14 - Build Your Own Rain Barrel Workshop Did you know that a large amount of pollution entering Pleasant Hill waterways is from stormwater runoff? You can help manage this water is by installing a rain barrel, which can be used to water plants, wash cars, and more! Learn how to make your own rain barrel and manage stormwater on your own property from this “make and take” workshop. All materials and tools will be provided. Be sure you can transport your 55-gallon barrel home. Common Questions: • Cost: $50.00 per registration (1 registration for 1 barrel).
• Can I make more than one barrel? Yes! However, you must register for each barrel you wish to take home. • What’s included: tools and materials to build one 55-gallon rain barrel per registration. • Can my kids participate? Yes! Kids should be accompanied by an adult. • Can someone else help me build my barrel? Yes! We encourage you to bring friends or family to help build your barrel. Just remember, you need to register for each barrel you want to take home. Registration fees pay for the cost of materials. Before signing up, be aware that the installation of a rain barrel requires for the cutting of a house’s downspout to divert water flow to the barrel. 19 - Earth Day Trash Bash The Earth Day Trash Bash is a collaborative effort between the Des Moines Parks & Recreation and several surrounding communities. Celebrate Bike Month with the Pleasant Hill Public Library and Parks and Recreation. Children between the ages of 2-6 are invited to experience bicycle safety education. EVENTS CONT. 27 - Family Fun Fest Pleasant Hill Parade and Family Fun Fest is an event created especially for family fun in Pleasant Hill. The Pleasant Hill Lion’s Club organizes the parade which has on average 80 participants. The parade will begin at 10 AM at Doanes Park ending near City Hall. After the parade we will encourage everyone to visit with our local officers. Location TBD. In the evening we will be hosting inflatables, games, riding animals and face painting. At dusk we will be showing a movie in the park. Attendees can bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnic baskets while they enjoy the movie. Stay after the movie for a fun fireworks display.
