Words from the Chairman - Carl Heslop

What a weekend of nail-biting action with the patriots and some of the most exciting entertainment we have seen in the city. The games last weekend were massive for the club where we needed to keep daylight between the teams below us and also stop a run of losses which we did with some great performances against teams who were desperate to take two points off us.

Newcastle came and played unbelievably physical on Sunday to try and unsettle us and the way we dealt with it was really professional. I saw first-hand the treatment being administered to the players after the game and they really fought for that performance. In the past I feel that the team would have been littered with technicals and maybe wouldn’t have got this over the line due to it being so tight but more professionalism under pressure makes a big difference.

A big positive from the games where we looked better as a combined unit and played as a team, spreading points across the roster and being led by the senior pros in Ty, Deuce and Elvisi. Building that chemistry is so important and we made some difficult decisions earlier in the week to put the team first. Ty is now showing his quality and with two MVP performances he is showing the way and the levels we want from this team.

With the release of Jawaun Daniels, we have moved quickly with the player deadline looming to bring in Ralph Bissainthe who will bring an offensive threat and strengthen our depth as we close out the season. With a window of nongames over the next two weeks it’s a perfect time to integrate him whilst preparing for London on the 12th of March

Although releasing Jawaun was a club decision, the release of Markedric Bell was unexpected and something we really didn’t want to have to do. However, following calls with his family direct it was evident he would be best placed to return home and we felt it was important to put his welfare first. This is a family club and bell has become a key part in that family since sept and we just want the very best for him in this difficult time. Personally, the release of Bell is difficult as I have seen the strong bond he has formed with the fans, the community, my family in particular and I know there will be many a tear on his farewell game today.
