El municipio turístico de Sosúa se encuentra a 25 km al este de la ciudad de San Felipe de Puerto Plata, municipio cabecera de la Provincia de Puerto Plata, y tan sólo 15 km del aeropuerto internacional general Gregorio Luperón. Sosúa cuenta con atractivos o características únicas que la distingue de los demás destinos turísticos del país y es la historia del asentamiento judío en esta zona. La fundación de Sosúa se reconoce oficialmente con la llegada de 500 colonos judíos que fueron acogidos por el gobierno del dictador Rafael Leónidas Trujillo, en el año 1938, siendo los primeros que dejaron sus raíces en un pueblo que luego se convertiría en un destino turístico multicultural. Cuando hablamos de gastronomía, Sosúa es una pieza principal por ser los creadores de los famosos “PROUCTOS SOSÚA”, que más adelante se convirtió en la capitán de los quesos y salames de la Republica Dominicana. Gracias a esos inicios, hoy es uno de los

más importantes motores económicos en la ciudad. Al llegar a esta zona e intentar con otro tipo de negocios que les fuera rentable para subsistir, el entonces presidente Rafael Leónidas Trujillo les donó una gran cantidad de vacas con las cuales ellos comenzaron la ganadería. Posteriormente, la fábrica de lácteos el se convirtió en un valor agregado para la zona y un verdadero referente para el municipio y el país, siendo los primeros en la fabricación y distribución de la mantequilla y otros productos lácteos en República Dominicana con su marca ‘’Productos Sosúa”.
Existen algunos personajes en Sosúa que han hecho de su arte culinario un precedente, como es el caso de Ricardo Marte, creador del famoso “pan judío”, estos que adornan cada “mesa sosuense” cada mañana. También, las carnitas fritas de Doña Clotilde, el guarapo extraído de caña fresca de Montellano, entre otros, que convirtieron su producto en parte distintiva de Sosúa. A través de los años los platos que se servían en cualquier comedor popular han evolucionado, hasta al punto de ser servidos en los más lujosos restaurantes de la zona, donde en la actualidad se pueden encontrar variantes de casi todas partes del mundo. Es por ello, que en los restaurantes donde hay especialidades tan variadas se pueden complacer paladares exigentes, incluso, los más recónditos antojos de los clientes así como el más severo comensal, aquí se mezclan sabores y colores que produce nuestra tierra para crear una oferta gastronómica única para cada gusto.

Hacia un turismo con conciencia: “Modelo gestión de playas”
El municipio de Sosúa, con múltiples atractivos para ofrecer a sus visitantes, actualmente se encuentra en un oportuno proceso de reformación, el cual implica la concientización de los actores de la cadena de valor turística. Así lo ha informado Rodney R. Brito, director de turismo del municipio de Sosúa. Como buenas noticias ha dado a conocer que el plan integral de organización y capacitación de los prestadores de servicios de Playa Alicia, ha dado buenos resultados. Pues esta iniciativa busca crear mayor conciencia y responsabilidad sobre lo que implica ser un abanderado de la actividad turística, dotándolos de las herramientas necesarias para ofrecer un servicio amigable y de referencia positiva para la zona. En adición a esto, también dijo que muy próximamente se estará iniciando la construcción de una torre de vigilancia y salvavidas en este balneario. Además,
se construirá un área de recreación de trabajadores de la playa; se instalarán señalizaciones en el área y desde ya han sido provistos de carnets, uniformes y capacitaciones a los prestadores de servicio. Este es un plan de trabajo que se ha llevado acabo en coordinación con el Alcalde del municipio de Sosúa Wilfredo Olivences, en conjunto con Politur.

HOTEL PIERGIOGIO PALACE Hotel Piergiogio Palace; parte de la historia del municipio turístico de Sosúa. Piergiorgio Palace Hotel fue inaugurado en 1992, su fundador, el Sr. Piergiorgio Tirabasso de origen italiano, también propietario del restaurante La Puntilla de Piergiorgio, el cual en la época de los 80s-90s gozó de gran popularidad. La arquitectura del hotel es de estilo victoriano clásico, estas características se mantienen hasta la actualidad y es un punto de atracción para los turistas extranjeros, ya que les remonta a su infancia. Ubicado en la comunidad costera de Sosua, provincia Puerto Plata, República Dominicana.
