s much more inside this Processing Showcase, including our condensed Quick Facts, which provides a fast, at-a-glance overview of key show details, and our full Show Preview, which takes a deeper dive into the Food & Beverage Processing Zone, educational stages, and other resources shaping this year’s event. Use them to find the technologies, education, and resources that line up with what your operation needs next. I look forward to seeing you in Chicago.

ACK EXPO International 2026 returns to McCormick Place in Chicago, Oct. 18–21, with 1.3 million net sq ft of packaging and processing innovation to explore. Across the show floor, 2,600 exhibitors will present solutions for more than 40 industries, giving you four days to see what is changing, compare approaches, and connect directly with the people behind the technology. The real advantage is seeing solutions in action. Watch machinery run, ask detailed questions, and evaluate competing systems side by side instead of relying on brochures, videos, or separate sales calls. Look for the gear icon in the online show directory to find exhibitors displaying machinery at their booths. You can also examine materials, containers, and package designs up close to judge sustainability, functionality, shelf impact, and compatibility with your existing lines. The show’s scale also lets you tackle connected priorities in one trip. Explore automation, workforce challenges, sustainability, logistics, digital transformation, processing, and packaging without treating each as a separate research project. Just as importantly, you can look beyond your own market and see how other industries are solving similar problems. Because PACK EXPO International takes place only once every two years, this is a rare opportunity to catch up quickly, strengthen supplier relationships, and move projects forward. Use this preview to identify the destinations, sessions, tools, and events that will make your time in Chicago count.

New to PACK EXPO International 2026 This year’s show introduces new programs designed to recognize emerging talent, make the floor more manageable, and help a wider range of companies find relevant solutions. Add these first-time features to your planning list. The inaugural CPG NexGen Awards, produced by PACK EXPO, recognize 10 professionals age 35 and younger who are shaping the

Nyle Dehydrators Brewer, Maine Phone: (800) 777-6953 Email: dehydrators@nyle.com www.nyledehydrators.com Nyle Dehydrators is a global leader in high-efficiency dehydration technology, built around heatpump systems that drive what the company calls “industrial electrification.” The closed-loop design recycles heat instead of venting it, which cuts energy use by 40 to 60% compared to traditional dryers. Lower drying temperatures, from 80°F to 160°F, also help keep the product’s color, flavor, and nutrition intact. The equipment lineup grows with the business: FD & FDG-Series batch dehydrators for premium quality, MDSeries modular units for added capacity, and continuous conveyors for highvolume runs. Nyle also runs a Drying Lab, where engineers analyze the drying curve on customer samples to fine-tune performance.

VDG (Van der Graaf) Shelby township, MI Phone: (888) 326-1476 Email: info@vandergraaf.com www.vandergraaf.com As the leader in the design and manufacturing of drum motors for belt conveyors, VDG has provided reliable belt drive solutions to the material handling and food processing industries since 1985. With manufacturing facilities in the USA and Canada, VDG combines cutting-edge production technology, automation, continuous research and development, and precision manufacturing to ensure exceptional product quality, short lead times, and responsive aftersales service. VDG adheres to a simple principle: provide safe, reliable, and efficient belt drive solutions through innovation. The VDG Drum Motor is a one-component conveyor drive with all drive components, including the new premium-efficiency (IE4) electric motor, gear reducer, and bearings, enclosed within the drive drum. This compact, self-contained design improves mechanical and electrical efficiency, optimizes space, and enhances operator safety. Designed for 80,000 hours of continuous operation before maintenance, VDG Drum Motors reduce maintenance and operating costs while increasing productivity. VDG Drum Motors are available in a range of diameters, belt speeds, horsepower ratings, and industry-specific options to meet the requirements of various belt conveyor applications. The Pressure Equalization System (PES), developed by VDG and incorporated into all VDG Drum Motors, contributes to long-term reliability. As operating temperatures change, the PES automatically equalizes internal and external pressure, reducing stress on the seals and helping prevent contaminants from entering the drum motor. The result is longer seal life and improved reliability in demanding environments. SSV™ Series Drum Motors feature an all-stainless-steel construction and are designed specifically for applications where hygiene is paramount. SSV™ Drum Motors feature an IP69K-rated sealing system and withstand up to 3,000 psi washdown pressure. SSV™ Drum Motors deliver exceptional cleanliness, reliability and durability in caustic and high-pressure washdown environments, providing the most hygienic drive solution for sanitary conveyor applications. For modular, wire mesh, and monolithic thermoplastic conveyor belts, SSV™ Drum Motors are available with the belt profile machined directly onto the drum, eliminating gaps, crevices, and the need for sprockets. SSV™ Drum Motors can also drive these types of conveyor belts using VDG’s new CleanFlow™ sprockets installed directly on the drum. The innovative flow-edge profile and open geometry of the CleanFlow™ sprockets allow debris and byproducts to be completely removed during high-pressure washdowns. SSV™ Series Drum Motors eliminate areas that can trap food byproducts and harbor bacteria, reducing washdown time and water usage by 50%. Belt profiles for the SSV™ Series are available for all major belt manufacturers.
