Paul E Football Club sign partnership agreement with Romanian outfit

An Abuja based Football Club Paul E Football Club at the weekend signed a partnership agreement with a Romanian based outfit Best Sports GM International.

The agreement which was endorsed by Cristian Hossu, the Chief Executive Officer of the organization and the President of Paul E Football Club Chikebebe Somtochukwu is aimed at properly positioning the Academy in empowering young players in the club in the round leather game.

According to the President of Paul E FC, Chikebebe Somtochukwu, the Romania outfit which is a FIFA Licensed agent with links with various clubs in Europe and beyond. “There outfit would assist our young players will add value to what we are doing in the Academy”

He said that the scout was in Nigeria recently where he was able to see the abundance of talents that are bound in the country, and believed that the scout will help in placing the players into various clubs.

Mr. Somtochukwu said his team organized a scouting program which involved include Jay 1 Academy, Camp Utd, Paul E Club , Gamji Sports, Future Guarantee and Hamada Academy. The program took place on 19 August.

Abuja International Marathon sign more elite runners, add 10km Fun Run

Determined to achieve its objective of becoming the first full marathon in Nigeria to have an elite field that will run a sub 2hrs: 10 mins, the Abuja International Marathon has signed more elite runners for its inaugural race slated for December 17, 2022.

In a statement signed by Race Director Olukayode Thomas, the Abuja International Marathon Managing Director Zsuzsanna Ogunmiloyo disclosed that the December 17 race will also include a 10 km fun race apart from the full marathon which will start at the City Gate and take runners through the most beautiful parts of Abuja and the 5km race for youths and children in their early teens.

According to Ogunmiloyo, the newly signed elite runners are Emmanuel Naibei with a personal best of 2:08:27, Josphat Kiprop Kiptis with a personal best of 2:13:47, and Benard Sang with a personal best of 2:10:59.

They also include two women Beatrice Cherop with a personal best of 2:31:07 and Esther Macharia with a personal best of 2:27:15

Earlier, Ogunmiloyo confirmed the signing of four gold labelled runners: two men and two women they are Andrew Kimtai, who boasts a personal best of 2:08 32. Gilbert Masai, with a personal best of 2:09:49, h two female runners, Caroline Jepchirchir with a personal best of 2:26 and Naomi Maiyo with a personal best of 2:30.

Ogunmiloyo who was in Birmingham, England for the 2022 Commonwealth to support the Team Nigeria contingent said discussions are ongoing with some Nigeria elite athletes who won medals and global acclaim at the Commonwealth Games to be part of the Abuja International Marathon.

‘’The weeks leading to the Abuja International Marathon will be a celebration of the best of Nigeria sports. Apart from the Marathon Expo which starts December 1 and ends December 16, we have so many other activities which include elite athletes from Nigeria and other parts of the world organizing clinics for pupils from schools in different parts of FCT.

We are going to celebrate the best of FCT and a lot of positives about Nigeria,’’

About 200 elite runners will participate in the Abuja International, 80 from different parts of the world and 120 from Nigeria,

Our aim is to see Nigerians excel in middle distance races, long distance, road races, marathons, and other aspects of athletics not only in Nigeria but worldwide. 2023 CHAN Qualifiers: Nigeria Match Officials Listed For Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso match

Apart from Nigeria’s Super Eagles team B taking part in the 2023 Championship of African Nations qualifiers, match officials from the country will also be in action.

According to the update from CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt indicated that Nigeria’s Joseph Ogabor will be the Centre Referee for the clash between Cote d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso.

Celestine Efosa Igudia will serve as Assistant Referee 1 and Hope Igho as an Assistant Referee 11 while Abdulsalam Kazim from Zamfara State will work as 4th official.

The match is slated for Stade De Stadium in Yamoussoukro on Sunday while the second leg will come up in Quadadougou the capital of Burkina Faso.

Bassey Helps Ajax Maintain Unbeaten Run After Win At Utrecht

Super Eagles left-back Calvin Bassey was in action for Ajax who defeated Utrecht 2-0 away in the Dutch Eredivisie yesterday.

The result means Ajax have so far won all their four league games of the season.

Bassey who joined Ajax from Scottish giants Rangers, featured for 90 minutes in the encounter.

First half goals from Steven Berghuis and Brian Brobbey secured the win for the Eredivisie champions.

Berghuis opened scoring in the 10th minute before Brobbey added the second goal in one minute of first half added time.

Ajax are top in the 18-team league table after four league games played, just two points above second placed Feyenoord.

It was not the best of debuts for Bassey as he was shown a straight red card in Ajax’s 5-3 loss to PSV in the Dutch Super Cup.

Super Falcons Goalkeeper Joins French St Etienne

French Feminine side St Etienne has announced the acquisition of Nigeria’s Super Falcons goalkeeper Yewande Balogun.

Born in Washington, D.C. Yewande trained at the University of Maryland and signed her professional contract with Ottawa (Canada) in 2009, then played for Washington Freedom (2010) then Chesapeake Charge (2011) before playing the next seven seasons with Youngbloods FC where they were crowned Champion of the Amateur League in 2017.

She wore the jersey of the American national teams very early on representing them from the U14 to U20 category before switching allegiance to Nigeria.

“This Saturday, Yewande Balogun signed up for AS Saint-Étienne. The Nigerian international joins the SaintEtienne Division 2 squad and offers Laurent Mortel a second profile for the position of goalkeeper,” the club said.

“I am very happy to sign here. Saint-Étienne has a rich history and becoming a member of this great is cleally incredible. It is also a major step in my career, as I dream of playing in France since I was little. Today, a different experience and a new challenge are in front of me. I am looking forward to training, playing and having an impact on the results of the team,” Yewande said.

The lanky goalkeeper made her Super Falcons debut in the year 2021.

2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifier: Côte d’Ivoire Beat D’Tigers

The Nigeria’s D’Tigers started their campaign in the fourth window of the 2023 FIBA African Word Cup qualifier on a losing note on Friday.

They started their campaign in the qualifier against the host Ivory Coast and it ended in defeat for the Nigeria side.

Despite the dominance of the host, the first quarter ended in 1414 but the Ivorians began to show their superiority in the second quarter and by halftime they are leading by 42-36.

D’Tigers tried to recover in the third quarter but the Ivorians still claimed a 60-52 win before securing the game in the last quarter 78-66 points.

Josh Okogie recorded the highest points for Nigeria 23 points and 10 rebounds while Chimezie Metu has 20 points and 11 rebounds.

D’Tigers will play Guinea on Saturday in their second group match.
