Difference Between a Plumber and a Heating Engineer On the surface, plumbers and engineers appear quite similar but there are some key differences. A plumber works on water appliances such as taps, sinks, and toilets whereas a heating engineer operates with your heating systems such as your boiler, radiators, thermostat, or hot water cylinder. Plumbers can work with radiators and pipeworks but they can’t work on the boiler itself. Plumbers do not carry any Gas Safe qualifications, unlike heating engineers.
