There’s something about Door County at Christmas. The roads get a little quieter, the bay starts to freeze, the familiar summer crowds head home, and everything slows down just enough to remind us why we love this place so much. For 20 years, we’ve had the incredible privilege of being part of the Door County community—and what an incredible 20 years it has been. From our first days on Plum Bottom Road to our four galleries today, we’ve watched families grow, welcomed generations of collectors back year after year, and met more wonderful people than we could ever count. Some of you have been stopping in to see us for nearly as long as we’ve been here. You’ve brought your kids, then your grandkids. You’ve found that one special piece you couldn’t leave Door County without, and you’ve come back to tell us where it ended up in your home. Those are the stories that mean the most to us. This holiday season, we invite you to slow down and enjoy a little of what makes Door County special. Throughout his life, Roger has enjoyed working with wood. Retirement in 2004 gave him the opportunity to pursue this interest, with a focus on woodcarving and woodturning. He has developed his skills through workshops with a number of professionals in both fields and has assembled an extensive collection of carving and turning tools. Most of his carvings are caricature Santas and ornaments although he has also carved animals, ale bowls and spoons. Today his woodturning has expanded beyond bowls to other turned forms, which are often embellished with color, texture, and carving. Jackie, Becker’s wife, began painting Roger’s carvings and soon became a carver herself after joining Roger in a carving class. Her skills rapidly developed with a good eye for form and shape. While she creates fewer carvings than Roger, the quality of her carvings matches his.

Ann Huhn-Anderson received her degree in Art and Interior Design from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Early on, she realized her passion spread beyond the office with a desire to create fiber art. Throughout her thirty-five-year design career, she continually carved out time to rejuvenate with needle and thread. Her years of design and creative sewing have culminated in rich, storied fiber art to celebrate the beauty of nature’s changing seasons along the shores and in the woods of northern Wisconsin and Minnesota. Her passion to add handwork to many of her pieces lies in dedication to descendants who created trousseaus and daily linens to enhance their interiors and lives. Her multiple styles include different methods of fabrication from hand sewing to machine work, yet they are always finished with intricate details which invite the viewer to peer close and enjoy the tiny aspects which bring each piece to life.

Jessica and Ian Rogel formed J+I Jewelry in 1999. For over 20 years, each piece has been handmade in their studio in the heart of Philadelphia. Self-taught in the art of jewelry fabrication, Ian’s fascination with metals was born from a schooling in geology and a desire to work with his hands. Rogel is inspired by the beauty, history, and mythology of precious metals. As he shapes these materials into jewelry, he combines them with other materials that have a story to tell: gemstones from the earth and pearls from the ocean. The studio is filled with the sound of hammers and sanders as each piece is skillfully crafted by the talented team of J+I Jewelers.
